Dough Rheology, Physico-Chemical, and Sensory Properties of Bread From Wheat/Fresh Green Mature Banana Puree Composite.

Wondering whether fresh green mature bananas could be used for supplementation of resistant starch and dietary fiber in bakery products, our study set out to evaluate the effect of partial substitution of wheat flour with different forms of banana (fresh whole fingers, fresh pulp, whole finger flour, and pulp flour) on dough rheology, physico-chemical and sensory properties of bread. A hybrid banana variety, N23 was selected for the study. Wheat-banana composite (70:30%, w/w) bread was formulated using 210 g wheat flour, 90 g banana, 1000 mL water, 120 g sugar, 4.0 g yeast and 3.0 g salt and a

All-in-One sensation-actuation integrated soft devices for bioinspired active tactile perception.

In living organisms, sensing and actuation processes are inherently integrated, forming the foundation for autonomous control and active interaction with the surrounding environment. By contrast, in most existing artificial device systems, sensors and actuators operate as separate functional units, lacking seamless architectural and mechanical integration. Herein, we present an all-in-one sensation-actuation integrated soft device capable of active exploration and tactile hardness evaluation. Enabled by a hollow bilayer architecture, the somatosensory actuator achieves enhanced thermal actuati

Modified non-transarticular K-wire external fixation versus traditional transarticular pinning for bony mallet finger: a prospective comparative cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Traditional transarticular distal interphalangeal joint (DIPJ) pinning for bony mallet fingers risks stiffness and iatrogenic cartilage injury. This study compared a modified non-transarticular K-wire external fixator with traditional transarticular pinning for surgically treated bony mallet finger. METHODS: This single-center prospective nonrandomized comparative cohort study included 120 adults with acute bony mallet finger. Sixty patients underwent traditional transarticular DIPJ pinning, and 60 underwent modified non-transarticular K-wire external fixation. The primary outcome

An integrated chemical and biomarker approach using Ucides cordatus (Crustacea; Decapoda) to assess trace element contamination and its biological impacts across two Amazonian estuaries.

In this study, an integrated chemical and biomarker approach was applied using the mangrove crab Ucides cordatus to assess trace element contamination and its biological impacts across two distinct Amazonian estuaries. Crabs were collected from São José Bay (A1-minimally impacted) and São Marcos Bay (A2-impacted by port activities) on the Amazon coast of Brazil. Simultaneously with crab sampling, physicochemical parameters and trace element levels in sediment and water samples were assessed. Biometric measurements included cephalothorax length and width, cheliped propodus length and width, mov

Bioinspired Concept Reinforced Superhydrophobic Textile-Based Strain Sensor with Stable Human Motion Monitoring in Air and Water.

Conventional textile-based strain sensors suffer from critical limitations in moisture-rich or aquatic environments due to their inherent hydrophilicity and weak interfacial adhesion between functional coatings and fibers, which severely restrict their practical application for human motion monitoring in amphibious scenarios. Herein, we proposed a bioinspired concept reinforced superhydrophobic textile (BCRST)-based strain sensor via a combined dipping-spraying technique, which integrated a biomimetic copolymer (HE-co-SV) as an adhesive bridge between a superelastic textile substrate and a flu

Relaxation Piezoionic Hydrogel for Self-Powered, Self-Decoupled Monitoring of Finger Rehabilitation.

Hand motor dysfunction involves limited finger flexion and impaired release control, making finger flexion angles and active relaxation ability key metrics for rehabilitation assessment. However, existing flexible electronics quantify deformation amplitude, while deformation rate remains difficult to read out directly. Here, we report a mechanically trained poly(vinyl alcohol)-NaCl hydrogel with the relaxation piezoionic effect for self-powered, self-decoupled monitoring of stress magnitude and acceleration. The hydrogel produces a positive piezoionic voltage above 20 mV during compression and

Temporal synchronization during bilateral foot-tapping and its relationship with gait disturbance in patients with Parkinson's disease.

