Independent primary cutaneous and mammary apocrine carcinomas with neuroendocrine differentiation: Report of a case and literature review.

Cutaneous apocrine carcinomas share common features with their counterparts in the breast; hence, metastatic mammary carcinoma must be excluded before such lesions can be designated primary cutaneous neoplasms. Primary tumors from either source rarely exhibit neuroendocrine differentiation. We report a case of a 72-year-old female with a painless 1.2-cm scalp nodule. An incisional biopsy revealed dermal involvement by an invasive apocrine carcinoma juxtaposed to a benign apocrine cystic lesion. Immunohistochemically, the carcinoma expressed neuroendocrine proteins including synaptophysin, chro

Signet-ring cell/histiocytoid carcinoma of the axilla: a clinicopathological and genetic analysis of 11 cases, review of the literature, and comparison with potentially related tumours.

AIMS: The aim of this study was to determine the clinicopathological and genetic characteristics of axillary signet-ring cell/histiocytoid carcinoma (SRCHC) and the relationship between axillary SRCHC, eyelid SRCHC, and conventional apocrine carcinoma (AC). METHODS AND RESULTS: Eleven cases of axillary SRCHC, four cases of eyelid SRCHC, eight cases of axillary AC and five cases of invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) were retrieved. Additionally, 14 axillary and 43 eyelid SRCHC cases from the literature were reviewed. Male predominance was prominent for axillary SRCHC (24:1) and eyelid SRCHC (42:

Neurotoxins and Genital Rejuvenation: The Role of Botulinum Toxin A for Vulvovaginal and Scrotal Rejuvenation.

Neurotoxins are an integral component of facial rejuvenation. Botulinum toxin A can also be used for vulvovaginal and scrotal rejuvenation. Toxin injection for genital bromhidrosis and wrinkling of the labia majora and scrotum can provide lessening of the foul odor and probable elimination of the wrinkles, respectively.

Sweat-gland carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation (SCAND): a clinicopathologic study of 13 cases with genetic analysis.

Low-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma of the skin (LGNECS) was proposed in 2017 as a new primary cutaneous neoplasm with neuroendocrine differentiation; however, it is not yet well known due to its rarity. Herein, we perform a detailed clinicopathologic analysis of 13 cases as well as panel DNA sequencing in three cases. The study included 12 males and 1 female with a median age of 71 (43-85) years. All lesions occurred on the ventral trunk. The mean tumor size was 2.2 (0.8-11.0) cm. The histopathology resembled that of well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) in other organs, but intraep

Apocrine lesions of the breast.

Apocrine change is recognised in benign, atypical and malignant lesions of the breast. Apocrine metaplasia, a frequent finding in the breast of women over the age of 25 years, is most commonly seen in benign cysts with a simple or papillary configuration. Apocrine change is also recognised in other benign lesions including sclerosing adenosis, now known as apocrine adenosis. Apocrine atypia usually refers to cytological atypia in which there is at least threefold variation in nuclear size but architectural atypia may also occur. The distinction between atypical apocrine hyperplasia and non-hig

Porokeratotic eccrine ostial and dermal duct nevus associated with an 11 megabase 3p deletion.

Porokeratotic eccrine ostial and dermal duct nevus (PEODDN) is a rare eccrine hamartoma; the etiology is incompletely understood. A patient presented with congenital, widespread PEODDN. Clinical assessment, histopathologic, cytogenetic, and molecular genetic investigations on affected cells were pursued. Histopathology confirmed PEODDN, and chromosomal microarray on affected tissues identified a mosaic 3p26.3p25.3 deletion in affected tissues. This 11Mb deletion encompasses 47 OMIM genes. We propose that this and other chromosomal deletions may be implicated in some cases of PEODDN, suggesting

Paeoniflorin inhibits proliferation and promotes autophagy and apoptosis of sweat gland cells.

Axillary bromhidrosis is sweat excreted by apocrine glands in the armpits, mouth corners and other parts. The clinical manifestation includes excessive sweating and heavy odor, leading to the growth of bacteria and skin disease. The present study investigated the mechanism underlying the effect of paeoniflorin (PF) in the treatment of bromhidrosis. PF was injected into the feet of rats, and the foot skin was dissected for histological analysis. Primary human sweat gland cells (hSGCs) were isolated from patients with bromhidrosis. After 24 h treatment with PF or 3-methyladenine, the production

Treatment of Axillary Bromhidrosis with Topical 2% Glycopyrronium Bromide Cream: A Prospective, Non-randomized, Open-label Study.

