Use of Pectoralis Major Myocutaneous Flap for Marginal Mandibulectomy Defects of Oral Cavity Cancers - A 5 Year Institutional Experience.

Segmental resections of the mandible may cause severe functional and aesthetic problems due to continuity loss. The morbidity after mandibular resection can be minimized after microvascular transfer of vascularized bone grafts. Although free flaps have become the gold standard in the past decades for reconstruction of oral cavity defects, regional flaps can also be a reliable option in certain cases, especially for those belonging to the lower socioeconomic corridor and or with coexisting chronic comorbidities which will not allow lengthier procedures. A bibliometric analysis from 2004 to 2024 reveals research hotspots and trends in the immunotherapy for vasculitis.

Using bibliometric analysis, this study attempted to provide an overview of the current state of research and key findings regarding the immunotherapy for vasculitis in general. We gathered the literature from the Web of Science (WOS) database covering the last 20 years (2004-2024) pertaining to the immunotherapy for vasculitis, and we used Citespace to evaluate the mapping of knowledge. The findings demonstrated that there were 572 articles concerning the immunotherapy for vasculitis, with a faster growth after 2018. The USA, Assistance Publique Hopitaux Paris, and Cornelia M are the nation,

[Analysis of the long-term effects of COVID-19 infection (long-COVID) in Italy during and after the pandemic emergency and response strategy].

BACKGROUND: the long-COVID condition is gaining increasing relevance in terms of public health, but few studies have evaluated its impact on use of healthcare resources and the organizational responses of healthcare systems. Although many studies have evaluated case studies of individuals with long-COVID, the clinical spectrum of symptoms is still poorly defined due to the heterogeneity of the populations studied, the variability of the definitions used, and the absence of disease markers. In this context, in 2022, a project was designed and implemented in cooperation between the National Cent

Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis (Wegener's Granulomatosis) Nasal Reconstruction: Improved Outcomes With No Delay.

BACKGROUND: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener's granulomatosis) causes progressive nasal collapse, nasal obstruction, and central face deformity. It is not known whether cartilaginous nasal reconstruction should be performed immediately or delayed until after disease "burnout." OBJECTIVES: The aims of this research regarding nasal collapse due to Wegener's granulomatosis were to (1) assess the functional and aesthetic outcomes following immediate vs delayed nasal reconstruction; and (2) measure the impact of psychosocial well-being (anxiety, depression, social isolation) in immediate

The coincidence of multiple sclerosis and primary vasculitis; from the bench of pathology to the bedside of treatment: a systematic review of case reports.

INTRODUCTION: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, disabling neurodegenerative disease, leads to reduced quality of life. The increasing prevalence of MS around the world and its comorbidities increase its burden. Primary vasculitis subtypes, one of autoimmune diseases with different prevalence in different ages and genders, should be considered one of the important differential diagnosis in patients with MS. This study aims to verify the relationship between MS and primary vasculitis by conducting a systematic review. METHOD: We searched PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Google Sc

Ileal perforation involvement in Wegener granulomatosis comorbid with COVID-19 infection: A case report and review of the literature.

RATIONALE: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a systematic autoimmune disease. The typical clinical involvement of GPA entails the upper and lower respiratory tracts, and the kidneys. Gastrointestinal (GI) involvement is uncommon and unless detected and treated promptly, may lead to life-threatening complications such as perforation. We aim to review all available publications since the first description in 1982 dealing with GI perforation in patients with Wegener granulomatosis and draw attention to this serious situation. PATIENT CONCERNS: We present a 54-year-old man diagnosed with

Etiologies and Outcomes of Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis-Associated Optic Neuropathy: A Case Series and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), formerly known as Wegener granulomatosis, is a rare autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of small- to medium-sized blood vessels (vasculitis). We described the 3 causes of GPA-associated optic neuropathy (compressive, inflammatory, or ischemic) and analyzed initial and final visual acuities (VAs) in each group, which could potentially help prognosticate visual outcomes depending on the etiology of optic neuropathy. METHODS: This was a retrospective chart review of patients who were diagnosed with GPA-associated optic neuropathy a

Pheochromocytoma-induced diffuse alveolar hemorrhage after cholecystectomy: A case report and literature review.

Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) can be caused by various conditions, categorized as autoimmune and non-autoimmune. Immunofactor-mediated vasculitis, such as Wegener granulomatosis, microscopic polyangiitis, Goodpasture syndrome, connective tissue disorders, and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, are common autoimmune causes. Non-autoimmune factors include infectious or toxic exposures and neoplastic conditions. The diagnosis of DAH, resulting from excessive catecholamine release from an adrenal pheochromocytoma or extra-adrenal paraganglioma, can present diagnostic challenges and necessitat

Bilateral swelling of the lacrimal glands as first manifestation of systemic sarcoidosis in a patient with breast cancer.

Sarcoidosis, a multifaceted granulomatous disease primarily affecting the lungs, occasionally presents in atypical locations. Lacrimal gland involvement, though rare, poses distinct diagnostic challenges. This case report details a 52-year-old female with bilateral lacrimal gland swelling initially suggestive of metastatic tumor due to a history of breast cancer. Subsequent investigations, including CT and MRI, unveiled pulmonary sarcoidosis. Discussion emphasizes the diverse ocular manifestations of sarcoidosis, with lacrimal gland participation potentially indicating early stages. Diagnostic

Seronegative Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis With Isolated Lung Lesions: A Case Report.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), previously referred to as Wegener's granulomatosis, is an uncommon form of necrotizing vasculitis that predominantly targets small and medium-sized blood vessels as a result of granulomatous inflammation. Granulomatosis with polyangiitis is defined by the existence of necrotizing granulomas in the upper respiratory tract, along with renal involvement, which includes necrotizing glomerulonephritis with extra capillary crescents. From a diagnostic perspective, there is a high correlation between GPA and proteinase-3 anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (PR

A Rare Case of Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis (Wegener's Granulomatosis) Presenting With Otologic Symptoms and Facial Paralysis.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is an uncommon disorder that causes inflammation of the blood vessels in the nose, throat, lungs, and kidneys. We describe a 20-year-old female who presented to the emergency room with acute left facial paralysis, worsening left-sided otalgia secondary to a hyperemic tympanic membrane with middle ear granulation tissue, nasal obstruction with associated intermittent epistaxis, and cough. A high index of suspicion for GPA helped make an early diagnosis with subsequent initiation of treatment. This case details an unusual presenting symptom for GPA, as well

Idiopathic Gingival Enlargement: A Case Report.

Gingival enlargement (GE) is an increase in the size of the gingiva. It may be due to inflammation caused by extensive plaque accumulation, intake of drugs, systemic conditions like pregnancy and puberty, systemic diseases such as leukemia or Wegener's granulomatosis, hereditary gingival fibromatosis, and neoplastic or false enlargement. Idiopathic GE is the massive increase in the size of the gingiva with an unknown etiology. It may have a hereditary basis, be linked to physical impairment, or begin with eruption of primary or permanent dentition. It is also referred as gingivomatosis, heredi

Facial Paralysis in Otitis Media Due to Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), formerly Wegener's granulomatosis, commonly presents primarily with otitis media and hearing loss, as well as upper and lower respiratory symptoms. However, facial nerve paralysis is a rare manifestation of this uncommon necrotizing vasculitis. We report a patient with facial paralysis accompanied by otitis media. In further studies, our patient was diagnosed with GPA, which was neglected before. In such a presentation, acute suppurative otitis media is the most likely cause of the facial paralysis, but GPA must also be considered, especially in cases wi

Identification of Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in Preclinical and Prodromal Stages in Dementias: Development of a Screening Test for Mild Behavioral Impairment.

UNLABELLED: The study investigates the roles of bacterial virulence factors in the development of mycotic aneurysms and explores the potential of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as a therapeutic intervention. Mycotic aneurysms are different from degenerative ones in that they result from bacterial infections, and eradication or control of their virulence factors is influenced by bacteria. An early diagnosis with prompt treatment is needed in order to save lives since this type of aneurysm carries a high mortality rate associated with it. Imaging techniques include computed tomography (CT), positr
