Preoperative Cervical Extension and Flexion Range of Motion Predict Postoperative Kyphotic Change without Affecting 2-Year Clinical Outcomes Postoperatively after Laminoplasty for Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy.

STUDY DESIGN: Multi-center retrospective cohort study. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether preoperative cervical extension range of motion (eROM) and flexion range of motion (fROM) predict postoperative kyphotic change and affect clinical outcomes after laminoplasty for degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Cervical laminoplasty is a standard procedure for DCM; however, postoperative kyphotic change due to loss of cervical lordosis (CL) is a major concern. Although small eROM and large fROM may predict postoperative CL loss, their impact on clinical outcomes is un

Passive surgical correction of rigid adult spine deformities to normative alignment and balance.

Realizing an age-adjusted correction in adult spine deformities (ASD) is demanding. We focus on rigid ASD patients requiring three-column osteotomies (TCO) and analyze the capability to obtain a normative alignment. Additionally, we introduce a new age-adjusted alignment parameter: the C7-SA norm. We retrospectively included 26 patients (68.2 ± 1.6 years) with rigid ASD who underwent lumbar TCO for deformity correction. All patients were positioned on a ProAxis table (Mizuho OSI, USA) with the shoulders, hips and ankles aligned for passive correction without bending the surgical table. The mea

Expanding the Evaluation of Skeletal Anomalies in Patients With KBG Syndrome: Recommendations for Clinical Practice.

KBG syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant neurodevelopmental disorder caused by ANKRD11 haploinsufficiency and is characterized by short stature, distinctive facial features, intellectual disability or developmental delay, congenital anomalies and skeletal anomalies. Although skeletal anomalies are reported in about 75% of cases, their nature and extent in relation to growth are largely unknown. Therefore, this study aims to asses the prevalence of skeletal anomalies in KBG syndrome and explore whether there is a relationship with short stature. This retrospective cohort study includes patient

Assessment of the Effect of Four Kneeling Chair Angle Combinations on Muscle Activity and Perceived Discomfort.

The kneeling chair has an advantage over the traditional chair in that it promotes lumbar lordosis, while findings regarding muscle activity and subjective (dis)comfort evaluation between the two are inconsistent. Furthermore, there is a lack of studies focusing on the angle combinations of the kneeling chair. This study investigated an unsupported traditional sitting configuration and four unsupported kneeling configurations with different angle combinations through measurements of surface electromyography (EMG) signals, body part discomfort (BPD) scores, and seat configuration evaluation sco

Preoperative Alignment and Interbody Cage Design Influence Radiographic Outcomes Following Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion.

Background: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a widely performed procedure for treating degenerative cervical spine conditions. While it effectively addresses neural decompression and restores segmental alignment, the interplay of baseline alignment and implant-specific factors on postoperative segmental alignment remains underexplored. This study evaluates the influence of preoperative cervical alignment and interbody cage design on segmental alignment changes following 1- to 3-level ACDF. Methods: Following institutional review board approval, we identified 258 patients under

Cervical curvature measurement using multi-view parametric modeling imaging on reconstructed 3D ultrasound volumes.

Three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound imaging is a promising tool for assessing cervical lordosis, but the cervical spine structures visualized in ultrasound images are often fragmented, making curvature measurement challenging. In this study, we proposed a 3D multi-view parametric modeling method to reconstruct the complete topological structure of the cervical spine from ultrasound images for curvature estimation. Two 3D ultrasound volumes were acquired from the left and right posterior views, and parametric modeling was used to generate cervical spine models. Signed distance functions (SDFs) of

Impact of Physiotherapy Based on the Rigo Concept and Whole-Body Vibration on Sagittal Spinal Curvatures, Trunk Symmetry, and the Angle of Trunk Rotation in Adolescents with Idiopathic Scoliosis.

Background: Conservative treatment for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) includes physiotherapeutic scoliosis-specific exercises (PSSE) and bracing. One PSSE-based approach is the Rigo Concept, which emphasizes three-dimensional (3D) postural correction, expansion techniques, muscle activation, and postural integration. Recently, increasing interest has been directed toward incorporating whole-body vibration (WBV) into physiotherapy. WBV is a reflex-based neuromuscular training method shown to improve muscle strength and power and enhance proprioception, which may be beneficial in the trea

Pathways to Facilitate Early Recognition and Diagnosis of Hypochondroplasia.

INTRODUCTION: Hypochondroplasia (HCH) is a disproportionate short-statured skeletal dysplasia condition caused by gain-of-function pathogenic variants in the fibroblast growth receptor 3 gene (FGFR3). Although HCH typically becomes clinically apparent after the first year of life, when height discrepancy compared with the general population becomes more pronounced, diagnosis is often delayed by several years. Early recognition of HCH is challenging because of wide phenotypic variability and subtle clinical and radiographic features, leading to delayed or missed diagnosis. Furthermore, wide var
