Impact of Respiratory Viral Codetections on RSV Disease Burden in Young Children in Primary Care.

BACKGROUND: Young children with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) often have viral coinfections. This study assessed the impact of respiratory viral codetections on RSV disease burden in children < 5 years and whether this varies by specific codetected viruses. METHODS: Retrospective analyses were performed using data from the RSV ComNet study prior to implementation of passive immunisation. Children < 5 years with acute respiratory infection (ARI) were eligible for testing for RSV and other viruses (multiplex real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction). Primary care physicians completed a short rep

Development and validation of a simple nomogram for predicting knee osteoarthritis using movement evoked pain in a community setting.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a clinical disease with a high incidence rate. Early identification and treatment of KOA are of great significance. This study aims to establish a predictive model using the movement-evoked pain (MEP) test for the early diagnosis of KOA. From May to December 2018, we conducted a cross-sectional survey among 3374 residents from 12 communities in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Data collection included general demographic information, the MEP test and treatment history. The data set was randomly divided into training set and validation set at a ratio of 7:3 by comp

Prophylactic Treatment of Patent Ductus Arteriosus With Acetaminophen: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Controversies persist about management of the ductus arteriosus by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in extremely preterm infants. Acetaminophen (paracetamol) appears to be a promising alternative with possibly fewer adverse effects. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether prophylactic intravenous acetaminophen started within 12 hours of birth increases survival without neonatal severe morbidities at 36 weeks' postmenstrual age. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted among preterm infants born between 23 weeks 0 da

Joint association of risk factor clustering and socioeconomic position with non-communicable disease mortality risk: a prospective cohort study of 576 299 Norwegian men and women in the NCDNOR project.

INTRODUCTION: Well-known non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factors tend to cluster, forming groups with similar 'risk factor phenotypes'. However, the characterisation of such clusters and the role of socioeconomic position (SEP) in modifying their associations with NCDs still remain unclear. METHODS: We utilised data on smoking, physical activity, alcohol consumption, body mass index, blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride from health examination surveys conducted in Norwegian adults from 1974 to 2019 (n=5 76 299; age 20-65 years; 64% participation; 52% women) linked to registry data

Early outcomes and the learning curve of two domestically produced surgical robot systems with different operational philosophies for total knee arthroplasty.

A comparative study was conducted to evaluate the early clinical outcomes and learning curves associated with two domestically produced surgical robot systems with different operational philosophies—the Yuanhua “Kunwu®” and the Jianjia “Arthrobot”—in assisting total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This retrospective study analysed 107 patients with end-stage knee osteoarthritis. But the number of cases to proficiency was low and comparable for both, with proficiency attained in 13 cases compared to 16 cases in the other group. This was coupled with significantly reduced durations for both bone resect

Engineered Lysosome-Targeted Protein Degradation via Hijacking Macropinocytosis.

Recently, targeted protein degradation (TPD) strategies have emerged as an effective tool for addressing undruggable targets in both biomedical research and the pharmaceutical industry, selectively binding proteins of interest and targeting them to the intracellular degradation machinery for degradation. However, the targeting of extracellular proteins with current degradation tools requires a tedious, case-specific selection and design process based on lysosomal trafficking of cell surface receptors. Here, we introduce Macropinocytosis-Targeting Chimeras (MapTACs), a TPD platform that exploit

Current standards for the objective assessment and management of posterior cruciate ligament tears: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is the primary restraint to posterior tibial translation (PTT) and injury typically occurs during knee flexion when an external force to the tibia causes PTT. PCL injuries are often overlooked and require a comprehensive exam including a thorough history, physical examination, and imaging. This narrative review aims to review the literature on objective assessments and management of PCL tears. METHODS: A narrative review of PubMed and SCOPUS-indexed relevant literature (no date restrictions, English only, up to October 2025). Stu

Kinematic Alignment Versus Mechanical Alignment in Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review of Mid-term Functional Outcomes.

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is frequently performed for advanced knee osteoarthritis. Mechanical alignment (MA) targets restoration of a neutral limb axis, whereas kinematic alignment (KA) aims to reproduce an individual's native pre-arthritic knee alignment. This systematic review evaluates comparative mid-term outcomes (≥2 years) following KA and MA in primary TKA. Electronic searches of MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase, and Cochrane CENTRAL were undertaken, with additional screening of Google Scholar. Following duplicate removal and eligibility assessment, 16 primary comparative studies were incl

A retrospective study of pediatric rheumatology referrals reveals large discrepancies in referring providers' musculoskeletal exams.

BACKGROUND: Children with inflammatory arthritis face delayed access to care, partially because of a critical provider shortage. This may be further compounded by referrals for joint pain without associated joint swelling. This study aims to investigate referring providers’ chief concern (CC) and musculoskeletal (MSK) exams against pediatric rheumatologists’ final diagnoses (FDx) and MSK exams, hypothesizing that referrals for joint pain would be less likely to be juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). METHODS: A single-center retrospective study from January 2020 to December 2021 analyzed pedia
