Postburn Pyogenic Granuloma in an Infant: A Case Report With Review of Literature.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign vascular proliferation that commonly arises following trauma. Its occurrence in healing burn wounds, particularly in infants, is rare and poses diagnostic challenges. We present the case of an 11-month-old male who developed multiple rapidly growing, angiomatous nodules on the right cheek and scalp 2 weeks after sustaining a second-degree scald burn from boiling milk. The lesions exhibited typical bleeding and friability, prompting surgical excision and coverage with split-thickness skin grafts. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of PG. Po

Clear Cell Tumor With MITF::CREM Fusion: A Rare Case Report of a Newly Described Entity.

The increasing application of molecular diagnostics in pathology has enabled the identification of novel tumor entities, including clear cell tumor with MITF::CREM translocation, as recognized in the 5th edition of the WHO Classification of Tumours. We describe a case involving a 2-year-old boy with a left scalp lesion, initially suspected clinically to represent a pyogenic granuloma. Histopathological assessment, corroborated by molecular analysis, established the diagnosis of clear cell tumor with MITF::CREM translocation. This case emphasizes the need to consider rare entities in the differ

Rapidly growing esophageal pyogenic granuloma: A case report and review of the literature.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) or lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) is a benign vascular tumor characterized by rapid growth, nodular hyperplasia, and bleeding propensity. Though common on skin/oral mucosa, esophageal occurrence is rare. We report a 34-year-old male with recurrent acid reflux. Upper endoscopy (July 2022) revealed a 10-mm polypoid lesion above the esophagogastric junction, absent 13 months prior. It was successfully resected via endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) after submucosal saline injection, with histology confirming esophageal PG (LCH). Our literature review identified and ana

Auricular Pyogenic Granuloma Triggered by a Nonpiercing Ear Cuff.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is an acquired benign vascular lesion commonly affecting the skin and mucous membranes across all age groups. It is often triggered by minor trauma or chronic irritation, with the head and neck region being the most frequently involved (36%). Although PG can resolve spontaneously, surgical intervention is often warranted due to cosmetic concerns, bleeding, or pain. Auricular PG is rare, accounting for approximately 1% of cases, and has been linked to ear piercings. We present the first reported case of auricular PG associated with the use of a nonpiercing ear cuff. Give

Comparision of the efficacy of photodynamic therapy and imiquimod cream in patients with actinic keratosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Actinic keratosis is a common precancerous epidermal skin lesion characterized by rough, scaly patches on sun-exposed areas due to chronic UV exposure, and it carries a risk of progressing to squamous cell carcinoma. Both photodynamic therapy and imiquimod cream have been proven to be effective therapeutic option for actinic keratosis. However, there is no comprehensive systematic review that compare the efficacy of the two treatments. We conducted a comprehensive search of literature to evaluate the efficacy of photodynamic therapy and imiquimod cream in treating actinic keratosis. Meta-analy

Versatile Chitosan-Based Hydrogel Dressings for Multi-Scenario Wound Management.

Despite the great self-regeneration ability of skin, severe defects require the intervention of functional dressings for effective healing. Hydrogels are ideal candidates for wound administration because of their high hydration, structural porosity, and extracellular matrix mimicking properties. Chitosan (CS) is the core matrix for building hydrogels because of its inherent biocompatibility, oxygen permeability, hemostatic, and antimicrobial activities. Through reversible cross-linking strategies with dynamic covalent bonds (e.g., Schiff base and borate-diol) and physical interactions (hydroge

Omentin-1 promotes diabetic wound healing by regulating macrophage efferocytosis and M2 polarization.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that significantly impacts human health, with 25% of patients suffering from diabetic ulcers. Chronic persistent inflammation is one of the primary factors impeding wound healing in diabetes. As a recently identified adipocytokine, omentin-1 (also known as intelectin-1, ITLN1) demonstrates significant expression levels in the omentum, subcutaneous adipose tissue, and vascular endothelium, exhibiting potent anti-inflammatory characteristics. Emerging evidence indicates that this adipokine plays a crucial protective role in multiple inflammatory disorders, partic

Clinicians' Perspectives of the Pressure Injury Treatment Advisory 'PITA' Quick Guide: An Evaluation Across Three Australian Healthcare Settings.

Pressure injuries present significant challenges in clinical care, leading to severe complications such as infection, pain and delayed wound healing. They are a common chronic wound that contribute to increased morbidity, prolonged hospital stays and substantial healthcare costs. Despite national efforts to enhance chronic wound management, development of optimal treatment strategies remains a priority. The Pressure Injury Treatment Advisory (PITA) Quick Guide was developed to provide an evidence-based guide to support clinicians in pressure injury management. A survey was conducted to evaluat

Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma with Hypercalcemia of Malignancy and Skeletal Metastasis: Perioperative Case Report of Above-Knee Amputation.

Malignancy-associated hypercalcemia (MAH) is one of the most frequent and life-threatening metabolic emergencies in oncology; however, it is rarely observed in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). We report the perioperative management of a 48-year-old man with a left long-standing anterior knee scar complicated by recurrent ulceration. In August 2024, pathology confirmed well-differentiated cSCC; however, the patient was lost to follow-up. One year later, he presented with a progressive ulcer, fatigue, severe hypercalcemia, and renal impairment. Laboratory evaluation revealed suppressed

Cell-free therapeutics for non-healing wounds: role of MSC-derived exosomes in macrophage polarization, angiogenesis, and fibroblast-mediated ECM remodeling-bridging preclinical insights to clinical translation.

Non-healing wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, burns, and pressure injuries, represent a persistent clinical challenge, affecting an estimated 2-5% of the global population and accounting for annual healthcare costs exceeding USD 25 billion. Their failure to heal is driven by unresolved inflammation, inadequate vascularization, and progressive disorganization of extracellular matrix (ECM) architecture, which collectively disrupt the coordinated cascade of tissue regeneration. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes have emerged as a potent cell-free therapeutic approach capable of addr

Circumferential Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue Necrosis of the Left Lower Leg Secondary to a Chronic Arterial Ulcer Complicated by Bullous Cellulitis: Staged Debridement, NPWT, and Split-Thickness Skin Grafting for Limb Salvage.

Chronic arterial ulcers are associated with impaired healing and a high risk of infectious complications and limb loss. Bullous cellulitis represents a severe soft-tissue infection phenotype that may progress to extensive tissue necrosis. We report an 83-year-old woman with advanced atherosclerotic disease and a prior contralateral transfemoral amputation who developed bullous cellulitis complicating a long-standing circumferential distal lower-leg arterial ulcer, resulting in complete circumferential loss of skin and subcutaneous tissue with exposure of deep structures. After infection stabil

A Sacral Marjolin Ulcer in a Patient With Prior Back Abscesses.

A Marjolin ulcer is a cutaneous malignant growth typically associated with areas of prior injury and irritation, most commonly burn wounds. This case report documents a rare example of a sacral Marjolin ulcer that presented in a patient with a history of lower-back abscesses. There are numerous accounts of this malignancy arising in chronic wounds over many years, but reports of subacute presentations are scarcer. This report underlines the importance of early suspicion and diagnosis in patients who may not have the classic features.

Metastatic Marjolin Ulcers: A Systematic Review and Single-center Experience.

BACKGROUND: Marjolin ulcers (MUs) are rare, aggressive cutaneous malignancies that arise from previously injured or chronically inflamed skin. MUs have a poorer prognosis than other types of skin malignancies, with higher nodal metastases and recurrence rates. Although surgical resection remains the primary treatment modality, the management and outcomes of patients with metastatic disease are not well characterized. We reviewed literature on treatment strategies for metastatic MUs and report our institutional experience so as to stimulate interest in this difficult-to-treat entity. METHODS:
