Diseases presenting with muscle symptoms are diverse. We report two cases initially suspected of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies that were ultimately diagnosed as polyarteritis nodosa and sarcoidosis, respectively. Case 1 was a 30-year-old man with fever, limb muscle pain, and elevated inflammatory markers. Muscle magnetic resonance imaging showed high signal intensity on fat-suppressed T2-weighted images, and biopsy revealed vasculitis with fibrinoid necrosis, leading to a diagnosis of polyarteritis nodosa. Case 2 was a 70-year-old man with proximal muscle pain and weakness and elevated mu

Retiform purpura (RP) is a morphological pattern of cutaneous ischemia resulting from vascular compromise. Its clinical relevance lies in its orientation toward vasculitis or thrombotic vasculopathy. We report the case of a woman with painful violaceous retiform lesions on the distal lower extremities, Raynaud's phenomenon with a "blue toe" on the hand, and polyarthralgias. Laboratory workup revealed antinuclear antibodies (ANA) 1:2560 (AC-5 pattern), anti-RNP > 240 U/mL, anti-Sm > 320 U/mL, low C4, and negative antineutrophil antibodies (ANCA) and rheumatoid factor. Magnetic resonance imaging

Renal artery inflammation is typically observed as part of systemic vasculitis rather than as an isolated condition. Large vessel vasculitides, such as Takayasu arteritis and giant cell arteritis, as well as polyarteritis nodosa, may involve multiple vessels, including the renal artery. Isolated vasculitis of the renal artery is exceedingly rare with only eight cases reported worldwide. We describe a case of a previously healthy 53-year-old man who presented with a history of right flank pain which was attributed to renal artery vasculitis. Extensive radiologic studies revealed no evidence of

Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a rare systemic necrotizing vasculitis. It affects the medium-sized arteries. It attacks many parts of the body in very different ways. Therefore, it is difficult to diagnose and stage. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET/CT combines anatomic and metabolic activity. This can show the complete extent of the disease in PAN very well. We report a 35-year-old man with fever, generalized myalgia, black stools and dry gangrene at the tip of his fingers. Laboratory tests revealed high C-reactive protein and high erythrocyte sedimentation rate. However, the anti-neutroph

BACKGROUND: Childhood polyarteritis nodosa (cPAN) is a rare systemic necrotizing vasculitis affecting small- and medium-sized arteries. Its heterogeneous clinical manifestations often delay diagnosis, yet early recognition is essential to prevent organ damage. According to the EULAR/PRINTO/PRES criteria, diagnosis requires evidence of necrotizing vasculitis in medium- or small-sized arteries or characteristic clinical features such as skin involvement, myalgia, hypertension, or peripheral neuropathy. This case adds to the limited literature by presenting a severe multisystem form of cPAN in a

INTRODUCTION: Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a rare systemic necrotizing vasculitis affecting medium-sized vessels. While peripheral neuropathy occurs in 50-75% of patients, cranial nerve involvement is exceptionally rare, affecting fewer than 2% of patients. We report a case of PAN presenting with isolated sixth nerve palsy and orbital apex syndrome.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 70-year-old man presented with the acute onset of painful left abducens nerve palsy. His medical history included 3 months of constitutional symptoms, polyarthralgia, unintentional weight loss, and progressive hearing loss. O

Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a rare necrotizing vasculitis of medium-sized arteries presenting with heterogeneous multisystem involvement. Diagnosis is challenging due to the absence of specific biomarkers, frequent anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) negativity, variable early imaging findings, and low diagnostic yield of superficial biopsies. We report the case of a 33-year-old man experiencing a four-month evolution of recurrent inflammatory episodes involving abdominal, neurological, cutaneous, and cardiopulmonary systems. He developed dusky necrotizing vasculitic lesions, monon

Pustulotic arthro-osteitis (PAO) is a chronic inflammatory disorder associated with palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) and characterised by osteoarticular manifestations. Although several immune-mediated comorbidities have been reported in association with PPP/PAO, polyarteritis nodosa occurring in patients with PPP/PAO has not been described previously. We report a case of a 56-year-old woman with a long-standing history of PPP and PAO who developed worsening osteoarticular symptoms in close temporal proximity to purpura, lower-extremity pain, and sensory disturbance, followed by paraesthesia in t

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is associated with both hepatic and extrahepatic complications. While liver-related outcomes are well characterized, the burden, demographic patterns, and survival associated with extrahepatic manifestations (EHMs) remain incompletely defined. This study aimed to evaluate the spectrum, incidence, and survival impact of EHMs in a large, geographically diverse cohort of patients with chronic HBV infection. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX Global Research Network, including 2,32,820 patients aged 0 to 90 years with chronic HBV i

