[Coxa valga in childhood. Does it need treatment? (author's transl)].

Coxa valga in a child is not necessarily a pathological condition which needs treatment as long as the acetabulum shows adequate development for the patients age and constitution. Varus osteotomy is not indicated in these cases and may even result in poor development of the hip following operation. The author demonstrates a case in which fracture of the femoral neck on one side healed in varus position. Varus osteotomy was subsequently done on the other side to equalize both hips. This resulted in extreme valgus position and narrowing of the joint space of both hips at puberty. The neck-shaft

Intertrochanteric osteotomy for degenerative hip disease. Indications.

A retrospective study was carried out to determine what were the features of either success or failure of intertrochanteric osteotomy of the hip for degenerative hip disease. Seventy-three patients (78 hips) were reviewed clinically and roentgenographically with a follow-up of two to 12 years. The hips were classified into the superior, medial and intermediate types of the primary degenerative hip disease and into the dysplastic and coxa magna variety for the secondary degenerative hip disease and then further classified into Stage I and Stage II. Stage I was defined by the roentgenographic cr

Studies in osteoarthritis of the hip. 3. Congenital subluxation and osteoarthritis of the hip.

Although congenital subluxation of the hip is an important primary abnormality, upon which OA hip may later supervene, other factors may also be important in individual patients. When osteoarthritis is seen with subluxation, it probably represents congenital subluxation and not displacement of the femoral head secondary to remodelling. Osteoarthritis in these cases is usually superolateral or supermedial in type, with the major impact of the disease in the superior articular cartilage. A similar form of osteoarthritis is seen in cases where leg-length disparity exists, with or without the pres
