Evaluation of Functional Outcome of Extended Flexor Carpi Radialis Approach for Fracture Fixation of Distal End Radius Fracture.

INTRODUCTION: Intra-articular distal radius fractures require accurate anatomical reduction, articular congruity, and stable fixation to restore wrist function and preserve biomechanics. The extended flexor carpi radialis (eFCR) approach provides extensile exposure for complex fracture patterns. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This prospective observational study included 30 adults with closed intra-articular fractures treated by open reduction and internal fixation through the eFCR approach with volar locking plate fixation from April 2024 to June 2025. Functional outcome was assessed by disabilities

Epidemiology of Match-Related Injury Events in French Handball: A One-Season Nationwide Cohort Study Across 323 628 Players.

Nationwide data on match-related injuries in handball remain limited. This study described injury-event epidemiology during one French handball season and examined injury patterns according to sex, age, competition level, and timing within the season. This nationwide cohort study included all licensed players participating in official championship matches. An injury event was operationally defined as any physical complaint occurring during a match, including warm-up, and recorded in the electronic match report, irrespective of medical attention or time loss. Seasonal prevalence of players with

A Step-by-Step Protocol for Manual Reduction and Splint Immobilization of Distal Radius Fractures.

Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are among the most common upper extremity fractures encountered in clinical practice. Closed reduction followed by external immobilization remains a fundamental treatment approach; however, the procedure is highly operator-dependent and lacks standardization. This article presents a step-by-step protocol for manual reduction and four-splint immobilization using volar, dorsal, radial, and ulnar splints for acute DRFs. The protocol encompasses patient selection, anesthesia administration, patient positioning, sustained longitudinal traction with countertraction, re

[A Proof-of-Concept Study of Intelligent Chinese Medicine Splint for Distal Radius Fracture].

Distal radius fracture (DRF) usually adopts static fixation method, which often leads to complications such as abnormal fracture healing and pressure injury. The reason lies in the lack of real-time regulation of fixed pressure and biomechanical feedback, which affects the functional recovery. Our team designed an intelligent and adaptive orthopedic equipment. Based on the patient's personalized three-dimensional (3D) printing architecture, the equipment system realizes light and accurate adaptation, and embeds a series of thin film pressure sensors in key anatomical parts to continuously quan

Development of an efficient deep learning model for arrhythmia detection from consumer smartwatches.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiac arrhythmias often progress without clear symptoms and may remain undetected until severe complications occur. Continuous monitoring through consumer smartwatches offers a scalable and non-invasive opportunity for real-time rhythm screening in free-living conditions. However, wrist-based photoplethysmography (PPG) signals are highly susceptible to motion artifacts and inter-subject variability, limiting traditional signal-processing techniques. In this work, we compare classical machine learning and deep learning approaches for multi-class arrhythmia classification from re

Personal VOC exposure in a multi-source open-air mass gathering environment: An integrated passive air and biomonitoring study.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are ubiquitous air pollutants emitted from diverse everyday sources and are public health concerns. University festivals attract thousands of participants and constitute fully open-air environments with diverse emission sources, including crowd-related dust, stage effects, and cooking activities. However, studies assessing personal VOC exposure in such multi-source festival settings remain limited. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate personal VOC exposure in a fully open-air, multi-source university festival by integrating personal air sampling with urinar

Digital three-dimensional planning combined with 3D-printed patient-specific guide-assisted step-cut osteotomy for correction of old cubitus varus deformity: a case report.

Cubitus varus is the most common long-term complication following supracondylar humeral fractures. Although traditional step-cut osteotomy yields reliable clinical outcomes, the intraoperative osteotomy direction and angle remain largely dependent on the surgeon's experience, resulting in suboptimal precision. Although digital three-dimensional (3D) planning and 3D-printed patient-specific guides have been shown to improve osteotomy accuracy, their application in adolescent patients with long-standing cubitus varus deformity has rarely been reported. We report an 18-year-old male patient who d

Outcomes of simultaneous microsurgical replantation of complete amputations at the distal third of the right forearm and left wrist: a case report and 22-month follow-up.

Microsurgical replantation of simultaneous bilateral upper extremity amputations is a complex procedure requiring a highly coordinated multidisciplinary team. Functional outcomes depend on anatomical level of injury, duration of ischemia, extent of crushing, degree of contamination, and quality of postoperative rehabilitation. We report a 45-year-old male industrial worker who sustained complete simultaneous amputations through the distal third of the right forearm and at the left wrist following an industrial paper-cutting machine accident. Total ischemia time was 8 h. Two microsurgical teams

Flap Reconstruction for Deep Hand Burns: A Case Series.

Introduction Deep hand burns are severe injuries that frequently result in exposure of tendons and bone because of the thin subcutaneous tissue of the hand. In such cases, skin grafting alone is often insufficient, and flap reconstruction is required. Heat-press injuries are particularly challenging because combined thermal and crush mechanisms make tissue viability difficult to evaluate. The optimal timing of debridement and reconstruction also remains controversial. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of six patients (six hands) with acute deep hand burns distal to the wr

Simulation-Based Corrective Osteotomy with Predicted Postoperative Forearm Rotation for Distal Radioulnar Joint Instability.

Background: Distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability associated with forearm bone deformity is difficult to treat because residual osseous malalignment may impair forearm rotation even after triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) reconstruction. This study evaluated the clinical usefulness of preoperative three-dimensional (3D) computer simulation and patient-matched instruments (PMIs) for corrective osteotomy in deformity-related DRUJ instability. Methods: Three patients with chronic DRUJ instability associated with forearm bone deformity underwent corrective osteotomy based on 3D compute

A Simple Slotted Guide for Instrument Passage in Wrist Arthroscopy.

Wrist arthroscopy is increasingly used for the diagnosis and treatment of wrist pathology. However, the limited joint space and small arthroscopic portals make repeated insertion of instruments challenging and may result in soft-tissue trauma or creation of a false passage. Commercially available cannulas are generally unsuitable for wrist arthroscopy. We describe a simple technique using a segment of tubing from a disposable intravenous infusion set. A longitudinal slot is created in the tube, which is passed through the wrist joint to form a ring-shaped guide between two arthroscopic portals
