BACKGROUND: Up to now, surgical excision of apocrine glands still has been a method that yields high treatment results and low rate of odour recurrent for patients, but many people worry about some serious complications that have been observed postoperatively, such as hematoma and skin necrosis. These prolong wound healing, leading to unsightly scars in the axillary fossae.
AIM: We conducted this research to investigate the effects and complications of our surgical technique for axillary bromhidrosis.
METHODS: Forty-three patients with axillary bromhidrosis were treated. An elliptical incisi

BACKGROUND: The efficacy of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) therapy in axillary hyperhidrosis has been documented; however, there are a few studies reporting the efficacy of BTX-A in treating axillary bromhidrosis. The histological changes occurring in sweat glands after BTX-A treatment are also unknown.
OBJECTIVE: The authors report on the efficacy and safety of BTX-A in the treatment of axillary bromhidrosis and on the histological changes in sweat glands after BTX-A treatment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nineteen patients were included in this study. The patients were administered BTX-A injection in

It is common to treat bromhidrosis by surgery, but postoperative complications such as subcutaneous exudate and subcutaneous hematoma can occur and lead to delayed healing of the wound and eventually lead to the formation of unattractive scars. In this study, we evaluated our new surgical treatment for bromhidrosis, which we believe improves prognosis over conventional surgery. The new procedure was performed on 22 patients with bromhidrosis. Our procedure is as follows. One centimeter-long incisions are made along the skin and cleaning of the subcutaneous apocrine glands using a special serrat

The eccrine sweat gland is an exocrine gland that is involved in the secretion of sweat for control of temperature. Malfunction of the sweat glands can result in disorders such as miliaria, hyperhidrosis and bromhidrosis. Understanding the transcriptome and proteome of sweat glands is important for understanding their physiology and role in diseases. However, no systematic transcriptome or proteome analysis of sweat glands has yet been reported. Here, we isolated eccrine sweat glands from human skin by microdissection and performed RNA-seq and proteome analysis. In total, ∼138,000 transcripts

BACKGROUND: For adolescent bromhidrosis, the long-term safety and efficacy of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) treatment are not clear to date.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From June 2011 to July 2016, 62 adolescent patients with primary axillary bromhidrosis were recruited and 50 U of BTX-A was administered in each axilla. Repetitive injections were performed when the malodor returned.
RESULTS: The average follow-up was 2.64 years. There were no reported local or systemic adverse effects. After the first BTX-A injection, 61.3% of patients (38/62) maintained the duration of more than 4 weeks. Of thes

The suction-curettage technique has been widely applied in the treatment of axillary bromhidrosis. However, it can only moderately eradicate the malodor. From 2011 to 2013, we performed the suction-curettage procedure alone in 91 patients with primary axillary bromhidrosis (group A). From 2014 to 2016, we refined the suction-curettage technique by performing wide subdermal scissors undermining through a miniature incision in 80 patients (group B). Through a miniature incision at the inferior pole of the central axillary crease, the entire subcutaneous tissues containing apocrine glands were in

BACKGROUND: Surgical treatment of axillary bromhidrosis or hyperhidrosis involves the removal of apocrine glands. There are several methods to eliminate apocrine glands; however, many methods reported significant rates of skin necrosis. To avoid this problem while preserving comparable results, we used a modified method sparing several subcutaneous septa, which successfully avoided skin necrosis completely in our series of 19 consecutive cases.
METHODS: This is a prospective case series in a single center by a single surgeon. Unlike other series using suction-curettage shaver, we preserved so

BACKGROUND: The pinch and turn-over technique was developed to minimize the incision in the manual subdermal excision of apocrine glands in axillary osmidrosis for the best cure and fewest complications.
METHODS: Through a 2-cm-long incision, peripheral subdermal tissue was excised by the technique under direct vision using intravenous anesthesia and tumescent technique. Ninety-nine axillae in 50 patients including seven secondary cases were operated on from 2009 to 2018. Long-term follow-up (average 30.3 months) could be done on 40 patients with questionnaires consisting of four-point ordina

Axillary bromhidrosis has a strong negative effect on one's social life. A high success rate and few complications are criteria for a surgical treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate a new surgical treatment modality for bromhidrosis: subcutaneous scissor with micropore. Twenty patients with bromhidrosis were treated. Patients were placed in a supine position with their treated arms abducted to 110°. After injection of 60 mL of tumescent solution into each axilla, one small incision was made at the middle axillary of the hair-bearing area. The whole hair-bearing skin was undermi

Axillary hyperhidrosis (AH) and bromhidrosis are common causes of consultation in dermatology. Currently, the most widely prescribed treatment for AH is botulinum toxin, a very effective but temporary option; it is totally ineffective in bromhidrosis. Sympathectomy is an increasingly infrequent choice of treatment due to the high incidence of compensatory hyperhidrosis. We describe the treatment of AH and bromhidrosis with a novel microwave device that can fibrose eccrine and apocrine glands, achieving possibly permanent results. The procedure should preferably be performed under tumescent ane

PURPOSE: For patients with axillary bromhidrosis, it is not clear that whether a low response to initial botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) treatment is related to poor long-term outcomes.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From August 2011 to March 2016, 31 patients with primary axillary bromhidrosis were recruited. They had the duration of efficacy for less than 4 weeks (median, 3 weeks; range, 1-3 weeks) after the first BTX-A injection (50 U per underarm) and were considered to have a low response to BTX-A treatment. The second injection with the same dose was immediately administered once the symptoms recurred

Surgical removal of apocrine glands is a valid treatment option for axillary bromhidrosis. However, malodor may recur after the operation. The value of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) injection in the treatment of secondary axillary bromhidrosis was investigated in the present study. From July of 2012 to May of 2016, 53 patients with secondary axillary bromhidrosis were enrolled in our clinic. Various BTX-A injection strategies were applied depending on different types of previous surgery. None of the patients reported adverse side effects after the procedure. The duration of efficacy ranged from 1

BACKGROUND: We aimed to understand the curative effect of liposuction curettage (LC) in the treatment of bromhidrosis.
METHODS: Relevant studies published before January 2017were searched from the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Wanfang, VIP, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases. Parameters including recurrence, complications, complete response, and overall response were assessed. Meta-analysis was performed using the R 3.12 statistical package. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were used for dichotomous data. Heterogeneity was assessed using Cochran's Q-

BACKGROUND: Liposuction-curettage (LC) is a popular and effective surgical method for the treatment of axillary bromhidrosis (AB). However, residual malodour and skin necrosis often appear after this type of surgery. We investigated the efficacy and complications of 4 methods of LC.
METHODS: A total of 280 patients with AB comprised the study cohort, of which 228 were followed up. We carried out 4 methods of modified tumescent LC through mini-incisions and provided a questionnaire for evaluation of surgical outcome. Evaluations were malodour elimination, scarring, reduced growth of hair, and
