Eleven women (group I) with axillary hyperhidrosis were treated ad modum Shelley & Hurley with local application of aluminium chloride hexahydrate 25% in absolute ethanol and plastic foil occlusion during two successive nights once a week. The patients were observed for 24 weeks. Sweat pores on the epidermal ridges are hypoplastic and reduced in number in three sisters affected with autosomal recessive hypohidrotic dysplasia. The heterozygote state is expressed by a reduced number of qualitatively normal sweat pores (14.07 +/- 8.59 as compared to 22.27 +/- 2.33 in controls). Clinical and genetic considerations suggest that this may be a distinct type that has to be differentiated from other autosomal recessive hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasias. Heterozygote manifestation may contribute to delineate this groups of disorders further.

The spinal sympathetic structures that are located in the intermediolateral areas extend from T1-L2 segments and are under the control of hypothalamic centers. In a series of 100 bilateral upper dorsal sympathectomies performed for palmar hyperhidrosis, gustatory sweating and other gustatory phenomena were reported by 68 of 93 patients (73%), followed up for an average of 1 1/2 years. These gustatory phenomena were quite different from physiologic gustatory sweating: a wide range of gustatory stimuli caused a variety of phenomena in varied locations. Seven members of one family had rare, inherited syndrome of follicular atrophoderma, basal cell carcinomas, and localized anhidrosis. Associated findings in some subjectes were generalized hypohidrosis and "eczema" involving the face shortly after birth. This syndrome shows dominant inheritance, possible x-linked. Follicular atrophoderma is an important skin manifestation, as it has been associated in all reported cases with other systemic or cutaneous abnormalities.

Skin manifestations of idiopathic hemochromatosis (IH) are presented in 100 cases with emphasis on the previously unrecognized high frequency of ichthyosis-like states and koilonychia. In 50 cases with treated and nontreated groups, histological siderosis and clinical skin pigmentation were found to decrease postphlebotomy whereas melanosis, histologically, did not. In three new cases of sweat gland carcinoma that we observed within recent years, the sites were the axilla, back, and arm. Axillary lymph node dissections were performed in two of the patients and the nodes were normal.
