[Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis - Sweet syndrome].

Sweet syndrome also termed acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis is characterized by the abrupt onset of fever, leukocytosis and demarcated papules and nodules, which show dense neutrophilic infiltrates in histopathology. This syndrome is often associated with malignant and immunological conditions. Treatment with systemic glucocorticoids is successful. In the following we describe a case of a 66 year-old woman patient, who had skin problems after being reoperated for umbilical hernia.

[Vasculitis in Sweet's Syndrome].

BACKGROUND: Also called acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis, Sweet's syndrome is non-infective dermatoses that exhibit a predominantly neutrophilic inflammatory infiltrate. Absence of vasculitis is a histologic criterion for diagnosis. However, recent reports suggest that vasculitis should not exclude the diagnosis. AIM: To describe their clinical, pathological and therapeutic characteristics. METHODS: We report a series of 47 cases of Sweet's syndrome, collected in our institution between 1997 and 2011. RESULTS: The patient population consisted of 11 males and 36 females. The mean age wa

Sweet's Syndrome Presenting in Concordance with Acute Coronary Syndrome.

Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet's syndrome) is typically characterized by an acute onset of erythematous papules, plaques, and nodules in a febrile patient. This dermatosis is classically accompanied by leukocytosis and neutrophilia, and has had reported associations with various underlying etiologies including drug reactions, malignancies, infections, autoimmune disorders, and inflammatory bowel diseases. However, most cases of acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis are idiopathic. We present a unique case of Sweet's syndrome in a patient with concurrent acute myocardial infarctio

MRI findings of neutrophilic fasciitis in a patient with acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet's syndrome).

Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet's syndrome) is a clinical condition that is histopathologically characterized by infiltration of the dermis with mature neutrophils with or without vessel wall destruction. Frequently, an extracutaneous systemic disease can be seen. We report magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of neutrophilic fasciitis in a 62-year-old man with Sweet's syndrome and musculoskeletal involvement. The musculoskeletal system is rarely involved in Sweet's syndrome and, to our knowledge, no previous report of MRI findings of neutrophilic fasciitis with myofascial in

A case of neutrophilic dermatosis of the dorsal hands with concomitant involvement of the lips.

Neutrophilic dermatosis of the dorsal hands (NDDH) is a localized, pustular variant of acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet syndrome). The lesions of NDDH clinically resemble those of Sweet syndrome (SS), but they differ from classic SS according to their locations (NDDH is predominantly restricted to the dorsal hands) and the smaller number of accompanying systemic symptoms. The histology of the NDDH lesion shows a dense dermal neutrophilic infiltration. The lesions rapidly resolve after systemic corticosteroid and/or dapsone therapy. We herein report on a case of neutrophilic dermato

Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet's syndrome) in a child, associated with a rotavirus infection: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Sweet's syndrome characterized by fever, blood neutrophilia and inflammatory skin lesions, is rarely diagnosed in children. It presents in three clinical settings: classical Sweet's syndrome, usually after a respiratory tract infection; malignancy-associated, frequently related to acute myelogeneous leukemia; and drug-induced. We present, to the best of our knowledge, the first case of a rotavirus -infection-related Sweet's syndrome. CASE PRESENTATION: An 18-month-old boy of Hellenic origin was referred to us with diarrhea, fever, neutrophilia, typical skin lesions, asymmetrical

Successful treatment of a symptomatic L5/S1 discal cyst by percutaneous CT-guided aspiration.

PURPOSE: High levels of metabolism and oxygen consumption in most adult murine ocular compartments, combined with exposure to light and ultraviolet (UV) radiation, are major sources of oxidative stress, causing DNA damage in ocular cells. Of all mammalian body cells, photoreceptor cells consume the largest amount of oxygen and generate the highest levels of oxidative damage. The accumulation of such damage throughout life is a major factor of aging tissues. Several multiprotein complexes have recently been identified as the major sensors and mediators involved in the maintenance of DNA integri

[Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis - Sweet's syndrome].

