How do I sequence therapy for follicular lymphoma?

BACKGROUND: Silver nanomaterials have been widely proven to have antifungal effects against Trichosporon asahii. However, the antifungal mechanism of silver nanomaterials with different morphologies still needs to be explored. METHODS: Herein, the antifungal effect of silver nanomaterials against fungus was comparative investigated via silver nanowires and silver nanoparticles with a similar size (30 nm). RESULTS: The optimal antifungal concentration of silver nanowires is 6.24 μg/mL, meanwhile the antifungal concentration of silver nanoparticles is 100 μg/mL. The silver nanowires are signif

Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA) in a 15-year-old Girl with Facial Acne-like Ulcers: A Case Report.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), formerly known as Wegener's granulomatosis (WG), is a multisystem autoimmune disease of unknown etiology often misdiagnosed as pneumonia. The hallmark features include necrotizing granulomatous inflammation and pauci-immune vasculitis in small and medium-sized blood vessels. We described a 15-year-old female with a history of six months of acne-like facial and peri-auricular lesions. She had received conventional treatment for acne (antibiotics + topical corticosteroid) with no response. She also had a history of chronic coughs, which always diagnosed an

Granulomatosis (Wegener's granulomatosis) with polyangiitis presented as pulmonary manifestation: a case report.

Pulmonary vasculitis can be the manifestation of several systemic illnesses such as primary systemic vasculitis, collagen vascular diseases, and systemic diseases associated with autoantibodies. It may be associated with granulomatous, eosinophilic, lymphoplasmacytic and neutrophilic inflammatory diseases. In this case report, we describe a 22-year-old female presented with intermittent fever, sweating and shivering, haemoptysis, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, non-projectile vomiting, dizziness, and dark coloured urine. The diagnosis of granulomatosis with

Bilateral Ureteral Stenosis with Hydronephrosis as First Manifestation of Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (Wegener's Granulomatosis): A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Ureteral stenosis is a rare manifestation of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (formerly known as Wegener's granulomatosis). We report the case of a 76-year-old woman with progressive renal failure in which bilateral hydronephrosis due to ureteral stenosis was the first manifestation of the disease. Our patient also had renal involvement with pauci-immune crescentic glomerulonephritis associated with high titers of anti-proteinase 3 c-ANCAs, but no involvement of the upper or lower respiratory tract. The hydronephrosis and renal function rapidly improved under immunosuppressive therapy with hig

Favorable Pregnancy Outcome in a Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis Patient With Renal Insufficiency.

To present a case of successful pregnancy outcome in a granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) patient with renal insufficiency. GPA, formerly known as Wegener's granulomatosis, is a rare necrotizing systemic vasculitis, presenting with classical clinical triad of manifestations involving upper and lower airway and glomerulonephritis. An association of Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies with GPA has been established and the antibodies are present in most patients with active disease. Pregnancy with GPA is burdened with the risk of possible maternal and fetal complications, further leading to

Feminist Ethics and Women Leaders: From Difference to Intercorporeality.

BACKGROUND: The Zika virus was first discovered in 1947. It was neglected until a major outbreak occurred on Yap Island, Micronesia, in 2007. Teratogenic effects resulting in microcephaly in newborn infants is the greatest public health threat. In 2016, the Zika virus epidemic was declared as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Consequently, mathematical models were constructed to explicitly elucidate related transmission dynamics. SURVEY METHODOLOGY: In this review article, two steps of journal article searching were performed. First, we attempted to identify mathemat

Contrasting DCIS and invasive breast cancer by subtype suggests basal-like DCIS as distinct lesions.

BACKGROUND: Although hyperglycemia is the main instigator in the development of diabetic retinopathy, elevated circulating levels of a non-protein amino acid, homocysteine, are also associated with an increased risk of retinopathy. Homocysteine is recycled back to methionine by methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and/or transsulfurated by cystathionine β-synthase (CBS) to form cysteine. CBS and other transsulfuration enzyme cystathionine-γ-lyase (CSE), through desulfuration, generates H2S. Methionine cycle also regulates DNA methylation, an epigenetic modification associated with the g

A rare case of granulomatous Wegener with multiple pyoderma gangrenosum-like ulcers.

