Fifty patients with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the cervical spine were treated by anterior intervertebral body fusion and compared with 30 other patients treated conservatively. We found that patients with narrowing of the cervical canal to 0.5 of the normal diameter were improved by simple intervertebral fusion without excision of the ossified ligament. The author's 35 years' experience using cadaver bone for interbody spinal fusion operations has led to the development of a simplified bone bank method. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of bilateral autoamputation of the first sacral nerve roots in a patient who has spondyloptosis. Twenty four patients with spastic paraparesis due to cervical myelopathy were operated on by the anterior approach. Anterior interbody grafts are prone to displacement if there is posterior instability or gross deformity of the vertebral body. In a 20 year period seven cases of craniocervical chordoma were seen and treated. Since it is not possible to completely resect these lesions, the aim of treatment has been to debulk the tumor as much as feasible and employ postoperative irridation. The operative results of 79 patients subjected to posterior fusion of the lumbosacral spine were evaluated on the basis of a follow-up examination performed on average 5.4 years after operation. A method of evaluation was developed which measured the patients' subjective improvement and working capacity. Thirty-three patients with a spectrum of cervical spine fractures or subluxations were treated with immobilization by a halo apparatus. All spines were assumed to be unstable because of the nature of the fracture or because of a subluxation noted on spine films. This study evaluates the histological and histochemical changes and osteogenicity of Synthos (tricalcium phosphate ceramic) implanted in the cervical intervertebral space. The cervical vertebrae from C-3 to C-6 were exposed in 20 dogs, and discectomy was performed at the third and fifth spaces.
