Cutaneous Tuberculosis is a rare form of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis. It is a skin infection typically caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is more prevalent in TB-endemic areas and immunocompromised individuals. Cutaneous TB has various manifestations and can resemble a multitude of other skin conditions. The disease can be further classified by the route of infection and the bacillary load, which adds another layer of complexity to the diagnostic process. Awareness of cutaneous TB can prompt earlier initiation of microbiological and histopathological workup for the disease, thereby prev

Varicose veins are a common chronic disease in our population. They may frequently cause symptoms like pain, feeling of heaviness and tension in the legs. Untreated progression is frequent with complications like edema, skin changes, and venous ulcers but also deep or superficial thrombosis, pulmonary embolism as well as venous bleeding. The reasons for varicose veins are multigenetic changes with positive family history for varicose veins and degenerative tissue changes, increasing with age. For diagnosis, duplex ultrasound is key alongside the patient's medical history and clinical findings.

Chronic skin wounds in companion animals, particularly cats, often persist due to a combination of impaired healing responses and underlying primary etiologies, such as trauma, post-surgical dehiscence, pressure ulcers, allekirgic dermatitis, or immune-mediated conditions. Effective management therefore requires both accurate diagnosis and treatment of these primary causes and the implementation of strategies to promote tissue repair and regeneration. While an acute wound typically heals within 4–6 weeks through orderly phases of hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling, a chron

SIGNIFICANCE: Chronic wounds remain a major global health burden and often stall despite guideline-based care because of persistent inflammation, oxidative stress, impaired perfusion, and dysregulated extracellular matrix remodeling. Protein-based nutrition is best positioned as an adjunct to, rather than a substitute for, standard wound care.
RECENT ADVANCES: Human studies, supported by mechanistic rationale, suggest that optimizing total protein intake (commonly ∼1.25 to 1.5 g/kg/day in appropriate patients) and, in selected settings, adding functional components such as arginine, glutamine

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a promising tool in regenerative medicine, particularly in skin tissue engineering and wound healing. Their paracrine activity, mediated by the secretion of bioactive molecules into conditioned medium (CM), has attracted significant attention as a cell-free therapeutic alternative. This review comprehensively examines the role of MSC-derived CM in promoting skin regeneration and wound repair. We discuss the key components of CM - growth factors, cytokines, extracellular vesicles, and miRNAs - that collectively modulate inflammation, angiogenesis, f

Cutaneous tuberculosis is an uncommon extrapulmonary manifestation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. Vulvar involvement is an exceptionally rare clinical entity that poses significant diagnostic challenges due to its similarity to other dermatologic and gynecologic conditions. We present the case of a 25-year-old immunocompetent woman with an 18-month history of a vulvar and perineal lesion that developed over the scar of a previous episiotomy. The patient was initially managed for a recurrent bacterial soft-tissue infection and received multiple antibiotic regimens without a therapeuti

Inflammation-associated skin lesions, including psoriasis (PsO) and diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), greatly impair patients' quality of life. Gentiopicroside (GPS), a key iridoid glycoside from Gentiana species, exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and wound-healing properties, but its clinical application is limited by low oral bioavailability and poor skin permeability. Nanodelivery strategies have been actively explored to overcome these limitations. The objective of this review was to critically analyze recent breakthroughs in GPS-loaded nanodelivery approaches for the treatment of inflamm

Marjolin's ulcer (MU), the most frequently encountered form of squamous cell carcinoma arising in burn scars, may manifest either acutely - within the first year post-injury - or as a chronic condition, sometimes developing decades later. It is estimated that Marjolin's ulcers represent a small percentage of all cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas originating in non-grafted burn scars that have healed by secondary intention. The early surgical grafting of burn wounds has been suggested as a potential preventive measure against malignant transformation. Marjolin's ulcers are characteristically a

Diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic metabolic diseases worldwide, and its incidence continues to rise. Diabetes-related complications have become a major public health concern, with diabetic chronic wounds-particularly diabetic foot ulcers-representing one of the most challenging and clinically significant manifestations. These non-healing wounds often require prolonged recovery, severely impair patients' quality of life, and impose substantial economic and psychological burdens on healthcare systems and families. Conventional therapeutic approaches are limited by insufficient repara

Behçet's disease (BD) is a rare, chronic, and multisystemic vasculitis characterized by recurrent oral and genital ulcers, uveitis, and skin lesions. Although vascular involvement is common in BD, pulmonary manifestations are rare and potentially fatal. Among these, pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) represents an exceptional event, as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in BD usually remains adherent to the vessel wall and seldom embolizes to the lungs. We report a 52-year-old male with BD who presented with a four-day history of progressive dyspnea, productive cough, and new-onset hemoptysis. He had bee

Chronic wounds represent a significant healthcare challenge, necessitating innovative regenerative approaches. Autologous skin micrografts (ASMs) offers a promising solution for impaired wound healing. The technique involves mechanical disaggregation of full-thickness skin punch biopsies into micrografts, which are then injected or combined with a biological scaffold to promote healing. This retrospective case series presents our center's experience treating chronic wounds and burn sequelae using ASMs. Twelve cases involving ten patients were analyzed, with indications ranging from chronic ulc

Venous ulcers (VUs) and diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are the most common types of chronic leg ulcers but arise from distinctly different pathophysiologies. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has been shown to accelerate wound healing potentially through effects on microvascular perfusion. Chronic VUs respond less well to PBM therapy than DFUs. Previously, we showed a correlation between photobiomodulation-induced skin temperature changes and microvascular blood flow. The current study was designed to compare the acute microvascular response to photobiomodulation between venous and diabetic foot ulcers as

BACKGROUND: Severe gout flares may rarely present as systemic inflammatory syndromes, closely mimicking sepsis. Milk-of-urate bullae are an uncommon manifestation of extensive crystal burden and are typically described in chronic tophaceous gout. The combination of polyarticular involvement, extreme inflammatory markers, acute kidney injury (AKI), and bullous lesions represents a diagnostic challenge.

Chronic venous disease (CVD) is a prevalent condition that results from venous hypertension and leads to a variety of symptoms including leg pain, swelling, and venous ulcers. The condition significantly impacts quality of life (QoL) and imposes a burden on healthcare systems. Venoactive drugs (VADs) can manage CVD symptoms by improving venous tone, reducing inflammation, and enhancing microcirculation. In this review, six experts from Latin America provide a critical appraisal of the evidence supporting the use of VADs in CVD management. The review evaluates the efficacy of various VADs, incl

Chronic wounds, such as diabetic ulcers, represent a substantial clinical difficulty because of impaired healing, often resulting from vascular and nerve damage associated with hyperglycemia. Traditional treatments primarily offer supportive care but frequently fail to fully restore tissue function, highlighting the urgent need for advanced regenerative strategies. Stem cell-based therapies, especially those leveraging secretome and exosomes, have gained attention as effective alternatives to direct stem cell transplantation. These cell-free approaches offer several advantages, including low i
