Right ethmoid eosinophilic angiocentric fibrosis with orbital extension.

INTRODUCTION: Eosinophilic angiocentric fibrosis (EAF) is a slowly progressive, benign disease involving the mucosa of the upper airways or, more rarely, the orbit. It belongs to the spectrum of IgG4-related disease. CASE REPORT: The authors report the case of a 61-year-old man who presented with orbital involvement (visual loss, pain, proptosis, and eyelid oedema), headache and nasal obstruction. Imaging revealed a right ethmoido-orbital mass infiltrating the periorbital fat and enveloping the optic nerve. Histological examination concluded on a diagnosis of EAF in the presence of perivascul

[Granulomatous periocular eruption].

BACKGROUND: Herein, we report a case of atypical periorificial dermatitis in a patient that had been receiving treatment for some time for atopic dermatitis. The specific feature of this rash was its periocular predominance with no perioral involvement, its clinical aspect and its histological picture evocative of sarcoidosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A 33-year-old man was being treated for a atopic dermatitis limited to the face and poorly responsive to dermal corticosteroids. Treatment was initiated with topical tacrolimus 0.1%. After 4 years, dependence on this treatment was noted, with daily

Complete Clearance of Resistant Granuloma Faciale With Pulsed Dye Laser After Pre-treatment With Mometasone and Tacrolimus.

Introduction: Granuloma faciale is an uncommon inflammatory dermatosis which usually affects the face and is often resistant to treatment. Case Report: A 39-year-old English lady with Fitzpatrick skin phototype II presented with typical lesions of granuloma faciale, confirmed on biopsy, on her cheeks and nose. Treatment with ScleroPlus pulsed dye laser (Candela Corporation, Wayland, Mass) produced no visible improvement. The patient re-presented 5 years later with the same lesions, now more prominent. No improvement was noted with topical mometasone, however addition of topical tacrolimus caus

Extrafacial Granuloma Faciale: A Case Report and Brief Review.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is a rare, inflammatory, cutaneous disorder of unknown aetiology. It presents clinically as one or several well-circumscribed violaceous papules, plaques, and nodules almost exclusively confined to the facial region. Rarely, extrafacial lesions can occur, most often on sun-exposed sites. We report a case of extrafacial GF in a 63-year-old male with indolent lymphoma, who presented with plaques involving the right preauricular region and left posterior axilla. The clinical and histopathological findings were consistent with GF. Our case highlights the importance of perfor

Evaluating the clinical and demographic features of extrafacial granuloma faciale.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is an uncommon cutaneous disease of uncertain etiology that predominantly affects the face. Extrafacial lesions are rare. The purpose of this study was to describe the clinical and demographic features of a series of patients with extrafacial manifestations of GF who were diagnosed and treated at a single center over more than 5 decades. We performed a retrospective medical record analysis for all patients diagnosed with extrafacial GF who were treated at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota) from 1959 through 2013. During the study period, extrafacial GF was diagnosed in 1

[Humoral immune diseases: Cutaneous vasculitis and auto-immune bullous dermatoses].

Humoral immunity is the cause of multiple diseases related to antibodies (IgA, IgG, IgM) produced by the patient. Two groups of diseases are identified. The first group is related to circulating antigen-antibody complexes. The antigens are various. They are often unknown. These immune complexes cause a vascular inflammation due to the complement fixation. Consequently, this group is dominated by inflammatory vasculitis. In the second group, the pathology is due to the fixation in situ of antibodies to a target antigen of the skin that is no more recognized by the patient. This group is represe

[Central giant cell granuloma in children: Presentation of different therapeutic options].

Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is a benign tumor that may be subdivided in a non-aggressive form and an aggressive form. In aggressive forms, tumor size and high recurrence risk need large surgical resections. In order to minimize surgical morbidity, especially in children, medical treatments acting on the tumor proliferation are currently being assessed: steroids (triamcinolone), anti-osteoclastic drugs (calcitonine, alendronate, denosumab), anti-angiogenic drugs (interferon α). However to date, there is no evidence for any superiority of medical over surgical treatment. Complete respons

Cervicofacial non-tuberculous mycobacteria: A report of 30 cases.

