Holistic Therapy in a Patient with Necrotic Ulcer Caused by the Bite of Brazilian Wandering Spider: A Case Report of Challenging Treatment with Combined Therapies.

Hard-to-heal wounds remain a significant challenge for healthcare professionals, particularly in aging populations. Although most chronic wounds are associated with diabetes or chronic venous insufficiency, rare etiologies should also be considered. One such cause is envenomation by Phoneutria spp. (native to South America, rare in Europe). Their venom contains potent neurotoxins. While systemic manifestations are more commonly reported, localized necrotic skin lesions may also occur. This case report presents a rare chronic wound following a suspected Phoneutria spider bite and highlights the

Comparative Survey on Effects of Low-Level Laser Therapy and Polarized Light Therapy on Open Wound Healing in Diabetic Rats.

OBJECTIVES: Diabetes is one of the most significant chronic metabolic disorders, and diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are recognized as one of the most serious complications of this disease due to delayed healing, increased risk of infection, and potential limb amputation. In recent years, noninvasive physical therapies such as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and polarized light therapy (PLT) or Bioptron have emerged as novel approaches to stimulate wound healing. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of these two therapeutic modalities on the healing process of skin wounds in a

Human ES cell-derived MSC spheroids encapsulated in polydopamine nanoparticle-modified GelMA hydrogel enhance diabetic wound healing.

Mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)-based strategies hold promises for treating diabetic foot ulcers. However, the hostile microenvironment of the lesions characterized by hypoxia, oxidative stress, and chronic inflammation impairs the survival and efficacy of transplanted MSCs. Here, we developed a composite bio-dressing by integrating MSC spheroid (Sp) derived from human embryonic stem cells via trophoblast intermediates (T-MSC) with gelatin methacryloyl hydrogel (Gm) and polydopamine nanoparticles (Pn). The GmPn matrix exhibited excellent adaptability, adhesion, porosity, biodegradability, and b

Design and synthesis of novel benzothiazole-pyrazole derivatives: cytotoxicity against panc-1 cancer cells and EGFR, antioxidant activity, molecular docking, MD simulations, ADMET, and DFT analysis.

INTRODUCTION: While most doctors believe they have a major role to play in breastfeeding promotion, and consider it worthwhile taking time to assist women to continue to breastfeed, it appears that gender and personal breastfeeding experience affect their attitude and confidence concerning breastfeeding issues. As doctors practicing in rural and regional areas may be expected to provide a greater degree of assistance and support for breastfeeding women, their views on these topics are of particular interest. Comparision of the efficacy of photodynamic therapy and imiquimod cream in patients with actinic keratosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Actinic keratosis is a common precancerous epidermal skin lesion characterized by rough, scaly patches on sun-exposed areas due to chronic UV exposure, and it carries a risk of progressing to squamous cell carcinoma. Both photodynamic therapy and imiquimod cream have been proven to be effective therapeutic option for actinic keratosis. However, there is no comprehensive systematic review that compare the efficacy of the two treatments. We conducted a comprehensive search of literature to evaluate the efficacy of photodynamic therapy and imiquimod cream in treating actinic keratosis. Meta-analy

Versatile Chitosan-Based Hydrogel Dressings for Multi-Scenario Wound Management.

Despite the great self-regeneration ability of skin, severe defects require the intervention of functional dressings for effective healing. Hydrogels are ideal candidates for wound administration because of their high hydration, structural porosity, and extracellular matrix mimicking properties. Chitosan (CS) is the core matrix for building hydrogels because of its inherent biocompatibility, oxygen permeability, hemostatic, and antimicrobial activities. Through reversible cross-linking strategies with dynamic covalent bonds (e.g., Schiff base and borate-diol) and physical interactions (hydroge

Omentin-1 promotes diabetic wound healing by regulating macrophage efferocytosis and M2 polarization.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that significantly impacts human health, with 25% of patients suffering from diabetic ulcers. Chronic persistent inflammation is one of the primary factors impeding wound healing in diabetes. As a recently identified adipocytokine, omentin-1 (also known as intelectin-1, ITLN1) demonstrates significant expression levels in the omentum, subcutaneous adipose tissue, and vascular endothelium, exhibiting potent anti-inflammatory characteristics. Emerging evidence indicates that this adipokine plays a crucial protective role in multiple inflammatory disorders, partic

Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma with Hypercalcemia of Malignancy and Skeletal Metastasis: Perioperative Case Report of Above-Knee Amputation.

Malignancy-associated hypercalcemia (MAH) is one of the most frequent and life-threatening metabolic emergencies in oncology; however, it is rarely observed in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). We report the perioperative management of a 48-year-old man with a left long-standing anterior knee scar complicated by recurrent ulceration. In August 2024, pathology confirmed well-differentiated cSCC; however, the patient was lost to follow-up. One year later, he presented with a progressive ulcer, fatigue, severe hypercalcemia, and renal impairment. Laboratory evaluation revealed suppressed

Cell-free therapeutics for non-healing wounds: role of MSC-derived exosomes in macrophage polarization, angiogenesis, and fibroblast-mediated ECM remodeling-bridging preclinical insights to clinical translation.

Non-healing wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, burns, and pressure injuries, represent a persistent clinical challenge, affecting an estimated 2-5% of the global population and accounting for annual healthcare costs exceeding USD 25 billion. Their failure to heal is driven by unresolved inflammation, inadequate vascularization, and progressive disorganization of extracellular matrix (ECM) architecture, which collectively disrupt the coordinated cascade of tissue regeneration. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes have emerged as a potent cell-free therapeutic approach capable of addr

A Sacral Marjolin Ulcer in a Patient With Prior Back Abscesses.

A Marjolin ulcer is a cutaneous malignant growth typically associated with areas of prior injury and irritation, most commonly burn wounds. This case report documents a rare example of a sacral Marjolin ulcer that presented in a patient with a history of lower-back abscesses. There are numerous accounts of this malignancy arising in chronic wounds over many years, but reports of subacute presentations are scarcer. This report underlines the importance of early suspicion and diagnosis in patients who may not have the classic features.

Metastatic Marjolin Ulcers: A Systematic Review and Single-center Experience.

BACKGROUND: Marjolin ulcers (MUs) are rare, aggressive cutaneous malignancies that arise from previously injured or chronically inflamed skin. MUs have a poorer prognosis than other types of skin malignancies, with higher nodal metastases and recurrence rates. Although surgical resection remains the primary treatment modality, the management and outcomes of patients with metastatic disease are not well characterized. We reviewed literature on treatment strategies for metastatic MUs and report our institutional experience so as to stimulate interest in this difficult-to-treat entity. METHODS:
