AIM: To determine the reporting accuracy of pressure injury categorisation by bedside clinicians, compared with nurse experts.
BACKGROUND: Pressure injuries are an enduring complication of hospitalisation. The categorisation of pressure injury affects treatment and management decision-making and use of resources, and severe hospital-acquired pressure injury incidence is used to benchmark quality of care. However, it is unclear how accurately pressure injuries are categorised by clinicians in practice.
DESIGN: Secondary analysis of hospital pressure injury incident and validation data.

BACKGROUND: In the last decades, noninvasive ventilation (NIV) has been increasingly used to support patients with hypercapnic and hypoxemic acute respiratory failure. Pressure ulcers are a frequently observed NIV-related adverse effect, directly related to interface type and exposure time. Switching to a different interface has been proposed as a solution to improve patient comfort. However, large studies investigating the benefit of this strategy are not available. Thus, the aim of the ROTAtional-USE of interface STUDY (ROTA-USE STUDY) is to investigate whether a protocolized rotational use

BACKGROUND: Approximately 20% of flap surgeries in people with spinal cord injury/disorder and stage III and IV pressure injury result in a major complication requiring re-surgery. Although several factors are associated with postoperative complications according to the literature, there is no risk prediction model for major postoperative complications in the treatment of stage III and IV pressure injuries in people with spinal cord injury/disorder.
STUDY AIM: The study aims to predict the risk of major postoperative complications in people with spinal cord injury/disorder and stage III and I

BACKGROUND: Complication rates of up to 46 percent are reported following pressure sore surgery. Pressure sore patients often exhibit ineffective postoperative wound healing despite tension-free flap coverage, necessitating surgical revision and prolonged hospitalization. Rather than pressure sore recurrence, such impaired healing reflects a failed progress through the physiologic stages of the normal wound-healing cascade. The principal objective of the study reported here was to elucidate potentially modifiable inherent variables that predict predisposition to impaired healing and to provide

BACKGROUND: The treatment of chronic calcaneal osteomyelitis is a challenging and increasing problem because of the high prevalence of diabetes mellitus and operative fixation of heel fractures. In 1931, Gaenslen reported treatment of hematogenous calcaneal osteomyelitis by surgical excision through a midline, sagittal plantar incision. We have refined this approach to allow successful healing and early mobilization in a modern series of complex patients with hematogenous, diabetic, and postsurgical osteomyelitis.
METHODS: Twenty-eight patients (mean age 54.6 years, range 20-94) with Cierny-M

INTRODUCTION: A left ventricular assistance device (LVAD) is indicated in patients with end-stage heart failure. Due to the non-physiologic blood flow, a LVAD may favor pressure sores with a devastating risk of infection. This work shows the prevalence and treatment of pressure sores in LVAD patients, to optimize their management.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively investigated all LVAD implantations at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) from 2015 to 2019. We detected patients who developed a pressure sore and evaluated the timeline, management, and outcomes.
RESULTS: Forty-two pa

INTRODUCTION: Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) represents the most severe form of peripheral artery disease (PAD). Up to a third of CLTI patients are not eligible to receive first-line treatments such as bypass surgery or endovascular interventions. Epidural spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has been used as a method to improve microcirculatory blood flow and relieve ischemic pain in CTLI patients. The aim of the study was to evaluate limb salvage, ulcer closure, and clinical changes of SCS implanted CTLI patients at 1-year follow-up.
METHODS: Eligible patients had end-stage lower limb PA
