The genetic disease cystic fibrosis (CF) results when mutations in the gene for the anion channel CFTR reduce CFTR's activity below a critical level. CFTR activity = N·PO·γ (number of channels x open probability x channel conductance). Small molecules are now available that partially restore CFTR function with dramatic improvements in health of CF subjects. Continued evaluation of these and other compounds in development will be aided by accurate assessments of CFTR function. However, measuring CFTR activity in vivo is challenging and estimates vary widely. The most accurate known measure of C

BACKGROUND: Male cases of accessory breast carcinoma and sweat gland carcinoma associated with extramammary Paget's disease of the axilla are uncommon. In clinical diagnosis and treatment, it is necessary to determine the disease carefully and make a reasonable treatment strategy according to the patient's situation.
CASE PRESENTATION: We described two male cases of the special tumor with an axillary mass as the first clinical symptom, one of which was diagnosed as accessory breast cancer and the other as sweat gland cancer associated with extramammary Paget's disease. We treated the two dise

Concurrent multiple primary extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is rare. Herein, we present two Chinese cases of concurrent primary EMPD involving both the genitalia and the axilla, and they also had a history of other malignancy. We also summarise the cases of multiple primary EMPD previously described in literature. Careful examination of all apocrine sweat gland-bearing sites and additional internal malignancies is recommended for patients with EMPD.

BACKGROUND: Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is an autonomic nervous system disorder causing an abnormal cardiovascular response to upright posture. It affects around 0.2% of the population, most commonly women aged 13 to 50 years. POTS can be debilitating; prolonged episodes of pre-syncope and fatigue can severely affect activities of daily living and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Medical treatment is limited and not supported by randomised controlled trial (RCT) evidence. Lifestyle interventions are first-line treatment, including increased fluid and salt intake, co

BACKGROUND: Cholinergic urticaria (CholU), a frequent form of chronic inducible urticaria, is characterized by itchy wheals and angioedema in response to sweating. As of now, the rate and pathophysiological relevance of impaired sweating in patients with CholU are ill-defined.
AIM: To assess in CholU patients the rate and extent of impaired sweating and its links to clinical and pathophysiological features of CholU.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We assessed sweating in patients with CholU (n = 13) subjected to pulse-controlled ergometry (PCE) provocation testing. Pre- and post-PCE biopsies of lesion

Chromhidrosis is a rare condition characterized by the secretion of colored sweat. We report a case of a preadolescent healthy girl presenting with acute, recurrent blue discoloration of her armpits. The blue discoloration can be wiped off but recurs. As providers, it is useful to be familiar with this diagnosis and course of disease.

Axillary bromhidrosis is a widespread social problem in our society. Various modalities have been developed for the destruction or removal of the apocrine sweat glands to eliminate underarm odor. However, conventional surgical treatments often result in a high complication rate and frequent recurrence. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of refined tumescent liposuction-curettage with pruning in small incisions as treatment for axillary bromhidrosis. Between July 2013 and April 2019, 110 patients (75 women and 35 men) with axillary bromhidrosis underwent refined tumescent liposuctio

BACKGROUND: Suction-curettage using an arthroscopic shaver is the most effective surgical treatment for bromhidrosis; however, information regarding the procedure is limited. This study investigated the factors that affect the efficacy of suction-curettage.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated data for 215 patients (430 axillae) with bromhidrosis treated with suction-curettage using an arthroscopic shaver between 2011 and 2019.
RESULTS: Excellent or good efficacy with improved malodor was achieved in 418 axillae (97.21%). Secondary suction-curettage was performed for 11 (2.56%)

The aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of treatment-combined electrocauterization after removal of apocrine sweat glands with ultrasound-guided (BOTOX) injection for adolescents with axillary bromhidrosis. From January 2015 to January 2018, 90 adolescents with axillary bromhidrosis were recruited and randomly divided into three groups (group A, B, and C). Patients in group A underwent electrocauterization after removal of apocrine sweat glands, patients in group B received ultrasound-guided BOTOX injection, and patients in group C had electrocauterization after the removal of apo

Endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma (EMPSGC) is a rare adnexal tumor with a predilection for the skin of the eyelid. It has also been reported in other areas of the face. Extra facial location has rarely been reported. They are twice as common in the females as compared to men and frequently affect the elderly between 50 and 80 years of age. It is a low-grade carcinoma with no reported cases of metastases, although a few cases with recurrences have been reported. Since it was first described by Flieder et al. in 1997, fewer than 60 cases have been reported in the literature. We des

OBJECTIVES: Dermatology Life Quality index (DLQI) is the most widely used health-related quality of life questionnaire in dermatology. Little is known about existing questionnaire or scoring modifications of the DLQI. We aimed to systematically review, identify, and categorize all modified questionnaire versions and scoring methods of the DLQI.
METHODS: We performed a systematic literature search in PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and PsychINFO. Methodologic quality and evidence of psychometric properties were assessed using the Consensus-Based Standards for the Selection of Health Measuremen

Hyperhidrosis (HH) is defined as perspiration beyond the level required to maintain temperature regulation. HH affects nearly 4.8% of the population in the United States. It can have a great impact on patient’s quality of life by disturbing daily activity, performance, confidence, social interactions, and mental health. In the majority of patients with HH (93%), the etiology of excess sweating is idiopathic, which classifies it as primary focal HH. Mild HH may be controlled with topical antiperspirants and lifestyle modifications. Based on the location of involvement, iontophoresis and b

BACKGROUND: The human sweat is a mixture of secretions from three types of glands: eccrine, apocrine, and sebaceous. Eccrine glands open directly on the skin surface and produce high amounts of water-based fluid in response to heat, emotion, and physical activity, whereas the other glands produce oily fluids and waxy sebum. While most body fluids have been shown to contain nucleic acids, both as ribonucleoprotein complexes and associated with extracellular vesicles (EVs), these have not been investigated in sweat. In this study we aimed to explore and characterize the nucleic acids associated
