Data-Driven Characterization of Knee Structures Using Non-Negative Matrix Factorization of 3D Multi-Echo UTE MRI.

T2* quantification based on multi-echo ultrashort echo time (UTE) MRI has been widely proposed for knee tissue characterization, yet accurate model-based parameter estimation remains challenging due to ill-conditioning of the corresponding inverse problems. Alternatively, data-driven methods such as non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) can derive tissue features without relying on biophysical model assumptions. This study aimed to investigate the use of an NMF-based framework informed by 3D multi-echo UTE MRI for multi-compartmental analysis of healthy and impaired knee structures. To this

Diagnostic Efficacy of Fat-Suppressed 3D Volume Isotropic Turbo Spin-Echo Acquisition Imaging Versus Conventional 2D Sequences in the Detection of Cruciate and Meniscal Tears Using a 3-Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner: A Comparative Study.

Introduction Accurate and early detection of internal derangements of the knee, such as tears of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), and menisci, is essential for guiding treatment. Fat-suppressed (FS) three-dimensional (3D) volume isotropic turbo spin echo acquisition (VISTA) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides isotropic spatial resolution and high-quality multiplanar reformations, which may offer diagnostic advantages over conventional two-dimensional (2D) fast spin-echo (FSE) sequences. We hypothesized that FS 3D VISTA would demonstrate improved di

Review of Meniscus Anatomy and Biomechanics.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Anatomic repair of meniscal pathology is critical for restoring native joint biomechanics and kinematics for patients who suffer from meniscal tears. The purpose of this review was to summarize the pertinent anatomy, biomechanics, and kinematics of the meniscus to guide surgeons during meniscal repair procedures. RECENT FINDINGS: Over the past decade, there has been a growing trend to save the meniscus whenever possible. The goal of repair should be to recreate native anatomy as close as possible to recapitulate normal mechanics. Studies describing the quantitative and qual
