Differences in spinal structural lesions between patients with early axSpA and non-axSpA chronic back pain: 2-year SPACE cohort results.

OBJECTIVES: To compare spinal structural lesions on radiography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) over 2 years, between patients with early axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and non-axSpA chronic back pain. METHODS: Patients from the SPACE cohort with available radiography or MRI at both baseline and 2years were included. Spinal lesions on radiography were assessed by the modified Stoke Ankylosing Spondylitis Spine Score (mSASSS), corner MRI lesions by the modified Canada-Denmark scoring system. Baseline spinal structural lesions and 2-year changes were compared between axSpA and non-axSpA.

Establishing Centers of Excellence for Axial Spondyloarthritis in Latin America: Consensus Recommendations From the REAL-PANLAR Group.

OBJECTIVE: Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a chronic inflammatory condition primarily affecting the sacroiliac joints and spine, often complicated by extramusculoskeletal manifestations such as uveitis, psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Delayed diagnosis due to nonspecific symptoms, coupled with regional disparities in healthcare infrastructure in Latin America, exacerbates disease burden, emphasizing the need for specialized care. This project aimed to develop a regional consensus for establishing Centers of Excellence (COEs) in axSpA management. METHODS: A Delphi methodology was

ERAP2 inhibitor -incorporated nanofibers: Characterization and biological assessment.

ERAP2 is an enzyme essential in the preparation of mature antigen from peptide precursors. Inhibitors of this enzyme can find applications in immuno-oncology and in the treatment of autoimmune diseases including psoriasis and ankylosing spondylitis. In recent years, electrospinning has attracted considerable interest in the field of drug delivery. The potential applications of electrospun fibers in the treatment of skin and arthritis diseases are significant. This can be attributed to the fibers' structural similarity to the extracellular matrix, in addition to their capacity to encapsulate di

Genetically predicted susceptibility to dust-induced lung diseases and risk of autoimmune diseases: a two sample Mendelian randomization study.

BACKGROUND: Observational studies have linked occupational and environmental dust exposure to increased risk of autoimmune diseases (AIDs). However, it remains unclear whether genetic susceptibility to dust-induced lung pathology has a causal effect on AID risk. This study aimed to determine whether genetic susceptibility to dust-induced lung diseases causally influences AIDs risk using Mendelian randomization (MR). METHODS: We conducted a two-sample MR analysis using genetic variants associated with lung diseases due to external agents (ICD-10 J60-J70; FinnGen, n = 500,348), and AIDs (UK Biob

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evaluation of Temporomandibular Joint Involvement in Ankylosing Spondylitis Patients.

BACKGROUND: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a long-term inflammatory disease that involves the axial skeleton, and new evidence suggests that the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) has been involved. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been found to be more sensitive in terms of early inflammatory and structural alterations in the TMJ, but the prevalence and clinical associations with AS have not been well documented. Hence, the study was done to determine the prevalence, MRI characteristics, and clinical associations of TMJ involvement in patients with AS compared with healthy controls. MATERIALS

Lumbar Hyperextension Fracture after Direct Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with stiff and brittle spines, such as those with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), are at an increased risk of intraoperative and post-operative complications. Specifically, patients with AS who undergo total hip arthroplasty (THA) with a direct anterior approach are at risk for vertebral fractures due to patient positioning and manipulation necessary to utilize this approach. To the best of our knowledge, this is the second publication discussing vertebral fracture following THA with direct anterior approach and the first depicting a hyperextension fracture. CASE REPORT: A