BACKGROUND: Mycobacterial infection is the most common cause of cervical granuloma, implicating either a tuberculous or a non-tuberculous mycobacterium (NTM). NTM is a ubiquitous organism, found in soil, water, food, etc. The most frequently implicated is Mycobacterium avium-intracellular. Most authors agree that NTM is increasingly isolated, due to a decrease in vaccination rates. Initial diagnosis is difficult and management is not clearly codified. METHODS: A retrospective study conducted in the University Hospital of Nantes, France, between 2005 and 2014, included all patients treated for

[NK/T-cell Lymphoma of nasal-type: A rare affection with a poor prognosis].

INTRODUCTION: NK/T cell lymphoma of nasal-type was described in 1933 as a malignant midfacial granuloma. The diagnosis of this rare affection is clinical and immunohistopathological. We report a case of NK/T cell lymphoma diagnosed at an advanced stage. OBSERVATION: A 60-year-old man with no particular medical history presented since seven months with a left nasal obstruction associated with a purulent and fetid rhinorrhea followed by a centrifugal midfacial necrosis. Blood tests showed an inflammatory syndrome. The CT-scan of the face showed a filling of the nose and sinus by a tissular proc

Granuloma Faciale and Erythema Elevatum Diutinum in Relation to Immunoglobulin G4-Related Disease: An Appraisal of 32 Cases.

OBJECTIVES: To elucidate whether granuloma faciale (GF) and erythema elevatum diutinum (EED), two inflammatory skin dermatoses, meet the consensus histopathologic diagnostic criteria for immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD). METHODS: With institutional review board approval, we assessed the clinical, microscopic, and immunophenotypic features of skin specimens of patients with GF and EED. We compared these findings with previously published consensus diagnostic criteria for IgG4-RD. RESULTS: Thirty-two patients (GF, n = 25; EED, n = 7) met study inclusion criteria. Histopathologic fin

"Drug-resistant granuloma faciale": treatment with carbon dioxide-GaAs laser.

Granuloma faciale (GF), also known as "eosinophilic granuloma," is a rare benign leukocytoclastic vasculitis which most commonly occurs on the face of middle-aged Caucasian males. Clinically, GF appears as single or multiple, slowly growing, reddish-brown papules, nodules or plaques which may be cosmetically unpleasant. Its pathogenesis is unknown and GF is notoriously resistant to treatments. Both medical (dapsone, colchicine, gold injections, isoniazid, clofazimine, corticosteroids, psoralen ultraviolet radiation, and topical tacrolimus) and surgical therapies (excision, graft, dermabrasion,

Granuloma faciale: An unusual diascopic finding.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is a benign, chronic inflammatory disorder, characterized by reddish brown plaques with prominent follicular orificesand telangeictasia, usually occurring over the face. The condition often presents a problem in differential diagnosis. Herein we describe a case of GF with an unusual diascopic finding of an apple jelly appearance on diascopy.

Eosinophilic Skin Diseases: A Comprehensive Review.

Eosinophilic skin diseases, commonly termed as eosinophilic dermatoses, refer to a broad spectrum of skin diseases characterized by eosinophil infiltration and/or degranulation in skin lesions, with or without blood eosinophilia. The majority of eosinophilic dermatoses lie in the allergy-related group, including allergic drug eruption, urticaria, allergic contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and eczema. Parasitic infestations, arthropod bites, and autoimmune blistering skin diseases such as bullous pemphigoid, are also common. Besides these, there are several rare types of eosinophilic derma

Defining a new aggressiveness classification and using NFATc1 localization as a prognostic factor in cherubism.

Cherubism is a rare genetic disease characterized by bilateral giant cell reparative granuloma of the jaws consisting of a fibrotic stroma with giant multinucleated cells (GMCs) and osteoclastic features. Cherubism severity is highly variable, and recurrence after surgery is the most important risk. Currently, there are no prognostic indicators. The aims of this study were to evaluate the osteoclastogenesis phenotype by histologic examination of nuclear factor of activated T cells 1 (NFATc1) localization and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) activity and to correlate the results to di
