A new model based on multi-axis vision transformer for chondromalacia patella diagnosis in magnetic resonance scans.

A degenerative disease of the patellofemoral joint cartilage, chondromalacia patella (CMP) often results in anterior knee discomfort and functional disability. Determining the best course of therapy and stopping the progression of the disease depend on an accurate and timely diagnosis. In this work, we provide a deep learning architecture based on transformers for the classification of chondromalacia patella using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. We assessed transformer-based designs including Multi-Axis Vision Transformer (MaxViT), Vision Transformer (ViT), and Swin Transformer in addit

Assessing the Impact of Myofascial Release Versus Dry Needling for Chondromalacia in Adult Females: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Chondromalacia patellae is a common cause of anterior knee pain in adult females and is associated with patellofemoral pain syndrome. Conservative management focuses on pain reduction and restoration of muscle function; however, limited evidence directly compares the effectiveness of myofascial release (MFR) and dry needling (DN). HYPOTHESIS: Both MFR and DN would reduce pain and improve quadriceps function, with MFR producing greater improvements in neuromuscular performance. STUDY DESIGN: Randomized controlled clinical trial. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 2. METHODS: Adult females

Pediatric Patellar Injuries.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric patellar injuries are common causes of anterior knee pain in children and adolescents and are frequently encountered in emergency and acute care settings. These conditions range from load-related overuse syndromes to acute traumatic injuries requiring timely recognition and referral. Unique features of the skeletally immature knee, including evolving ossification centers, open physes, and cartilaginous structures, may complicate diagnosis and contribute to missed or delayed recognition. OBJECTIVE: This review provides an evidence-informed, emergency medicine-oriented app

Comparative analysis of isokinetic parameters in individuals with and without chondromalacia patellae.

INTRODUCTION: Chondromalacia patella (CMP) is characterizsed by cartilage degeneration, affects young adults, more women (2:1) and is responsible for 75% of knee pain complaints in the active population. The etiology is multifactorial and may be related to extrinsic factors (trauma and burden) and intrinsic factors (patellar malalignment and quadriceps weakness). Isokinetic dynamometry (ID) can aid in the detection of the causal factors of knee pain related to CMP. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate and compare the parameters of the ID of individuals with and without CMP and correlate them with the clin

Influence of infrapatellar fat pad size on the development and severity of chondromalacia patella.

The inflammatory role of the infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) in cartilage damage has been well-documented, yet its potential protective function as a shock absorber remains underexplored. This retrospective cohort study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the IPFP size and chondromalacia patella (CP), while also examining the effects of age, sex, and body mass index (BMI). Magnetic resonance imaging scans from 311 patients aged 40 to 65 years were retrospectively analyzed. Axial sequences classified CP severity, and sagittal sequences measured IPFP areas. CP was graded according to the Int

The Role of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in the Treatment of Patellofemoral Arthritis and Anterior Knee Pain: A Systematic Review.

Patellofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) and chondromalacia patellae (CMP) are common and disabling conditions that significantly affect physical performance and quality of life. Despite the great deal of scientific research on the subject, there is limited evidence regarding the outcome of nonoperative interventional procedures. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has demonstrated positive results for tibiofemoral knee osteoarthritis, but its role in anterior knee pain (AKP) remains unclear. The aim of this study was to review the evidence on the efficacy (clinical and radiological) and safety of PRP in pat