Wegener's granulomatosis, is a rare form of systemic vasculitis characterized by necrotic granulomas around the blood vessels. We report a case of a healthy 43-year-old man presented with multiple ulcerated lesions in head and all over the body, that has appeared spontaneously. It was characterized by a giant deep ulceration covered by thick purulent, in size from 3 to 4 cm, deep; sub febrile temperature, and minimal pain associated. Skin biopsies results pyoderma gangrenosum (PG)-like features: anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (cANCA) positive. Six months later, the patient developed disp

Gingival Swelling as the Initial Manifestation of Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis.

We describe a case of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA; formerly named Wegener granulomatosis) that presented initially as florid areas of gingival swelling. The patient also had upper respiratory symptoms that included sinus congestion and cough of recent onset. Clinical-pathologic correlation aided the interpretation of non-specific biopsy findings and immediate referral to an appropriate medical specialist. Treatment was rendered at an early stage of disease with a good response to date. Review of the literature indicates that gingival swelling, often with the characteristic appearance

How to improve the histopathological diagnosis of systemic vasculitides in daily practice?

The most common group of systemic vasculitides in adulthood are anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV). AAV represent autoimmune systemic vasculitides and include 3 clinical phenotypes: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA, formerly Wegener granulomatosis), Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) and Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA, formerly Churg-Strauss syndrome). Histological features are similar to each other in all affected locations, and there are represented by necrotizing vascular inflammation of small and medium calibers, often venules, cap

Foreign body episcleral suture granulomas mimicking nodular anterior scleritis.

Scleritis is an idiopathic condition that may sometimes be associated with systemic immunological like disorders rheumatoid arthritis, Wegener's granulomatosis and systemic lupus erythematosus. A variety of foreign material has been reported to result in granuloma formation in various parts of the body. We report a case of inflamed episcleral granulomas mimicking severe nodular anterior scleritis in a healthy Caucasian woman who underwent strabismus surgery in her childhood. Foreign body reaction on the episcleral/scleral surface is rare. It is extremely unusual for a non-absorbable suture tha

Cranial Base Manifestations of Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis.

OBJECTIVE: Although granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA; Wegener's granulomatosis) is classically characterized by systemic disease involving the kidneys and airway, approximately 10% of patients who have it present with isolated central nervous system disease. When involving the skull base, GPA frequently mimics more common pathology, resulting in diagnostic challenges and delay. The primary objective of this study is to characterize the cranial base manifestations of GPA, highlighting aspects most relevant to the skull base surgeon. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective review. SETTING: Tertiary a

Strawberry gingivitis - First sign of Wegener's granulomatosis.

Wegener's Granulomatosis (WG) is an immunologically mediated rare multisystem disease characterized by necrotizing granulomatous inflammation affecting the upper and lower respiratory tracts, disseminated vasculitis and glomerulonephritis. WG oral lesions are reported to occur in 6%-13% of patients; they were an initial presenting feature in only 2% of cases. A case of strawberry gingivitis as the first sign of WG presented with erythematous and painful localized gingival enlargement affecting the maxillary anterior region of jaw in a 17-year-old boy is reported here. Correlation of histopatho

The functions and mechanisms of prefoldin complex and prefoldin-subunits.

UNLABELLED: The TAXUSExpress stent contains paclitaxel 1 microg/mm(2). On deployment, paclitaxel is slowly released into the intimal tissue of the coronary artery to prevent cell proliferation and neointimal hyperplasia. When deployed in patients with previously untreated coronary artery lesions, the paclitaxel-eluting stent (PES) effectively reduces the need for revascularization without increasing the risk of in-stent thrombosis. While long-term outcomes data and comparative efficacy and cost-benefit trials versus other drug-eluting stents are required, the PES appears to be an attractive al
