Unilateral linear capillaritis: two unusual Chinese cases.

Unilateral linear capillaritis (ULC) is a rare special variation of pigmented purpuric dermatosis (PPD), which is characterized clinically by linear or segmental distribution of pigmented purpuric macules located predominantly on the lower extremities and showing a favorable prognosis. In this case report, we describe two unusual cases of ULC, in one male and one female patient, with unilateral lesions involving the upper extremities that loosely follow the dermatome lines. Biopsy results revealed a common histopathology feature to PPD without heavy band-like infiltration in the upper dermis.

[Generalized Schamberg's disease treated with PUVA in a child].

BACKGROUND: Chronic pigmented purpuric dermatitis includes various entities seen above all in adults, although they may occasionally appear in children. The various therapies available are generally unsuccessful. We report the case of a child who responded dramatically to PUVA therapy. CASE REPORT: A 10-year-old Caucasian boy of phototype III was evaluated for a one-month history of progressive eruption on the upper extremities, followed by spread to the trunk and the lower extremities. On examination, he had generalized red-yellow lesions with "cayenne-pepper" spots. Extracutaneous examinati

Granulomatous variant of chronic pigmented purpuric dermatoses: report of four new cases and an association with hyperlipidaemia.

Four patients presenting with chronic pigmented purpuric dermatosis (CPPD) on the limbs were found to have granulomatous inflammation superimposed on the pathological changes of CPPD. Three of the four patients had hyperlipidaemia. Therefore, the granulomatous reaction observed could be associated with hyperlipidaemia. Whether it occurs only in Asian people or not needs further observation.

Pigmented purpuric dermatosis: classification by phenotypic and molecular profiles.

The categorization of pigmented purpuric dermatosis (PPD) as a form of cutaneous lymphoid dyscrasia has been suggested. Phenotypic and molecular studies were done on 43 patients with PPD. The molecular studies used a capillary gel electrophoresis T-cell receptor beta multiplex polymerase chain reaction assay. There were 2 principal categories: polyclonal PPD represented by 22 cases and monoclonal variants comprising 21 cases. Monoclonal cases had extensive skin lesions. An identical restricted T-cell repertoire independent of time and location was observed. Approximately 40% of the monoclonal

Assessment of TCR-beta clonality in a diverse group of cutaneous T-Cell infiltrates.

While some unequivocally benign infiltrates are easy to distinguish from cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL), drug-associated lymphomatoid hypersensitivity reaction and cutaneous lesions of collagen vascular disease can show cytologic atypia, clonality and an immunophenotypic profile that closely simulates CTCL and cause diagnostics difficulties. Similar immunophenotypic and molecular abnormalities to those of malignant lymphoma can also be observed in pityriasis lichenoides chronica (PLC), large plaque parapsoriasis (LPP), pigmented purpuric dermatosis (PPD) and atypical lymphocytic lobular pann

[Atypical clinical presentation of pigmented purpuric dermatosis].

The term pigmented purpuric dermatosis (PPD) is used for a group of mainly asymptomatic, sometimes pruritic dermatoses that are clinically characterized by an eruption of pinpoint purpuric lesions along with yellow, orange, red and/or brown, often patchy pigmented areas. Traditionally five subtypes have been distinguished, but atypical clinical patterns may also occur. Because of the variable clinical spectrum and the similar histopathologic findings, a strict nosological classification is sometimes difficult or even impossible to achieve. We report a case of PPD with atypical clinical feature

Pigmented purpuric dermatosis and hepatitis profile: a report on 10 patients.

BACKGROUND: Pigmented purpuric dermatosis comprises a group of vascular disorders of unknown etiology. Histologically, it is characterized by lymphocytic capillaritis in the papillary dermis. Although leukocytoclastic vasculitis confined to the skin is frequently reported with hepatitis C, lymphocytic vasculitis is rarely reported. METHODS: Ten patients with pigmented purpuric dermatosis were studied clinically and histopathologically. Hepatitis profile was carried out in all of the patients to evaluate the possible relation. RESULTS: Of the 10 patients, five tested positive for hepatitis C

Calcium dobesilate (Cd) in pigmented purpuric dermatosis (PPD): a pilot evaluation.

Pigmented purpuric dermatosis (PPD) is a chronic disorder of unknown etiology. It is quite common, and no therapy is significantly effective. Calcium dobesilate (Cd) has been tried successfully in many vascular disorders. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness and efficacy of Cd in PPD. Nine male patients (7 with Schamberg's and 1 each with lichenoid dermatosis of Gougerot and Blum and lichen aureus) were given Cd 500 mg twice daily for two initial weeks and then 500 mg once daily for a total period of three months. All the patients were followed up for one year after cessation o

Purpuric generalized lichen nitidus: an unusual eruption simulating pigmented purpuric dermatosis.

BACKGROUND: Generalized haemorrhagic lichen nitidus is rare. To our knowledge, this form of presentation has only been reported once. OBJECTIVE: To describe a new case of generalized haemorrhagic lichen nitidus simulating a pigmented purpuric dermatosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: We document a 24-year-old man who presented with an 8-month history of a progressive non-pruritic, red-brown papular eruption on the dorsa of the feet, ankles and distal third of the legs. A diagnosis of Schamberg's progressive pigmentary dermatosis was made, and no treatment was prescribed. Two months later, the lesions

Schamberg's purpura in children: a review of 13 cases.

BACKGROUND: Schamberg's purpura (progressive pigmentary dermatosis or pigmented purpuric dermatosis) is uncommonly described in preadolescent children. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of cases of Schamberg's purpura with onset before 10 years of age was undertaken. Clinical and histopathologic data, as well as analytical studies including hemogram, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, serum chemistry, urinalysis, cryoglobulins, and screening for thrombotic and clotting disorders were recorded. RESULTS: A total of 13 patients (3 male and 10 female) from 1 to 9 years of age (median, 5

Minocycline-induced immune thrombocytopenia presenting as Schamberg's disease.

Minocycline hydrochloride, a synthetic tetracycline, is a systemic antibiotic that has received much attention over the past several years. Currently, minocycline is considered the most widely prescribed oral antibiotic in the management of acne. Minocycline has been associated with autoimmune events, hepatitis, lupus-like syndromes, serum sickness, vasculitis, Sweet's syndrome, and hyperpigmentation. We report a case of a patient who developed drug-induced immune thrombocytopenic purpura (DITP) after taking minocycline. The initial clinical presentation of nonpalpable, discrete nonblanching p

Granulomatous variant of chronic pigmented purpuric dermatosis: report of two cases.

Two patients presenting with chronic pigmented purpuric dermatosis (CPPD) on the dorsum of both feet were found to show granulomatous inflammation superimposed on the pathological changes of CPPD. Two similar cases have been reported from Japan. The unique clinicopathological features of this group of patients suggest that they have a rare granulomatous variant of CPPD.

Two cases of unilateral pigmented purpuric dermatosis.

Two cases of pigmented purpuric dermatosis showing unusual distribution are reported. Case 1: 35-year-old female. A group of three asymptomatic purpuric macules developed on the ulnar side of the elbow flexure of the left forear 3-6 months before presentation. Histopathological analysis revealed a band-like inflammatory infiltrate in the Uppermost dermis and extravasation of red blood cells just beneath the epidermis, but there was no evidence of lichefaction degeneration in the basal layer of the epidermis. Case 2: 26-year-old female. Asymptomatic purpuric pigmentations developed on the flexu
