[Wells syndrome (3 cases)].

This report describes three cases of eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells' syndrome) observed during six years. In the author's opinion this condition is not frequent, but neither exceptional. A revision of clinico-pathological, etiopathogenic and therapeutics aspects is carried out.

[Eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells syndrome)].

There is a 37 years old patient with a erythemato-nodular pathology on her lower limbs, which has relapsed during three years. The characteristics of the eosinophilic cellulitis are observed in the microscopic study. The clinical and laboratory attributes of this entity are discussed, according to the world medical literature.

[Eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells' syndrome)].

The Authors report a case of eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells' syndrome). The patient was a 61 year old woman, diabetic, with a cardio-respiratory insufficiency and a maniaco-depressive psycosis. She presented, on the upper arms and trunk, a cutaneous eruption of erythematous-urticarial plaques, that histopathologically were characterized by a dermic leukocyte population, with a prevalence of eosinophils, distributed in the perivascular site. Laboratory tests revealed eosinophilia and circulating immune complexes. The etiopathogenesis of the disease is discussed as is the possible role of immune

Eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells' syndrome): ultrastructural study of a case with circulating immune complexes.

A 42-year-old woman was observed during 3 bouts of eosinophilic cellulitis over a 6-year-period. Skin biopsies were taken at each relapse and processed for histological, immunofluorescent and ultrastructural studies. Histologically the eosinophilic infiltrate extended to the deep dermis and the subcutaneous fat. High levels of circulating immune complexes, and complement and IgG deposits around the vessels were detected for as long as the cutaneous lesions lasted. Under the electron microscope eosinophils were numerous, half of them degranulated and some granules had a double cristal core. No

Eosinophilic cellulitis in a family.

Eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells' syndrome) is characterized by recurrent episodes of nonpruritic, indurative, cutaneous swellings. Three cases of this syndrome occurred in two male siblings and their mother. In all three family members, skin lesions appeared early in infancy. Unusual clinical manifestations included eosinophilic pleural effusions and pericarditis.

Eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells' syndrome).

Two patients with eosinophilic cellulitis are reported and 22 additional cases from the literature are reviewed. Cutaneous lesions are variable in appearance and may be confused with cellulitis, urticaria, insect bites, or contact dermatitis. Microscopically, there is a dense dermal infiltrate of eosinophils. Subsequently, granulomatous features with characteristic "flame figures" become apparent. Peripheral eosinophilia is common. The etiology of eosinophilic cellulitis is unknown, although a hypersensitivity mechanism is suspected. Treatment with systemic corticosteroids is frequently effect

Eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells' syndrome): histologic and clinical features in arthropod bite reactions.

Five patients are described with the clinical and histopathologic picture, including flame figures, of eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells' syndrome). Two of them had documented tick bites in the center of these expanding annular lesions, and the histologic picture showed the diagnostic flame figures of Wells' syndrome (eosinophilic cellulitis). A third patient had a clinical picture suggestive of a tick bite reaction but stated she was stung by a small garden bee at the involved site. The fourth patient removed a spider from the site of a spider bite, and this nodule also histopathologically was i

Immunofluorescence identification of eosinophil granule major basic protein in the flame figures of Wells' syndrome.

An indirect immunofluorescence assay using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded skin was performed on six biopsies from four patients with eosinophilic cellulitis (Wells' syndrome) to determine the extracellular localization of eosinophil granule major basic protein (MBP). Serial sections from each biopsy were treated with either affinity chromatography-purified antihuman-MBP or staphylococcal protein A purified rabbit IgG (control material). There was striking extracellular fluorescence localized to flame figures, and intracellular staining of eosinophils in all sections treated with anti-MBP as
