In the process of studying the fine specificity of HLA class II molecules, we identified an alloreactive T-cell clone raised to a HLA-Dw14 homozygous cell line that was specifically stimulated by Dw14+ homozygous typing cells but negatively with cells expressing the HLA-Dw4,-Dw10, -Dw13, and -Dw15 subspecificities of DR4. The ability of a manipulative therapist to diagnose symptomatic cervical zygapophysial joint syndromes accurately was evaluated in a series of 20 patients. In 11 patients the presence, or absence, of a symptomatic joint was established by means of radiologically-controlled diagnostic nerve blocks. Results are reported from the first prospective study of gout in New Zealand Maoris based on a sample of 388 males and 378 females.
