Distal Scaphoid Resection with Suspensionplasty Using the Mini-TightRopeTM for Scaphotrapeziotrapezoid Osteoarthritis: A Case Series.

Background: Distal scaphoid resection (DSR) with suspensionplasty using the Mini-TightRope™ has not previously been reported for isolated scaphotrapeziotrapezoid (STT) osteoarthritis. The aim of this study is to report outcomes of DSR using the Mini-TightRope™ for STT arthritis. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated four female patients (four wrists; mean age: 71 years) who underwent this procedure between 2018 and 2020, with a mean follow-up of 72 months. Clinical and radiographic outcomes, including pain (visual analogue scale [VAS]), grip strength, DASH-JSSH scores, trapezial subsidence and

Digital three-dimensional planning combined with 3D-printed patient-specific guide-assisted step-cut osteotomy for correction of old cubitus varus deformity: a case report.

Cubitus varus is the most common long-term complication following supracondylar humeral fractures. Although traditional step-cut osteotomy yields reliable clinical outcomes, the intraoperative osteotomy direction and angle remain largely dependent on the surgeon's experience, resulting in suboptimal precision. Although digital three-dimensional (3D) planning and 3D-printed patient-specific guides have been shown to improve osteotomy accuracy, their application in adolescent patients with long-standing cubitus varus deformity has rarely been reported. We report an 18-year-old male patient who d

Outcomes of simultaneous microsurgical replantation of complete amputations at the distal third of the right forearm and left wrist: a case report and 22-month follow-up.

Microsurgical replantation of simultaneous bilateral upper extremity amputations is a complex procedure requiring a highly coordinated multidisciplinary team. Functional outcomes depend on anatomical level of injury, duration of ischemia, extent of crushing, degree of contamination, and quality of postoperative rehabilitation. We report a 45-year-old male industrial worker who sustained complete simultaneous amputations through the distal third of the right forearm and at the left wrist following an industrial paper-cutting machine accident. Total ischemia time was 8 h. Two microsurgical teams

Flap Reconstruction for Deep Hand Burns: A Case Series.

Introduction Deep hand burns are severe injuries that frequently result in exposure of tendons and bone because of the thin subcutaneous tissue of the hand. In such cases, skin grafting alone is often insufficient, and flap reconstruction is required. Heat-press injuries are particularly challenging because combined thermal and crush mechanisms make tissue viability difficult to evaluate. The optimal timing of debridement and reconstruction also remains controversial. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of six patients (six hands) with acute deep hand burns distal to the wr

Outcomes of Tendon Graft Versus Dorsal Capsulodesis Techniques for Chronic Scapholunate Ligament Injury in Adults: A Systematic Review.

PURPOSE: Chronic scapholunate interosseous ligament injuries contribute significantly to wrist instability. Surgical management remains challenging, with tendon graft-based reconstruction and dorsal capsulodesis being the most common techniques. This systematic review aimed to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of capsulodesis-based versus tendon graft techniques for chronic scapholunate ligament injuries. METHODS: This systematic review was conducted per Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Web o

Simulation-Based Corrective Osteotomy with Predicted Postoperative Forearm Rotation for Distal Radioulnar Joint Instability.

Background: Distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability associated with forearm bone deformity is difficult to treat because residual osseous malalignment may impair forearm rotation even after triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) reconstruction. This study evaluated the clinical usefulness of preoperative three-dimensional (3D) computer simulation and patient-matched instruments (PMIs) for corrective osteotomy in deformity-related DRUJ instability. Methods: Three patients with chronic DRUJ instability associated with forearm bone deformity underwent corrective osteotomy based on 3D compute

A Simple Slotted Guide for Instrument Passage in Wrist Arthroscopy.

Wrist arthroscopy is increasingly used for the diagnosis and treatment of wrist pathology. However, the limited joint space and small arthroscopic portals make repeated insertion of instruments challenging and may result in soft-tissue trauma or creation of a false passage. Commercially available cannulas are generally unsuitable for wrist arthroscopy. We describe a simple technique using a segment of tubing from a disposable intravenous infusion set. A longitudinal slot is created in the tube, which is passed through the wrist joint to form a ring-shaped guide between two arthroscopic portals

Individual and Task-Specific Variability in Violin-Playing Kinematics Among Professional and Amateur Performers: A Pilot Motion-Capture Study.

Background Violin performance requires coordinated multi-joint and postural control, and performers may adopt different movement strategies. This pilot study primarily described participant-level heterogeneity and task-specific kinematic patterns in professional and amateur violinists, with secondary exploratory screening for nonoverlapping group ranges. Methods Six violinists (three professional and three amateur) were assessed using a 16-camera Vicon motion-capture system (Vicon Motion Systems Ltd., Oxford, UK) during a standardized phase using the same violin, bow, and shoulder rest. Cushing's syndrome is associated with an advanced chronotype.