BACKGROUND: Topical glycopyrrolate is a well-established therapeutic option for focal hyperhidrosis; however, there are no data on its efficacy in the treatment of bromhidrosis. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this open-label, non-randomized study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of a galenic formulation of 2% glycopyrronium bromide cream, in the treatment of bromhidrosis. METHODS: Nineteen patients with bromhidrosis were prescribed a 2% glycopyrronium bromide cream, to apply in both axillae, every night, for 12 weeks. Malodor was assessed on a four-point scale. 'Your mascara is running'.

Chromhidrosis is a rare disorder, which can have significant psychosocial consequences for patients, particularly when it affects the face, as it can be mistaken for scarring, dirt or erroneous make-up application. Chromhidrosis can be divided into apocrine, eccrine and pseudo subtypes. We present a case of apocrine chromhidrosis localized to the bilateral cheek area. Novel Presentation of Pediatric Complex Regional Pain Syndrome with Concurrent Chromhidrosis: A Case Report.

CASE: An 11-year-old female patient presented to our clinic with a low-grade lateral ankle sprain that was subsequently treated with a lace-up ankle brace. On the reintroduction of weight bearing, the patient developed recurrent ankle pain and symptoms consistent with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) Type 1. On physical examination, the patient was found to have a concurrent chromhidrosis in the injured area, which is a novel presentation of CRPS. CONCLUSION: Patients with CRPS found to have superficial skin discoloration should be evaluated further to investigate for chromhidrosis. Earl

Haematohidrosis in a 12-year-old boy: blood, sweat and tears.

A 12-year-old boy presented with a 1-year history of episodes of spontaneous bleeding from multiple sites lasting for a few minutes. His medical history was unremarkable and all the episodes of bleeding began after he was separated from his aunt to whom he was very much attached. She had moved out of their home following her marriage. All haematological investigations were normal. He was diagnosed with haematohidrosis secondary to adjustment disorder, and behavioural therapy was advised and propranolol prescribed. At present he is asymptomatic and on regular follow-up.Explanations of terms use

Infectious Pseudochromhidrosis: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Infectious pseudochromhidrosis is a rare dermatological disorder, characterized by a change in colour of the sweat from normal skin, caused by pigments from microorganisms. Such pigments are a result of evolutionary competition among microorganisms, which appears to be a decisive factor in their survival, patho-genicity, and virulence. Four bacteria are known to be involved in infectious pseudochromhidrosis: Bacillus spp. (blue colour), Corynebacterium spp. (brown/black colour), Serratia marcescens (red/pink colour), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (blue-green colour). Infectious pseudochromhidrosi

[Brown facial pseudochromhidrosis in a child: A bacterial disease?].

INTRODUCTION: Pseudochromhidrosis denotes the production of colourless sweat that acquires colour after coming into contact with exogenous factors such as dyes in clothing, chemicals or chromogenic microorganisms. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A 9-year-old girl presented with progressive brown pigmentation predominantly on the nose, forehead, perioral region and cheeks. It was easily removable by rubbing with a moist compress, leaving normal-coloured skin as well as brown pigment on the compress. The same pigmentation recurred within 2h. The patient was not using cosmetics. Bacteriological culture of

Apocrine Chromhidrosis.

Apocrine chromhidrosis is a rare diagnosis that occurs due to colored sweat being secreted from the apocrine glands, which are located in the axillae, anogenital skin, and areolae and over the skin of the trunk, face, and scalp. We present the case of a 65-year-old woman who presented with a sudden onset of pink sweating affecting mainly her axillae but also her pelvis, causing staining of clothing and bed sheets. There was nil to note on examination and histology with immunostaining demonstrated focally prominent yellow-brown lipofuscin granules in the cytoplasm of the apocrine secretory cell

Frequent FOXA1-Activating Mutations in Extramammary Paget's Disease.

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is a neoplastic skin disease of indeterminate origin with an unknown genetic cause. We performed a comprehensive genetic analysis or targeted gene sequencing in 48 patients with EMPD. We identified FOXA1 mutations, a GAS6-FOXA1 fusion gene, and somatic hotspot mutations in the FOXA1 promoter region in 11 of the 48 EMPD patients (11/48, 23%). Additional mutations were identified in PIK3CA (six patients) and in HIST1H2BB, HIST1H2BC, and SMARCB1 (one patient each), but none were found in other frequently mutated genes in cancer. A global gene expression analysi
