Fox Fordyce disease: a side effect of laser therapy.

Fox-Fordyce disease (FFD) is an uncommon apocrine disorder. We reported a 26-year-old woman with bilateral axillary pruritic papular lesions following 2 sessions of treatment with Diode (800 nm) laser for axillary hair removal. No lesions were developed in the other treated areas. Topical 0.1% tacrolimus gel was used for her treatment.

Cutaneous and histopathological features of coronavirus disease 2019 in pediatrics: A review article.

Prevalence of dermatological manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is estimated between 0.25% and 3% in children and adolescents. In this review article, we decided to describe the cutaneous and histopathological manifestations of COVID-19 infection in pediatrics. We searched published articles in PubMed database for key words of "children" or "pediatric" and "cutaneous" or "dermatology" or "skin" and "COVID-19" or "SARS-CoV-2" or "Coronavirus disease 2019" in abstract or title from December of 2019 until September 2020. Finally, 38 articles were selected. The majority of patie

Occupational skin disease in mining: an Australian case series.

The mining industry has one of the highest rates of occupational disease across all industries. However, occupational skin disease (OSD) is not commonly reported in this industry, although has been estimated to affect up to 51 people per 100,000 workers, with contact dermatitis accounting for the majority of cases. It often has a poor prognosis and leads to days lost from work. There have been relatively few reports regarding the specific forms of OSD encountered by miners worldwide. We report our experience of miners attending our Occupational Dermatology Clinic and our investigations at two

BACKGROUND: Skin disorders are very common in children. Wide spectrum of skin disorders is seen among children. The spectrum of skin disorders seen in children vary from region to region. AIM OF THE WORK: The study is aimed to determine the pattern of skin disorders among children in Pediatric dermatology clinic of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, Nigeria.   Methods: It was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Subjects were consecutively recruited. Using a semi-structured questionnaire, demographic history of the subjects and history of skin disorders were obtained from all the sub

Isolated hypohidrosis: pathogenesis and treatment.

BACKGROUND: Hypohidrosis can result in heat injury, a potentially fatal condition. The majority of hypohidrosis cases have no associated abnormalities or secondary causes, and are termed "isolated hypohidrosis". These are clinically divided into miliaria profunda (MP), acquired idiopathic generalized anhidrosis (AIGA) and idiopathic partial hypohidrosis (IPH). The pathogenesis of isolated hypohidrosis remains largely unknown and there is no established effective treatment. OBJECTIVES: To elucidate the pathogenesis of isolated hypohidrosis using in vivo high-definition optical coherence tomogr

Gradient-based 3D skin roughness rendering from an in-vivo skin image for dynamic haptic palpation.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Many studies have revealed the importance of palpation for dermatologists; however, palpation is not always possible due to the risk of secondary infections or the risk of damaging the affected area. Thus, haptic rendering for indirect palpation using in-vivo skin images, which will enable to examine a real three-dimensional (3D) skin sample by virtual touch without directly palpating the infected skin area, could be a useful technology in dermatology. METHODS: We propose a new method of accurate 3D skin surface reconstruction using simple gradients from a single skin imag

Common Neonatal Rashes.

Skin eruptions are commonly encountered in the neonatal and infant period and can be a source of concern for providers and parents alike. We present a brief, clinically focused discussion on topics commonly encountered by the pediatrician with a focus on pearls of knowledge to help distinguish diseases from one another and from more serious conditions. We review miliaria, transient neonatal pustular melanosis, neonatal cephalic pustulosis, erythema toxicum neonatorum, diaper dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and atopic dermatitis. Treatment strategies are also discussed. [Pediatr Ann. 2019;48

Integrated Transcriptomic and Proteomic Analysis of Human Eccrine Sweat Glands Identifies Missing and Novel Proteins.

The eccrine sweat gland is an exocrine gland that is involved in the secretion of sweat for control of temperature. Malfunction of the sweat glands can result in disorders such as miliaria, hyperhidrosis and bromhidrosis. Understanding the transcriptome and proteome of sweat glands is important for understanding their physiology and role in diseases. However, no systematic transcriptome or proteome analysis of sweat glands has yet been reported. Here, we isolated eccrine sweat glands from human skin by microdissection and performed RNA-seq and proteome analysis. In total, ∼138,000 transcripts

Why does sweat lead to the development of itch in atopic dermatitis?

Sweating plays an important role in maintaining temperature homeostasis in humans. However, under certain circumstances, sweat can cause itching. For example, when excessive sweat accumulates on the skin surface for a long period, miliaria can develop and cause itching. Subjects with dermatoses, such as atopic dermatitis (AD), suffer from itch when exposed to heat or psychological stresses, which are also known perspiration stimuli. Recently, some mechanisms of sweat-induced itch have been revealed. For instance, attenuated sweating ability is observed in subjects with AD, causing heat retenti

Miliaria crystallina secondary to herbal remedies-induced toxic epidermal necrolysis: A case report.

Miliaria crystallina is a skin disorder that often erupts in the process of febrile diseases or under hot and humid climatic conditions. Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare, acute, and life-threatening mucocutaneous disease with a mortality rate of 25-35%. There has been no inevitable connection between the two diseases among previously reported cases, but we observed a case of secondary miliaria crystallina a woman with herbal remedies-induced TEN during the therapeutic process.

Granulomatous Variant of Giant Centrifugal Miliaria Profunda in a Hypothyroid Infant: A Case Report.

The miliarias are a clinically heterogeneous group of diseases which occur when the free flow of eccrine sweat to the skin surface is impeded. Miliaria profunda is a variant with obstruction of the duct at or below the level of dermoepidermal junction. The giant centrifugal variant of miliaria profunda has been described in the past at the sites of occlusive tapes and in febrile patients. Thyroid hormone has a regulatory effect on the skin and its appendages and an association of hypothyroidism with this variant of miliaria profunda has not been described in the past. We report a case of giant

Atypical Presentation of Sweat Dermatitis with Review of Literature.

Sweat dermatitis is a peculiar kind of irritant inflammatory dermatoses occurring due to prolonged exposure of retained sweat over the skin. It is commonly seen in hot and dry climates like tropics during summer months due to thermal stress. Typically, parchment paper or cellophane paper like scaling is seen over occluded areas of back, shoulder, and other areas. Here we have reported a varied presentation of sweat dermatitis in the form of its coexistence with miliaria rubra (impending to thermal burn). Further we have also observed co existing pityriasis versicolor and sweat dermatitis where

Neutrophilic superficial eccrine ductitis: Proposal of a new disease concept.

A 3-year-old Japanese boy presented with a 3-month history of itchy erythematous papules on his trunk and forearms, the histologic findings of which were characterized by predominantly neutrophilic inflammation within and around the eccrine sweat ducts and obliteration and disruption of the superficial eccrine sweat ducts. Although the skin disorder had some clinical and histopathologic similarity to miliaria and neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis, it was ultimately conformed to be neither disorder. Based on this and a case report in the Japanese literature of a 1-year-old boy with erythematous
