Calcinosis Cutis With Selective Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor Inhibitors: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

Selective fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) inhibitors are emerging and promising treatment options in oncology, currently approved for metastatic cholangiocarcinoma and urothelial carcinoma. These agents are associated with various adverse events, including a range of dermatologic toxicities. In rare cases, they can cause calcinosis cutis (calcium deposition in the skin and subcutaneous tissue) or calciphylaxis (calcium deposition in blood vessels). Hyperphosphatemia, a common side effect, is considered a predisposing factor for these conditions. We report a rare case of pemigatinib-in

A novel presentation of calcinosis cutis of the scalp in adult dermatomyositis.

Dystrophic calcinosis cutis is the aberrant deposition of insoluble calcium in cutaneous tissue generally secondary to inflammatory connective tissue disease. Although calcinosis cutis is commonly seen in juvenile dermatomyositis, it is a relatively rare occurrence in adult disease. Herein, we discuss an 82-year-old woman with extensive history of dermatomyositis of the scalp who presented with new-onset calcinosis cutis of the scalp.

Hand surgical and injectable treatments in systemic sclerosis: A systematic review of published cases.

INTRODUCTION: Systemic sclerosis is a systemic autoimmune disease that can affect the hands leading to a deterioration in function. Unfortunately, current medical treatments are considered insufficient to improve patients' quality of life. However, innovative surgical and injectable treatments are available. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A systematic review of the literature on surgical and injectable treatments available to hand surgeons was carried out according to the PRISMA criteria. All the articles selected were analysed qualitatively and descriptively, and where possible the extracted data wer

Trisomy 18 with widespread calcinosis cutis.

Trisomy 18 is the second most common autosomal trisomy, associated with high mortality, with only 5-10% of affected individuals surviving beyond the first year of life. Consequently, comorbidities in long-term survivors are rarely reported. We describe the case of a 6-year-old East Asian girl with trisomy 18 who presented with calcinosis cutis. The patient initially developed a firm, non-tender subcutaneous nodule on the left wrist, which later spread to the forearm and upper arm. Physical examination and imaging revealed extensive subcutaneous nodules in other extremities. High-frequency ultr

Metastatic Calcinosis Cutis in the Emergency Department: A Case Report.

UNLABELLED: Calcinosis cutis is a condition in which calcium-phosphate salt deposits are formed in cutaneous and subcutaneous tissue. A subtype, metastatic calcinosis cutis, can occur in patients with disorders that cause hypercalcemia or hyperphosphatemia such as end stage renal disease. We present a case of a 67-year-old man with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on dialysis who presented to the emergency department with a draining left elbow wound. On exam, he had irregular, firm nodules palpable in the subcutaneous tissue of both large and small joints. The presence of calcinosis cutis on ima

Intravascular Large B-Cell Lymphoma Presenting as Systemic Capillary Leak Syndrome With Immunological Phenomena: A Case Report.

Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) has a high mortality rate, partly due to its heterogeneous presentation and rarity. We present a case of a 73-year-old woman who came into the emergency room in need of fluid resuscitation, interpreted as septic shock. However, broad-spectrum antibiotics gave no resolution, and no causative agent was found. Further physical examination showed proximal muscle weakness, Raynaud's phenomenon, and calcinosis cutis. During 3 weeks of admission, vasopressor support was required continuously due to a capillary leak syndrome. The patient passed away. The un

Calcinosis Cutis in a Seven-Year-Old Male With Hepatic Focal Nodular Hyperplasia and Congenital Partial Venous Drainage.

Calcinosis cutis, defined as the deposition of insoluble calcium salts in the skin and subcutaneous tissue, is an uncommon condition in pediatric populations. It may arise from various underlying causes, including metabolic, inflammatory, or structural anomalies, and is classified into several subtypes, each requiring a distinct approach to diagnosis and management. We present the case of a seven-year-old Indian male with a history of massive hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia and a congenital partial venous drainage anomaly, who developed widespread, firm, non-tender, skin-colored nodules over

Skin Disorders in Kidney Disease: Core Curriculum 2026.

Skin disorders occur commonly in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and may greatly impact their quality of life. These skin disorders have varying underlying pathophysiologies, but there are a few common mechanisms including the accumulation of uremic solutes, metabolic disturbances, and inflammation. Pruritus in the setting of CKD (CKD-associated pruritus or CKD-aP), acquired perforating disorder (APD), calcinosis cutis, calciphylaxis, cutaneous lupus, and vasculitis are skin disorders often occurring in association with kidney disease and with which clinicians should be familiar. Effectiveness of Multiwavelength Locked System laser therapy for calcinosis cutis in 3 dogs: a case series.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy using a dual-wavelength near-infrared laser (Multiwave Locked System; Asa Srl) as adjunctive treatment in dogs with calcinosis cutis (CC). ANIMALS: 3 client-owned dogs presented to 2 referral veterinary hospitals from 2022 through 2023 were included. Cases were identified retrospectively via medical record review. Inclusion criteria were clinical and cytological features consistent with CC and histopathological examination when available, diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism (HAC) based on clinical signs and diagnost

Auricular Tophaceous Gout Resembling Calcinosis Cutis in a Young Male: A Case Report.

Gout is an inflammatory disorder resulting from the deposition of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals in body tissues. Chronic or undertreated gout can progress to tophaceous gout. Although it most commonly affects the joints, auricular involvement is rare and can be misdiagnosed as other conditions, such as calcinosis cutis. We report a case of a 36-year-old male with a two-year history of slowly growing, painless, hard, white nodules on both auricles. Laboratory investigations revealed hyperuricemia, and histopathological examination demonstrated features consistent with gout tophi. Based on the

Critical Limb Ischaemia in a Patient With Subcutaneous Nodules: Clues to a Hidden Systemic Disease.

Dermatomyositis most commonly presents with characteristic rash or proximal muscle weakness; however, specific autoantibody subsets can produce markedly atypical phenotypes. Anti-NXP2 dermatomyositis is clinically significant for its strong association with malignancy, extensive calcinosis, and presentations that may be amyopathic or minimally symptomatic. We report a rare case of anti-NXP2-positive dermatomyositis manifesting without classical cutaneous or muscular features, instead presenting with acute limb ischemia and long-standing subcutaneous nodules. Amyopathic anti-NXP2 disease is unc

Idiopathic Penile Calcinosis Cutis: A Histopathological Case Report.

Background and Clinical Significance: Calcinosis cutis is a rare condition that can develop through several mechanisms. These include dystrophic, calciphylaxis (classical, metastatic, and iatrogenic), and idiopathic mechanisms. Idiopathic calcinosis cutis is rare and always a diagnosis of exclusion. A particularly rare site for the development of idiopathic calcinosis cutis is the penis. Case Presentation: A previously healthy 18-year-old male presented to our institution with a three-month history of a painless, firm swelling on the outer layer of the prepucium in the area of the commissure.
