Loose body migrated into the rotator cuff in synovial chondromatosis: a case report.

We describe a rare case of synovial chondromatosis in the subacromial bursa that led to rotator cuff damage and progressive glenohumeral osteoarthritis. A 66-year-old woman initially presented with shoulder pain and limited motion, and imaging revealed a loose body in the subacromial bursa and partial-thickness rotator cuff tear. Conservative treatment was initially effective, but symptoms recurred after migration of the loose body into the rotator cuff. Arthroscopic removal and partial synovectomy were performed, resulting in symptom relief. Histology confirmed benign osteochondroma. This cas

Ishiguro technique percutaneous metallic bone needle closed reduction for Judet IV radial head fractures in children: A case report (CARE-compliant).

RATIONALE: Fractures of the radial head in children constitute 5% to 17% of all elbow fractures and 1% of all pediatric fractures. As intra-articular injuries they pose significant challenges due to the high risk of loose body formation and ischemic necrosis, which can lead to long-term joint dysfunction and reduced quality of life. Although advances have been made in pediatric orthopedic surgery, developing minimally invasive and effective treatment strategies remains a crucial research focus for optimizing functional recovery and reducing complications. PATIENT CONCERNS: An 8-year-old femal

Arthroscopic Management of Posterior Elbow Impingement.

BACKGROUND: Posterior elbow impingement is often seen in athletes who engage in overhead sports that involve repetitive elbow extension; for these patients with persistent symptoms, arthroscopic debridement is often recommended. While traditionally performed in the supine or prone position, arthroscopic elbow debridement performed in the lateral decubitus position has distinct advantages that make it our preferred method. INDICATIONS: Arthroscopic debridement in the context of posterior elbow impingement is utilized when conservative management with rest, physical therapy, and nonsteroidal an

Residual articular incongruity is not a predictor of poor functional outcomes in operatively treated intra-articular elbow fractures.

BACKGROUND: Intra-articular and comminuted elbow fractures are complex injuries that present a tremendous surgical challenge. The goal of surgical fracture reduction is an anatomical restoration of the articular surface to restore physiological biomechanics of the elbow joint and to regain an unrestricted elbow function. However, these fractures are often accompanied by residual articular step-off, gap displacement, and intra-articular loose bodies. To date, the potential correlation between the quality of fracture reduction and the postoperative functional outcomes has not been investigated f

Evaluation of Temporomandibular Joint Structures and Conditions Using Dental-Dedicated MRI: A Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: MRI is the most viable alternative to depict the soft tissues of the TMJ, and a recently developed dental-dedicated MRI (ddMRI) brings new possibilities to count on this technology at point-of-care. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the feasibility of ddMRI for the assessment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) conditions and to compare the evaluation of bony components with that of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODS: CBCT and ddMRI images from 24 patients were independently assessed by three observers. Each TMJ side was evaluated for hard and soft tissue conditions (soft tissues a

Simultaneous Bilateral Total Knee Replacement for Autofusion Secondary to Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Synovial chondromatosis (SC) is a rare, benign metaplastic disorder of the synovial membrane that typically presents with joint pain, swelling, and mechanical symptoms. Although the knee is the most frequently involved joint, diagnosis can be challenging in early or atypical cases, particularly when classical calcifications are absent on imaging. CASE REPORT: We present the case of a young adult male with a 1-year history of insidious onset posterior knee pain, without any antecedent trauma. Clinical examination revealed a full range of motion with no joint instability. Radiogra

Ligamentum Teres Avulsion Fracture and Posterior Labral Tear After a Pediatric Hip Dislocation: A Case Report.

CASE: A 13-year-old adolescent girl presented with right hip pain and restricted motion, 3 days following closed reduction of post-traumatic hip dislocation. Initial radiograph looked innocuous. A computed tomography scan was performed due to persistent pain, revealed a bony ligamentum teres (LT) avulsion fragment incarcerated within the hip joint. The fragment was excised through a safe surgical dislocation, and an intraoperatively discovered posterior labral tear was repaired. The patient is asymptomatic at 2-year follow-up. CONCLUSION: This is a rare case of pediatric LT bony avulsion. Cro

Aebp1 loss in osteoprogenitors leads to skeletal defects resembling Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome by diminishing Wnt/β-catenin signaling.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Classic-Like, 2 (clEDS2) is a rare genetic disorder caused by biallelic mutations in the AEBP1 gene, which encodes aortic carboxypeptidase-like protein (ACLP). Patients with clEDS2 exhibit hallmark features such as loose connective tissues, osteoporosis, and scoliosis. Despite its clinical significance, the molecular mechanisms underlying AEBP1 mutations in skeletal development remain poorly understood, and effective therapeutic strategies are currently unavailable. Here, using OsxCre conditional KO mice, we show that Aebp1 deletion in osteoprogenitors reduces body size

Efficient Extraction of Synovial Chondromatosis Utilizing the Loose Body Vacuum.

BACKGROUND: Synovial chondromatosis is a benign proliferation of the synovial membranes surrounding joints and tendon sheaths that may cause serious joint instability and dysfunction. If left untreated, loose bodies generated within the joint can lead to accelerated joint destruction. Arthroscopic synovectomy with loose body removal has been recommended in certain cases to limit the rate of recurrence. Past techniques have utilized suction as well as manual removal of larger loose bodies. INDICATIONS: The patient had extensive right hip synovial chondromatosis as well as femoral acetabular im

The role of interfacial protein composition in the stability of soybean oil bodies: Elucidating the mechanism of protein-lipid co-oxidation under different extraction conditions.

Oil bodies (OBs), natural lipid-storage organelles, are typically co-extracted with storage proteins during aqueous processing, which significantly govern their stability. Different washing treatments (heating, GuHCl, urea, SDS) were used to prepare OBs with varied interfacial proteins for studying oxidation mechanisms at 40 °C/75 % RH. Physicochemical characterization revealed that GuHCl-treated OBs developed a three-peak particle size distribution and the lowest ζ-potential (-6.35 mV) after oxidation, while urea-treated OBs maintained greater colloidal stability. During the storage process,

Popliteal Arteriovenous Fistula: A Rare Complication of Knee Arthroscopy.

Arthroscopic surgery, especially of the knee, is a minimally invasive procedure with low rates of complications. Rarely, this procedure can be associated with traumatic arteriovenous fistula (AVF) formation secondary to popliteal arterial injury. Here, we present the case report of a 33-year-old woman with symptomatic iatrogenic popliteal arteriovenous fistula formation following right knee arthroscopy. The patient has a 10-year history of left knee pain secondary to an unspecified knee injury. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed loose bodies within the knee joint and a medial meniscal t

Meniscal Transplant using Autologous Semitendinosus Tendon Leads to Clinically Meaningful Quality of Life Improvement: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: The detrimental consequences of untreated meniscal tears or total meniscectomy, including impaired rotatory stability, increased sagittal laxity, and accelerated cartilage degeneration, are well documented, even though meniscectomy is still the most commonly performed procedure. Meniscus allograft transplantation remains the gold standard for meniscal substitution; however, its limited availability highlights the need for safe and effective autologous alternatives. Emerging evidence supports the use of autologous tendon grafts, particularly the semitendinosus tendon, as promising b

Osteochondritis Dissecans of the Capitellum in the Young Athlete.

Osteochondritis dissecans of the capitellum is an uncommon but notable cause of elbow pain in the young athlete. Although the exact pathogenesis of this condition is not completely understood, repetitive microtrauma, such as in throwing athletes or gymnasts, can predispose these groups to developing osteochondral lesions. Patients may present with laterally based elbow pain, swelling, or loss of range of motion. Initial screening radiographs can often detect these lesions, with MRI key to determining the exact lesion size, location, and stability. Treatment depends on multiple factors and may
