[A CASE OF PENILE PYODERMA GANGRENOSUM WITH STERILE ABSCESS SUCCESSFULLY TREATED WITH CORTICOSTEROIDS].

Pyoderma gangrenosum is a non-bacterial inflammatory disease that forms ulcers and abscesses and can be exacerbated by mechanical stimulation. Surgical intervention for abscesses in the corpora cavernosa may exacerbate penile pyoderma gangrenosum. We report a case of penile pyoderma gangrenosum that was diagnosed minimally invasively by biopsy alone and treated with steroids. A 77-year-old man with penile swelling and pain was referred to our institution by his primary care physician for suspected penile cancer. Both infectious diseases and penile cancer were ruled out based on physical examin

Peristomal Pyoderma Gangrenosum Related to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Case Study.

BACKGROUND: Peristomal pyoderma gangrenosum (PPG) is a rare complication of peristomal skin. It is difficult to manage, and there are no guidelines for treatment. This case study describes the management of a patient with PPG while taking corticosteroids and cyclosporine as chronic therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). CASE: Mrs. T had SLE and a colostomy and developed PPG that was unresponsive to previous treatment. She was successfully treated with a barrier film, a topical corticosteroid, and an alginate dressing. CONCLUSION: The synergistic use of a barrier film, a topical cort

International collaborative experiences in managing pyoderma gangrenosum in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare but challenging extraintestinal manifestation (EIM) of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), affecting 6%-48% of IBD patients. This retrospective study analyzed affected patients and evaluated therapeutic strategies for both IBD remission and PG resolution. A multicenter retrospective analysis was conducted on patients with IBD and PG in eight tertiary IBD centers. Demographic data, prior therapies, surgeries, and treatment of PG were collected retrospectively, and treatment responses were assessed. The cohort included 50 patients (median age: 43 years; 68% fem

Type I and II Interferon Signalling Characterizes the Transcriptional Landscape of Sweet Syndrome.

Sweet syndrome (SS) is an autoinflammatory neutrophilic dermatosis characterized by abrupt-onset inflammatory skin lesions and systemic symptoms, yet its molecular pathogenesis remains incompletely defined. To delineate disease-specific inflammatory programmes, we performed NanoString-based transcriptomic analysis of SS skin lesions and compared them with healthy control skin and pyoderma gangrenosum, a related neutrophilic dermatosis. SS exhibited a distinct inflammatory transcriptional signature marked by robust upregulation of type I and II interferon-stimulated genes, including CXCL9, CXCL

JAK Inhibitors for Treatment of Pyoderma Gangrenosum and Sweet Syndrome: A Systematic Review of Published Case Reports.

Neutrophilic dermatoses, including pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) and Sweet syndrome (SS), are inflammatory disorders characterized by neutrophilic infiltration without infection. Conventional therapies are often inadequate. We aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety of JAK inhibitors (JAK-I) in the treatment of PG and SS. The study was registered (PROSPERO-CRD420251113331), and a relevant search was conducted on PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase until July 27, 2025. Included studies were English language reports describing PG or SS treated with any JAK-I or cases of JAK-I-associat

Lesional pruritus in pyoderma gangrenosum: Present but not predominant.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare dermatologic disease resulting in chronic, painful ulcerations, most commonly on the lower extremity. Pruritus is a common symptom in many dermatologic conditions but has not been thoroughly evaluated in patients with PG. We sought to characterize the prevalence, severity, and impact on QOL of lesional pruritus in patients with PG. Data were obtained from the "Pyoderma Gangrenosum Study" (IRB#16753) at Oregon Health and Science University. Standardized outcome data were prospectively collected during clinical encounters from December 2019 to May 2024. Inclus

The IL-36 cytokine family: From barrier immunity to therapeutic target in inflammatory diseases.

