Four cases are discussed in which were found unusual multiple chronic pulmonary nodules: leiomyomatous hamartomas, rheumatoid nodules, multiple histoplasmomas, and possible multiple plasma cell granulomas (hyalinizing pulmonary nodules). In each case the initial impression of metastic malignancy was countered by more than 2 years' observation, during which time the lesions appeared to be benign. Histologic examination is necessary to exclude malignancy, although a definitive diagnosis may be difficult to establish.

The immuno-modulatory effect of Levamisole in the treatment of rheumatic diseases was studied in an open trial. Nine patients with theumatoid arthritis (RA), 13 with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and one with Reiter's syndrome (RS) were treated initially with 150 mg Levmisole daily for 4 weeks, then intermittently 3 days a week. Significant clinical improvement was observed in 7 out of 9 patients with RA, in 4 out of 13 patients with AS, and in the one patient with RS. The early course of newly diagnosed RA among young adult patients (16-44 yr) is described from results of an ongoing study with a mean follow-up of 3.4 yr. Seven of 9 patients with Felty's syndrome exhibited cryoglobulins in greater amounts than found in uncomplicated RA but similar to amounts found in RA with vasculitis. Antinuclear antibodies were found in high titer in the sera and cryoglobulins of Felty's patients; when compared to SLE patients, whose sera and cryoglobulins also contained antinuclear factors, an antinuclear antibody reacting with nuclei of polymorphonuclear granulocytes appeared to be selectively concentrated in the cryoglobulins of some Felty's patients.

Three patients with Felty syndrome were treated with gold sodium thiomalate. In all three, there was an increase in total numbers of peripheral blood neutrophils and total white blood cells, as well as marked clinical improvement of the arthritic complaints. The effect of lithium carbonate upon granulopoiesis was studied in eight patients with Felty's syndrome. Absolute granulocyte counts increased in all patients receiving 900 mg lithium carbonate daily for six weeks. Increased urinary and serum granulocyte colony-stimulating activity was observed in all patients during lithium therapy. A casual relationship between increases in colony-stimulating activity and increased granulocytes is postulated.

Humoral factors, phagocytosis, bactericidal capability, and ultrastructural morphology of blood polymorphonuclear leukocytes were investigated in 10 patients with Felty's syndrome.