In Rheumatology there are several diseases that frequently develop cutaneous manifestations creating diagnostic difficulties. The Sweet's syndrome appears as archetype of the neutrophilic dermatosis, which is a group of not infectious illnesses, characterized for a dermic neutrophilic and angiocentric infiltrated. The four main features that define this syndrome are: cutaneous eruption, fever, peripheral neutrophilia and dermic neutrophilic infiltrated without vasculitis on skin biopsy. The authors describe a typical clinical case of Sweet's syndrome, pointing out the multiplicity of clinical s

Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet's syndrome) in childhood and adolescence: two new patients and review of the literature on associated diseases.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to analyse the literature on Sweet's syndrome in childhood focussing on associated diseases and to suggest possible screening procedures for this group of patients. Furthermore, two new patients with Sweet's syndrome are reported. METHODS: A literature search was performed on Pub med using search terms "sweet* syndrome*" and neutrophil* dermatos*. Patients were subdivided into the following groups: classic/idiopathic, paraneoplastic, and parainflammatory Sweet's syndrome. RESULTS: The literature search revealed 64 patients (including our two pati

Ocular involvement in acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet syndrome): new cases and review of the literature.

Sweet syndrome (acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis) is a dermatologic disorder with accompanying features of systemic inflammation. It is commonly associated with conjunctivitis, but a variety of types of ocular inflammation have been reported. The ocular manifestations of Sweet syndrome include periorbital and orbital inflammation, dacryoadenitis, conjunctivitis, episcleritis, scleritis, limbal nodules, peripheral ulcerative keratitis, iritis, glaucoma, and choroiditis. The ocular inflammation appears concurrently with skin lesions. An overview of Sweet syndrome is presented with a review

Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet's syndrome): a study of 15 cases in Iran.

BACKGROUND: Sweet's syndrome is well recognized by dermatologists and is not infrequently diagnosed in Iran; however, few case series have been reported. METHODS: A clinicopathologic study was carried out on 15 cases of Sweet's syndrome in Hamedan, in the west of Iran, between 1994 and 2004. RESULTS: The incidence of Sweet's syndrome was 3 per 10,000 amongst new dermatologic patients. All were women with a mean age of 58 years. All 15 cases were of the classic type, with no associated diseases. Fever was seen in only six (40%) patients. CONCLUSIONS: Sweet's syndrome has a broad spectrum of

The relationship between neutrophilic dermatosis of the dorsal hands and sweet syndrome: report of 9 cases and comparison to atypical pyoderma gangrenosum.

BACKGROUND: Neutrophilic dermatoses are a collection of diseases with varying presentation unified by clinical and histologic features. Neutrophilic dermatosis of the dorsal hands is a recently described clinical entity and an evolving disease concept. Its relationship to acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet syndrome), pyoderma gangrenosum, and a primary vasculitis has been debated. OBSERVATIONS: We present 9 cases (8 women and 1 man) of neutrophilic dermatosis of the dorsal hands, all with consistent histologic features. Two cases had histologic evidence of vasculitis, and 3 had clin

Sweet syndrome in two children.

We report a 9-month-old girl and a 4-year-old boy with acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet syndrome). Both children were febrile, had leukocytosis, and exhibited lesions characteristic of Sweet syndrome. Both had an antecedent infection. Our evaluation and long-term follow-up of these children failed to reveal evidence of underlying malignancy or a chronic systemic illness typically encountered in Sweet syndrome. Of interest, the 4-year-old boy responded to systemic corticosteroids with remission, whereas the 9-month-old infant experienced flaring of the disease on successive attempts

Acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis following tuberculous infection.

A case of acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet's syndrome) in association with tuberculosis has been reported. However association of the two diseases is not common. It appears as if Mycobacterium tuberculosis present somewhere in the body can induce cutaneous reactions as is the case in erythema nodosum and erythema induratum.
