Osteoporosis is defined as 'too little normal bone', the disorder being rarer in children than adults. The varied forms in childhood can be classified as those secondary to some other disease and primary forms of the disorder which include the genetically determined osteogenesis imperfecta types and idiopathic forms of osteoporosis. A plea is made for greater clinical application in attempting to discriminate differing forms of these primary disorders. Osteogenesis imperfecta it is argued is a heterogeneous condition with the evidence favouring both dominantly and recessively transmitted forms

The coincidence of a scoliosis with a lumbosacral spondylolysis or spondylolisthesis has remained largely ignored in the German language literature. After a survey of the foreign literature the pathogenesis of various combination forms is discussed. Primarily with the aid of oblique X-rays of lumbar scoliosis a scheme of classification involving 7 categories is worked out. The two main categories comprise unstable spondylolisthetic scolioses with increasing abnormal posture and scoliotic spondylolistheses. In these cases a lumbar scoliosis probably induces an asymmetric spondylolysis. The sche

One hundred and fifty consecutive patients on whom the halo-pelvic apparatus was used were analyzed. Sixty-six per cent had tuberculous kyphosis or paralytic scoliosis. The apparatus was of great value in holding and correcting spines with tuberculous kyphosis and the results were gratifying, even though the average correction of the kyphos was only 20 per cent. In paralytic scoliosis a 46 per cent correction was obtained, but presently Dwyer and Harrington instrumentation are used for the majority of such cases. The halo-pelvic apparatus was effective in holding and correcting severe congenit