Cushing's syndrome is characterised by chronic glucocorticoid excess that abolishes the physiological circadian cortisol rhythm. We investigated whether this circadian disruption alters chronotype. In a single-centre case-control study, chronotype was assessed using the Munich ChronoType Questionnaire (MCTQ; n = 119) and wrist actigraphy (n = 39) in patients with active Cushing's syndrome, patients in biochemical remission, and healthy controls. The primary outcome was mid-sleep on free days corrected for sleep debt (MSFsc). Multivariable analysis was performed to identify independent predicto

Association of Early Stepwise Rehabilitation Nursing with Wrist Function and Pain Outcomes After Wrist Arthroscopy: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Wrist arthroscopy is widely used as a minimally invasive treatment for wrist disorders. Postoperative rehabilitation is an important component of functional recovery. Conventional rehabilitation often follows a relatively uniform schedule and relies primarily on pharmacological pain management; consequently, stage-specific and individual needs may not be fully addressed. This single-center retrospective cohort analysis compared observed postoperative outcomes between patients receiving early stepwise rehabilitation care and those receiving the traditional rehabilitation model. The intervention

Associations Between Transdermal Alcohol Concentration Features Derived From a Wrist-Worn Sensor and Subjective Response to Alcohol Assessed via Ecological Momentary Assessment.

BACKGROUND: There is a growing interest in the use of reliable, accurate, and user-friendly wearable biosensors to measure alcohol consumption in naturalistic environments. Growing evidence has shown that the BACtrack Skyn, a wrist-worn alcohol biosensor, can reliably measure alcohol consumption in these settings. However, little is known regarding the utility of Skyn features in predicting real-time subjective response to alcohol. This study examined associations between Skyn transdermal alcohol concentration (TAC) features and both self-reported alcohol consumption and subjective response as

X-linked hypophosphataemia diagnosed in adulthood with coexisting seronegative rheumatoid arthritis: a diagnostic pitfall.

INTRODUCTION: X-linked hypophosphataemia (XLH) is the most common inherited cause of renal phosphate wasting, typically diagnosed in childhood but occasionally identified in adulthood. CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 45-year-old woman with long-standing lower limb deformities, short stature, and diffuse joint pain. Laboratory evaluation revealed hypophosphataemia due to isolated renal phosphate wasting. Fibroblast growth factor 23 levels were markedly elevated. Imaging showed skeletal deformities and enthesopathic changes consistent with chronic XLH. Genetic testing identified a pathogenic

Proton-density fat-saturated non-contrast MR imaging is comparable to post-contrast MR imaging for revealing wrist synovitis.

OBJECTIVES: Standard MR imaging (MRI) for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients comprises a post-contrast T1-fat-saturated (T1FS + C) sequence to detect wrist synovitis and tenosynovitis. This study investigates whether non-contrast sequences can provide similar information to post-contrast imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-seven RA patients (F/M:  64/13; age: 61 ± 12 years) underwent MRI examination of the most symptomatic wrist on a 3.0-T system. Axial T1FS + C as well as proton-density imaging with fat-saturation (PDFS) and T2-weighted imaging with fat-saturation (T2FS) sequences were p

Complex presentation of neonatal arthrogryposis multiplex congenita: insights into a multifactorial disorder.

This case report details a neonate diagnosed with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC), specifically the amyoplasia subtype, presenting with bilateral talipes equinovarus, elbow contractures, ulnar deviation of the wrists and clinodactyly. Additional clinical findings included mild developmental dysplasia of the hips and a small atrial septal defect. Genetic analysis revealed heterozygous variants of uncertain significance in the SYNE1 and CHD4 genes, both of which were inherited from asymptomatic parents. While SYNE1 is associated with autosomal recessive AMC type 3 and CHD4 with Sifrim-H

[Special surgical anatomy and pathology of the 6th extensor compartment of the wrist and reconstruction of extensor carpi ulnas dislocations].

The article describes the special surgical anatomy of the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon (ECU) and the sixth extensor compartment, including the most common pathological conditions. The sixth extensor compartment is only loosely covered and not connected by the extensor retinaculum. The ECU has its own retinaculum at the ulnar head, for which the Latin name "retinaculum privatum" (English: subsheath) is proposed. Dislocation of the extensor tendon (ECU), first described by Schlesinger in 1907, can be treated using various techniques for reconstructing the retinaculum privatum (from the extensor