Deficiency of adenosine deaminase 2 (DADA2) is a rare monogenic autoinflammatory vasculopathy characterised by systemic vasculitis, immune dysregulation and haematological abnormalities. We report a man in his 30s who presented with recurrent ischaemic strokes, cytopenias, renal microaneurysms, cardiomyopathy and gastrointestinal involvement. He was initially diagnosed with polyarteritis nodosa and treated with conventional immunosuppression, with poor clinical response. Genetic testing confirmed DADA2, following which infliximab therapy was initiated, resulting in clinical stabilisation and i

Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is an uncommon systemic vasculitis involving predominantly medium-sized arteries. Its heterogeneous presentation and relapsing-remitting course often lead to diagnostic delay. We report a 68-year-old male with a 15-month history of progressive peripheral neuropathy, recurrent vasculitic rash, renal impairment, and testicular pain. Laboratory investigations revealed elevated inflammatory markers, positive rheumatoid factor, type II cryoglobulins, and negative antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA). Complement levels were normal on repeated testing, and urinalysis

Autoimmune diseases frequently involve the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and can present with nonspecific symptoms that delay diagnosis. Their manifestations range from subtle motility disturbances to life-threatening ischemia, perforation, or obstruction. Advances in cross-sectional imaging have reshaped the evaluation of autoimmune and vasculitic diseases, allowing recognition of mural, mesenteric, and vascular signatures that reflect the underlying pathophysiology. Integrating these findings with clinical and serologic data remains essential to narrow differential diagnoses and to guide early

Systemic vasculitis is traditionally classified according to the predominant size of affected vessels; however, phenotypes affecting multiple vascular calibers may not be adequately captured by rigid definitions and require integrated clinicopathological interpretation. Here we report the case of a 70-year-old Caucasian man who presented with persistent systemic inflammation initially suggestive of infection. Although inflammatory markers decreased during antibiotic therapy, residual inflammation persisted, and the subsequent clinical course was characterized by myalgia, pulmonary involvement,

Inflammatory heart diseases include a wide range of clinical entities whose manifestations largely depend on whether the pericardium, myocardium, and/or endocardium are affected by infectious agents or sterile inflammation. Advancements in understanding the inflammatory pathogenesis of pericarditis have led to the successful development of targeted anti-inflammatory therapies. While non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and colchicine remain first-line therapeutic options in those with acute pericarditis, interleukin-1 (IL-1) inhibitors have been recently approved for the treatment of

INTRODUCTION: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) imposes significant challenges, particularly for women, due to psychosocial and cultural factors affecting self-care. Psycho-spiritual interventions integrating psychological and spiritual support show promise in enhancing diabetes management. This randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluated a psycho-spiritual care program's impact on medication adherence, self-management, and glycemic control in women with T2DM. The study addresses a gap in rigorous, gender-specific RCTs for holistic diabetes care.
METHODS: This single-blinded RCT enrolled 140 wo

INTRODUCTION: Almost from the beginning of the HIV epidemic in 1981, an association with tuberculosis (TB) was recognized. This association between HIV and TB co-infection has been particularly evident amongst prisoners. However, despite this, few studies of TB in prisons have stratified results by HIV status. Given the high prevalence of HIV-positive persons and TB-infected persons in prisons and the documented risk of TB in those infected with HIV, it is of interest to determine how co-infection varies amongst prison populations worldwide. For this reason we have undertaken a systematic revi

BACKGROUND: Central nervous system (CNS) involvement in polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is uncommon and typically manifests as ischemic or hemorrhagic events. Presentation as sterile meningitis is rare and may lead to diagnostic delay.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 31-year-old man presented with persistent headache, high - grade fever, and nodular erythema on both calves. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis demonstrated lymphocyte-predominant pleocytosis with elevated protein levels, initially suggesting a viral meningitis-like presentation. Despite empirical antiviral therapy, his symptoms failed to improv

BACKGROUND Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) and Takayasu arteritis (TA) are systemic medium- and large-vessel vasculitides associated with significant morbidity when diagnosis is delayed. Although described in the literature, reports directly demonstrating the impact of diagnostic timing on vascular outcomes remain limited. This report presents 2 rare and contrasting cases highlighting the importance of early recognition with timely vascular and immunosuppressive interventions, which can prevent irreversible ischemic complications, whereas delayed diagnosis can result in permanent structural damage,

Fault-tolerant connectivity labelings are schemes that, given an n-vertex graph G = ( V , E ) and a parameter f, produce succinct yet informative labels for the elements of the graph. Given only the labels of two vertices u, v and of the elements in a faulty-set F with | F | ≤ f , one can determine if u, v are connected in G - F , the surviving graph after removing F. For the edge or vertex faults models, i.e., F ⊆ E or F ⊆ V , a sequence of recent work established schemes with poly ( f , log n ) -bit labels for general graphs. This paper considers the color faults model, recently introd