OBJECTIVE: Previous studies using finger-tapping tasks have shown that patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) exhibit a deficit of temporal processing linked to gait disturbance. In this study, we aimed to investigate abnormalities in lower-limb rhythmic control and their association with freezing of gait in PD using a bilateral foot-tapping task. METHODS: Fifteen patients with PD and 25 healthy controls performed foot-tapping tasks synchronized with auditory tones at fixed intervals (500-2,400 ms). The tasks included unilateral and bilateral foot-tapping, with bilateral movements performed e

Clinical Outcomes of Semi-Occlusive Dressing for Allen Type III Fingertip Injuries.

Background/Objectives: Local flap coverage is still widely regarded as the treatment of choice for Allen type III fingertip injuries, and outcome data for conservative treatment remain limited. We evaluated the outcomes of semi-occlusive dressing for Allen type III fingertip injuries with bone exposure. Methods: This retrospective single-centre case series included 15 patients with 17 digits sustaining Allen type III fingertip injuries with exposed bone treated with semi-occlusive dressing. Allen type I or II injuries, isolated pulp defects, infection-related tissue loss and incomplete follow-

[Cervical Lesions or Peripheral Nerve Disorders? How Far Can Neurological Examination Localize the Lesion?].

Accurate lesion localization is a fundamental component of neurological diagnosis. This review describes how neurological examination can be used to differentiate cervical spinal cord lesions, cervical radiculopathy, brachial plexopathy, and peripheral nerve disorders in patients presenting with upper-limb sensory and motor symptoms. Particular attention is given to the distribution of sensory impairment, tendon reflex abnormalities, and patterns of muscle weakness. The characteristic clinical features of cervical spondylotic myelopathy, cervical radiculopathy, brachial plexus disorders, and e

Holt-Oram syndrome presenting with failure to thrive due to a hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus: the importance of early cardiac evaluation in infants with radial ray abnormalities.

BACKGROUND: Holt-Oram syndrome (HOS) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the TBX5 gene and characterized by radial ray malformations associated with congenital heart defects and/or cardiac conduction abnormalities. Although atrial and ventricular septal defects are the most common cardiac manifestations, other congenital cardiac lesions may occur. Early recognition of cardiac involvement is essential to prevent complications and improve outcomes. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of an 8-month-old female infant presenting with failure to thrive, feeding

Cell cycle arrest of a craniofacial epithelial population shapes faces in mice and humans.

The mechanisms that shape human facial features and lead to abnormalities if disrupted are complex and multilayered. Orofacial clefting (OFC), the most common craniofacial disorder, results from a failed fusion of facial prominences, partly driven by persisting of cephalic epithelia. Here, we characterize an epithelial cell population, the zippering lambda (ZL), which is cell cycle-arrested and mediates facial prominence fusion in mice and humans. We find uninhibited cell cycle progression in the ZL of Pbx1/2 and p63 mutant mice with OFC. A comparison of ZL-enriched genes with human OFC whole-

To Walk or Not? A Prospective, Randomised Controlled Trial to Evaluate the Effect of Weightbearing on Patient Outcomes Following First Metatarsophalangeal Joint Fusion.

BACKGROUND: First metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint arthrodesis is the gold standard surgical treatment of hallux rigidus and severe hallux valgus with osteoarthritis after failed nonoperative management. Despite its common use, postoperative weightbearing protocols vary considerably. To date, no prospective randomised controlled trials have directly compared outcomes between immediate weightbearing as tolerated (WBAT) and non-weightbearing (NWB) using modern fixation techniques. This study aimed to evaluate whether immediate WBAT following first metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis leads to di

The wandering lens: Clear Lens in the anterior chamber following blunt trauma.

Ocular trauma is a common cause of visual morbidity and can lead to various anterior and posterior segment complications. Traumatic dislocation of the crystalline lens in toto into the anterior chamber without open globe injury is a rare entity. We report a 27-year-old male who presented after blunt trauma from a wooden door with sudden visual loss in the right eye. Best-corrected visual acuity was counting fingers at 1 metre. Slit-lamp examination revealed a clear crystalline lens completely dislocated into the anterior chamber with a clear cornea, well-formed anterior chamber, round pupil an
