OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA) for coxarthrosis due to dysplasia with acetabular reconstruction of an uncemented cup in conjunction with a femoral head autograft.
METHODS: A retrospective study was made on 21 hips in 20 patients (18 female and 2 male; average age, 50 years) with developmental hip dysplasia treated by THA with use of an uncemented cup. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of Zweymuller prothesis in replacing osteoarthritis secondary to congenital dysplasia of the hip.
METHODS: From January 1996 to June 2000, Zweymuller prothesis was used to reconstruct 32 hips in 29 patients with congenital acetabular dysplasia(3 bilateral cases). All patients were female. According to the classification of Perner, 19 hips belonged to type I, 7 type II, 5 type III, and 1 type IV. The mean follow-up period was 27.5 months (6-53 months). The preoperative Harris hip score ranged from 25 to 59(average 44.5).

Between 1969 and 1987, 30 shelf arthroplasties were performed in 28 patients for the treatment of dysplasia and dysplastic arthrosis of the hip in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University Hospital of Groningen. Twenty-two patients, of whom 2 were treated bilaterally, were free of complaints after a mean follow-up period of 7.25 years (2-20 years). A brother and sister with spondylo-epiphyseal dysplasia tarda developed severe premature osteoarthritis of the hips and were treated with bilateral hip replacement in young adult life. Between 1971 and 1974 we resected 16 femoral heads in 14 patients and followed the results after 6-9 years. The first 100 cases of the 135 THARIES surface replacement procedures with 4--32 months follow-up, are evaluated in terms of clinical results, radiographic information and complications.
