BACKGROUND/AIM: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) usually affects the wrist, metacarpophalangeal joint, and proximal interphalangeal joint of the hands. However, the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joints may also be involved in RA patients. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the frequency and associated factors of DIP joint erosion in patients with RA.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Medical records of patients with RA were reviewed retrospectively. Patients with major trauma affecting DIP joints, osteoarthritis, erosive osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, systemic sclerosis, calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate d

BACKGROUND: Psoriatic arthritis can involve several domains. Due to its multifaceted nature and its frequent comorbidities such as depression, obesity, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia, it is difficult to monitor these patients because the clinical scores involve subjective data. High-resolution ultrasound probes allowed the evaluation of more superficial structures, such as the nails and their synovio-entheseal framework, in close relationship with the enthesis of the distal extensor digitorum tendon. Nail ultrasound studies vary in terms of the parameters and fingers studied and in their find

INTRODUCTION: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a heterogeneous disease with various manifestations such as dactylitis, enthesitis, spondylitis, and skin involvement. Minimal disease activity (MDA) has been successfully used in daily clinical practice and is considered a reasonable treatment target in patients with PsA. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the MDA status and associated factors in patients with PsA in our tertiary referral clinic.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study included patients who met the CASPAR classification criteria and had at least 6 months of follow-up data

AIMS: ultrasound (US) diagnosis of enthesitis is burdened of low specificity, especially when it is performed in patients with psoriasis (PsO) but without clinical psoriatic arthritis (PsA), because of mechanical, dysmetabolic and age-related concurrent enthesopatic changes. We propose a novel US score to quantify the cortical-entheseal bone remodeling burden of several peripheral entheses, aiming to improve the specificity of US for PsA-related enthesitis, and to evaluate its diagnostic value in PsO patients with subsequent diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis (PsO/PsA).
METHODS: clinical and US

OBJECTIVES: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) can mimic rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at an early stage, especially when psoriasis is lacking. In the absence of specific radiological and immunological markers, the differential diagnosis between these two diseases can be challenging. We aimed to determine whether hands ultrasonography (US) may be useful in the differential diagnosis between PsA and RA.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study including patients with PsA and RA. All wrists and small joints of the hands were examined using gray-scale and Power Doppler US. The evaluated US lesions were:

AIM: Tenosynovitis is one of the most frequently described inflammatory lesions in psoriatic dactylitis. The aim of the study was to assess by ultrasound the distribution of content within the synovial sheath of the finger flexor tendons in a cadaveric experimental model of tenosynovitis and to describe anatomically the elements of the space between the flexor tendons and the palmar aspect of the proximal phalanx of the fingers.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: Silicone was injected under ultrasound guidance into the digital flexor sheath of the index finger of a hand specimen. Ultrasound images of the d

The hand and wrist are among the most common anatomical areas involved in rheumatic diseases, especially seropositive and seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). The purpose of this study was to identify the most differentiating radiographic characteristics of PsA, seropositive RA, and seronegative RA, particularly in the early stages. A retrospective analysis of radiographic hand findings was performed on 180 seropositive RA patients (29 males, 151 females, mean age at the point of acquisition of the analyzed radiograph of 53.4 y/o, SD 12.6), 154 PsA patients (45

OBJECTIVE: While the relationship between psoriatic arthritis and skin findings is well-known in patients with psoriasis, the relationship between psoriatic arthritis and nail involvement is less known. In this study, it was aimed to examine the frequency of association between nail involvement and psoriatic arthritis in patients with psoriasis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our study is a retrospective observational study. It was conducted with 250 regis- tered patients who applied to the dermatology polyclinic and clinic of our university hospital. The follow-up forms of the patients were scanned

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-induced rheumatic immune-related adverse events (irAEs) have been infrequently reported, and the treatment of severe or refractory arthritis as irAEs has not been established yet.
CASE SUMMARY: The patient was a 67-year-old man with a history of well-controlled foot psoriasis who presented with polyarthralgia. He had received pembrolizumab for metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma 2 mo previously. Physical examination revealed erythematous swelling in the distal interphalangeal joints, left shoulder, and both knees. He had plaque psoriasis with psoria

Background Nail involvement in psoriasis is common and may be an indicator not only of disease severity, but also of the presence of psoriatic arthritis. However, the relationship of nail psoriasis with enthesitis remains under-explored. Aims This study was conducted to evaluate the clinical, onychoscopic (nail dermatoscopic) and ultrasonographic features in patients with nail psoriasis. Materials and Methods All nails of twenty adult patients with nail psoriasis were examined clinically and onychoscopically. Patients were evaluated for psoriatic arthritis (Classification Criteria for Psoriati

Various job demands continuously threaten Emergency Medical Service (EMS) first responders' safety and wellbeing. Drawing on Job Demands-Resources Theory, the present study examines the effects of the organizational context-safety climate-and the psychological context-emotional exhaustion-on safety behaviors and wellbeing over time. We tested our hypotheses in a longitudinal study of 208 EMS first responders nested within 45 stations from three fire departments in US metropolitan areas over 6 months during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Multilevel modeling showed that the relationship

OBJECTIVE: Can ultrasound (US), MRI and X-ray applied to the distal interphalangeal (DIP)-joint and synovio-entheseal complex (SEC) discriminate between patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA), skin psoriasis (PsO) and hand osteoarthritis (OA)?
METHODS: In this prospective, cross-sectional study, patients with DIP-joint PsA and nail involvement (n=50), PsO with nail involvement (n=12); and OA (n=13); were consecutively recruited. Risk ratios (RR) were calculated for US, MRI and X-ray findings of the DIP-joint and SEC between diagnoses.
RESULTS: New bone formation (NBF) in US and MRI was a ha

Pustulotic arthro-osteitis (PAO) has been studied primarily in Japan. However, there is a lack of research regarding its clinical features among large populations in other countries and it is often believed to be similar to psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Although the association between psoriasis (PsO) and palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is debatable, differences in the clinical characteristics between PsA and PAO might support the notion that PsO and PPP are distinct entities. This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of PAO in Korean patients and to compare them with those of Ps

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) without skin lesions is frequently confused with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study, we aimed to promote diagnostic accuracy. Five PsA patients with no skin lesions were reviewed. We analyzed the clinical characteristics of these patients. All patients had multiple peripheral arthritis as well as axial involvement, and had been misdiagnosed with RA for several years initially. They developed severe deformation as a result of delayed diagnosis and inadequate treatment. Four patients had nail changes and one had a family history of psoriasis. They had

BACKGROUND: Psoriatic arthritis treatment with antitumor necrosis factor has been shown to reduce disease activity. Nonetheless, more than 30% of patients do not achieve a sufficient response to tumor necrosis factor blockers. Currently, treatment with interleukin-6 inhibitors is expected to be effective and suppress the joint destruction in patients with psoriatic arthritis; however, evidence regarding their efficacy is limited to a few reports.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 78-year-old Japanese woman with psoriatic arthritis associated with rapid joint destruction was successfully treated with a sec

Diagnosing peripheral spondyloarthritis (pSpA) remains a significant challenge due to the lack of specific disease biomarkers and the overlap with other SpA subtypes, mainly psoriatic arthritis (PsA), which represents a diagnostic challenge particularly in the absence of skin psoriasis (PsA sine psoriase). This narrative review aimed to compare the epidemiology, genetic susceptibility, pathophysiology, classification criteria, disease phenotype and burden, and therapeutic guidelines between patients diagnosed with pSpA and those with PsA sine psoriase, to determine if the two entities should b