The interleukin-36 (IL-36) cytokine family is an important regulator of inflammatory responses at epithelial barrier surfaces, with particularly prominent roles in skin immunity and inflammatory disease. As members of the IL-1 superfamily, IL-36 cytokines include three agonists (IL-36α, IL-36β, and IL-36γ) and two antagonists (IL-36Ra and IL-38), which signal through a shared heterodimeric receptor complex to activate MyD88-dependent pathways, including NF-κB and MAPK, and induce pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and antimicrobial peptides. A defining feature of IL-36 biology is its depe

Pyoderma Gangrenosum Presenting As Recurrent Vulvar Ulceration in a Nine-Year-Old Girl: A Case Report.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis characterized by rapidly progressive, painful ulcerations that often mimic infectious processes. Vulvar involvement is an uncommon presentation, particularly in pediatric patients, making the diagnosis especially challenging. We report the case of a nine-year-old girl who presented with rapidly evolving vulvar ulcerations that were unresponsive to intravenous and topical antibiotics. Because of the unusual clinical presentation and lack of response to antimicrobial treatment, a skin biopsy was performed, revealing dense neutrophilic d

Recurrence after healing in pyoderma gangrenosum: a prospective registry-based cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis with potential for relapse after healing, yet recurrence in real-world settings remains unknown. We aimed to evaluate recurrence patterns to inform clinical practice and future research. METHODS: Data were abstracted from a uniquely, prospectively maintained pyoderma gangrenosum registry. A cohort of patients with pyoderma gangrenosum seen between December 1st, 2019 and March 1st, 2026 who healed within this timeframe was identified. Two subgroups were then created: those who remained healed, and those who had a recurrence. De

Recurrent Pyoderma Gangrenosum with Initial Onset in Early Pregnancy: A PARACELSUS-Supported Clinical Diagnosis in a Resource-Limited Setting in South-Western Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis characterized by rapidly progressive, painful cutaneous ulceration and remains a diagnosis of exclusion because no single laboratory or histopathological test is diagnostic. Establishing a clinically well-supported diagnosis is particularly challenging in resource-limited settings where histopathology and other advanced investigations are often unavailable, necessitating reliance on structured clinical assessment and validated diagnostic frameworks. CASE PRESENTATION: A 26-year-old multiparous woman from South-Western Uga

Neutrophilic dermatoses.

Neutrophilic dermatoses are a group of rare heterogenous inflammatory disorders that share the presence of a sterile neutrophilic infiltrate on histopathology due to an underlying systemic illness, which can be a malignancy. This group of disorders can have diverse clinical presentations, including papules, plaques, nodules, vesiculopustular lesions, or ulcerations. We review the clinical and histopathologic features of several neutrophilic dermatoses that can be cutaneous manifestations of an underlying malignancy, including Sweet syndrome (acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis), pyoderma gan

Postoperative Pyoderma Gangrenosum Mimicking Early Periprosthetic Joint Infection After Total Hip Arthroplasty in a Patient With Hairy Cell Leukemia: A Diagnostic Challenge.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare, sterile neutrophilic dermatosis characterized by rapidly progressive, painful cutaneous ulcerations and frequently associated with systemic diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatologic disorders, and hematologic malignancies. In particular, recognition of PG as a cutaneous manifestation of an underlying hematologic neoplasm can be critical for timely diagnosis of the systemic disease. Postoperative PG after total hip arthroplasty may closely mimic early periprosthetic joint infection and can lead to unnecessary surgical revisions and prolon

Pyoderma gangrenosum presenting to an infectious diseases clinic: A 2024 case series.

Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis characterized by painful ulcerative skin lesions and a lack of definitive diagnostic tests. It is frequently mistaken for infectious conditions, often resulting in inappropriate antibiotic use and delayed immunosuppressive therapy. To describe the clinical and demographic characteristics of patients with pyoderma gangrenosum initially assessed in an infectious diseases setting and identify patterns that may aid in earlier diagnosis and management. A retrospective case series was conducted at a Cellulitis Clinic. Patients with a PARACELSUS

Paraneoplastic dermatoses in patients with hematologic malignancy.

Malignancies can elicit a vast array of systemic findings in patients that are not directly driven by tumor invasion. These paraneoplastic syndromes may result from mechanisms ranging from ectopic hormone expression to crossreactive immune responses. Many of these paraneoplastic syndromes can even resemble autoimmune dermatoses. Paraneoplastic dermatoses are especially common in patients with hematologic malignancies. We review the fundamental mechanisms underlying immune-mediated paraneoplastic dermatoses in patients with hematologic malignancies and describe several common paraneoplastic der
