BACKGROUND: Degenerative spondylolisthesis is associated with a significant segmental kyphosis at the level of the listhesis. We treated 7 disc spaces with Grade 2 listhesis and/or kyphosis of the slipped disc level with Kineflex disc replacement.
METHODS: Out of a single-center prospective registry, involving 310 lumbar disc replacement patients, 7 patients underwent a single-level Kineflex disc replacement at the level of a degenerative spondylolisthesis with either segmental kyphosis or a Grade 2 slip. Preoperative and follow-up radiological parameters studied were: pelvic incidence, pelvi

BACKGROUND: Anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion with instrumentation is a common procedure for the surgical treatment of cervical spinal cord and/or nerve root decompression or for deformity correction. However, various postoperative complications have been associated with such a surgical intervention. Postoperative spondylolisthesis after an anterior cervical corpectomy with instrumentation is a serious complication that has rarely been addressed in the literature, and may potentially be underreported.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 44-year-old woman with degenerative disk disease, loss of cervical

STUDY DESIGN: We report the long-term outcome after mono-segmental and bisegmental fusions at the lumbar L4-S1 region of the spine.
OBJECTIVE: Long-term clinical and radiologic outcome measures were used to determine a lumbar fusion's contribution to degenerative changes in adjacent motion segments (ASD).
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: The role of low lumbar spinal fusions and their long-term contribution to accelerated degenerative changes in the adjacent motion segments continues to be a subject of controversy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We followed-up 102 patients with an average age of 54 (22 t

Man, with his erect posture, evolves in a world subject to the laws of gravity. His spine reflects these constraints. The morphology and static of human spine and biomechanical relationships between spine and pelvis are in direct relation with bipedia. Owing to this position the pelvis widened and straightened, characteristic sagittal spinal curves appeared and the perispinal muscles were deeply reorganized. Each pelvis is characterized by an important anatomical landmark: the pelvic incidence that reflects the sagittal morphology of the pelvis. Based on this anatomical characteristic, a chain

This study is a retrospective multi-centre analysis of changes in spino-pelvic sagittal alignment after surgical correction of L5-S1 developmental spondylolisthesis. The purpose of this study was to determine how sagittal spino-pelvic alignment is affected by surgery, with the hypothesis that surgical correction at the lumbo-sacral level is associated with an improvement in the shape of the spine and in the orientation of the pelvis. Whether L5-S1 high grade spondylolisthesis should or should not be reduced remains a controversial subject. A popular method of treatment has been in situ fusion,

UNLABELLED: It is unclear whether using artificial cages increases fusion rates compared with use of bone chips alone in posterior lumbar interbody fusion for patients with lumbar spondylolisthesis. We hypothesized artificial cages for posterior lumbar interbody fusion would provide better clinical and radiographic outcomes than bone chips alone. We assumed solid fusion would provide good clinical outcomes. We clinically and radiographically followed 34 patients with spondylolisthesis having posterior lumbar interbody fusion with mixed autogenous and allogeneic bone chips alone and 42 patients

Reliable computation of spinal loads and trunk stability under whole body vibrations with high acceleration contents requires accurate estimation of trunk muscle activities that are often overlooked in existing biodynamic models. A finite element model of the spine that accounts for nonlinear load- and direction-dependent properties of lumbar segments, complex geometry and musculature of the spine, and dynamic characteristics of the trunk was used in our iterative kinematics-driven approach to predict trunk biodynamics in measured vehicle's seat vibrations with shock contents of about 4 g (g:

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Experimentally, posterolateral fusion only provides incomplete control of flexion-extension, rotation and lateral inclination forces. The stability deficit increases with increasing height of the anterior intervertebral space, which for some warrants the adjunction of an intersomatic arthrodesis in addition to the posterolateral graft. Few studies have been devoted to the impact of disc height on the outcome of posterolateral fusion. The purpose of this work was to investigate the spinal segment immobilized by the posterolateral fusion: height of the anterior intervertebr
