BACKGROUND: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) commonly progresses to thoracolumbar kyphosis. Pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) and Ponte osteotomy are frequently used surgical methods. However, systematic comparative biomechanical studies of these two methods are insufficient, and differences in postoperative mechanical complication risks remain unclear.
OBJECTIVE: To compare the biomechanical characteristics of Ponte and PSO osteotomies in the treatment of AS with thoracolumbar kyphotic deformity, providing a biomechanical basis for clinical surgical decision-making.
METHODS: Finite element mod

INTRODUCTION: Despite the substantial progress made in the therapeutic management of spondylarthritis (SpA) after the advent of biotherapy, some patients still undergo, for various reasons, therapeutic switches to an alternative biological agent. This study aimed to identify the factors leading to the switch from the initial biological treatment in patients with SpA, with a view toward tailoring the prescription to the patient's profile.
METHODS: Adult patients (aged >18 years) with spondylarthritis treated with biotherapy were enrolled in a cohort derived from a national historical-prospecti

BACKGROUND: Multiple studies have associated PTGER4 polymorphisms with susceptibility to several autoimmune diseases, particularly ankylosing spondylitis (AS)-a condition strongly linked to the onset of acute anterior uveitis (AAU). Given this association, we investigated whether PTGER4 variants are associated with AAU susceptibility in Chinese populations.
METHODS: To identify PTGER4 disease susceptibility loci, we recruited 904 healthy subjects (AS-AAU-) and 402 AAU patients (AAU+AS-). Genotyping used the MassArray system (iPLEX Gold). SNP allele and genotype frequency differences between g

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a common immune inflammatory disease. PANoptosis, as a novel programmed cell death pathway, its mechanism of action in ankylosing spondylitis remains unclear. Therefore, this study aims to clarify the role of a novel programmed cell death pattern - PANoptosis - in the pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and to screen and verify key genes (APRGS), providing new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of AS. Based on multiple gene expression datasets (GSE25101, GSE73754, GSE11886, GSE134290) of AS patients and known gene libraries related to panoptosis, by i

Autoimmune diseases, characterized by the immune system's erroneous attack on the body's own tissues, are highly challenging to treat. Recently discovered cuproptosis, triggered by excess copper ions, leads to the abnormal accumulation of acetylated proteins and mitochondrial dysfunction, and has become a research hotspot in this field. Recent studies have shown that cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) play a potential role in various autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS), and ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and h

The etiology of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is complex and not yet fully understood. Interleukin-6 (IL-6), vitamin D and the vitamin D receptor (VDR) play an important role in modulating immune response, and Torque teno virus is considered a marker of immune status. This case-control study aimed to investigate the predisposition to AS. A total of 85 patients with AS and 100 clinically healthy individuals were included. VDR polymorphisms (rs2228570, rs1544410, rs7975232, rs731236) were genotyped using the PCR-RFLP technique, while for the IL-6 -174 G>C (rs1800795) polymorphism the tetra-primer

INTRODUCTION: Cardiopulmonary complications are common in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and have an adverse impact on the mortality and quality of life of patients. Myocardial involvement can lead to systolic and diastolic dysfunction, which can be asymptomatic for a long time. Chest wall rigidity, a complication of both diseases, can also lead to cardiac dysfunction, especially in the right heart-pulmonary circulation unit. We aimed to assess the response of the pulmonary circulation-right ventricular function unit and left ventricular function during exercise in A

Background: Over recent years, machine-learning and radiomics approaches have been increasingly applied to support the diagnosis and clinical management of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Nevertheless, the reported diagnostic accuracy of these models remains inconsistent, largely due to variations in imaging acquisition, feature-engineering workflows, and validation strategies across studies. A comprehensive quantitative reassessment is therefore warranted to better delineate the true diagnostic and prognostic capability of such artificial-intelligence-driven methods. Purpose: This meta-analysis

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS), enthesitis-related arthritis, and psoriatic arthritis are autoimmune bone diseases that share the characteristic pathological features of enthesitis and heterotopic ossification. This sets them apart from bone-eroding inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. The lack of effective animal models severely hampers the research on their pathogenesis and treatment. Here, we report that a peptide derived from amino acids 91-115 in the G1 domain of the chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan versican potently increases the incidence of type II collagen-induced ar
