Erythema elevatum diutinum - a chronic leukocytoclastic vasculitis microscopically indistinguishable from granuloma faciale?

BACKGROUND: As the sequential inflammatory changes are the same in erythema elevatum diutinum (EED) and granuloma faciale (GF), histopathologic distinction may be difficult. METHODS: All available cases from 1998 to 2009 with the diagnosis of EED and GF were collected and reviewed, both clinically and histopathologically. Nine cases of EED and 41 cases of GF were reviewed in a blinded fashion using a checklist of 26 histopathologic criteria. RESULTS: Only four of the evaluated criteria showed differences between GF and EED. High density of the infiltrate was noted in 97% of cases of GF but o

Granuloma faciale with subglottic eosinophilic angiocentric fibrosis: case report and review of the literature.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is an uncommon inflammatory dermatosis that usually presents on the face as reddish brown or violaceous papules and nodules that may coalesce into plaques. Eosinophilic angiocentric fibrosis (EAF) is a rare fibrosing condition that shares many histologic characteristics with GF and is regarded by some authors as a mucosal counterpart of GF. We present a case of GF with concurrent EAF in a subglottic location with excellent response to an intralesional corticosteroid on the GF lesion, CO2 laser on the EAF lesion, and oral dapsone treatment.

Granuloma faciale: a case report on long-term treatment with topical tacrolimus and dermoscopic aspects.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is an uncommon, benign form of chronic leukocytoclastic vasculitis, which predominantly affects the face and which is notoriously resistant to several therapies. Besides a range of therapeutic modalities, tacrolimus has been recently reported in the successful treatment of GF. Herein we describe the clinical, dermoscopic and histopathological findings in a patient affected by GF and its response to long-term topical treatment with tacrolimus 0.1% cream.

Granuloma faciale with disseminated extra facial lesions.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is a rare cutaneous disorder categorized as a localized form of small vessel vasculitis. Clinically, it manifests as single or multiple, well-demarcated, red-brown plaques, papules and nodules, nearly always confined to the face. Herein, we report a 39-year-old man with multiple red-brown, infiltrated plaques on his face and extrafacial lesions on the back, shoulders, and both arms. Skin biopsy revealed typical histopathological findings of GF. The patient failed to respond to pulsed dye laser, but intralesional triamcinolone combined with cryotherapy led to an acceptabl

The interaction of inflammatory cells in granuloma faciale.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is a rare chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by single or multiple reddish-brown cutaneous plaques or nodules. Although this condition is benign, its clinical course is extremely chronic with poor response to therapy. The typical histopathological features of GF include vasculitis with mixed cellular infiltration; however, its etiopathogenesis remains unknown. Here, we describe the case of a 76-year-old man with GF resistant to topical steroids. Biopsy of the lesion revealed i) dense mixed inflammatory cellular infiltrates of lymphocytes, histiocytes, neutro

Palpebral involvement as a presenting and sole manifestation of discoid lupus erythematosus.

A 28-year-old woman presented with a 2-year history of idiopathic, chronic blepharitis unresponsive to several courses treatment of corticosteroid eye drops. Physical examination was notable for edematous, erythematous plaques of the lower eyelids with madarosis in the absence of preceding skin scarring. Biopsy specimen was obtained and diagnosis of discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) was made. DLE is a chronic, cutaneous disease that is clinically characterized by a malar rash, acute erythema, and discoid lesions. Localized DLE occurs when the head and neck only are affected, while widespread D

[Description of complications after injection laryngoplasty with polydimethylsiloxane].

The injection of polydimethylsiloxane for medialization of the vocal folds has been used for more than 15 years with satisfactory long-term results. However there is little in the literature with regard to the complications and their treatment. We present 2 cases (1 unilateral laryngeal paralysis and 1 bilateral vocal fold atrophy) with unsatisfactory results after PDMS injection. The first case had chronic granulomatous inflammation induced by the PDMS and the second a periprothetic fibrotic reaction causing cordal rigidity. A superior cordotomy and extraction of the PDMS was performed in the

A finding of granuloma faciale associated with basal cell carcinoma.

The clinical differential diagnosis of violaceous plaques on the face is broad and includes both neoplasms and inflammatory dermatoses. We report the first case of a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) superficial to an underlying granuloma faciale (GF). This is a single case report with clinicopathological correlation. Histological examination of a skin biopsy from the cheek revealed superficial BCC and GF. This case constitutes the first reported finding of coincident GF and BCC.

Granuloma faciale successfully treated with topical tacrolimus.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is a benign chronic condition characterized by recurrent plaques and nodules most commonly found on the face. We report a man with a 6-month history of plaques on his forehead and preauricular area consistent with GF that responded to twice-daily application of topical tacrolimus ointment, and who remains in remission 1 year later. This case supports previous reports of the successful use of topical tacrolimus in treating GF.

Granuloma faciale: Case report and review.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is a rare benign chronic inflammatory dermatosis usually appearing only on the face. The lesions of GF typically present as single, asymptomatic, erythematous, non-changing nodules or plaques. We present an illustrative case of GF and briefly review available treatment options.

Granuloma faciale successfully treated with topical tacrolimus: a case report.

Granuloma eosinophilicum faciale (GF) is a rare chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology. Although the condition is benign, its treatment is often unsatisfactory. We describe a case of a 60-year-old man with GF resistant to therapy with topical corticosteroids and liquid nitrogen. After 4 months of treatment with topical tacrolimus the lesions resolved, with remission lasting for 2 years.

[Should minor salivary gland biopsy still be performed?].

INTRODUCTION: Labial salivary gland biopsy (LSGB) is a very useful technique that is often performed in our specialty. A lot of these LSGB yield normal results and the interest of this technique may be discussed. This study was made to answer two questions: one on the diagnostic interest of LSGB for the suspected pathology, secondly to verify if there was a correlation between the results of LSGB assessment and the patient's final diagnosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Ninety-six LSGB were performed in 2004 for Sjögren syndrome, sarcoidosis, amyloidosis and other auto-immune diseases. The histologi
