Prevalence and relative risk of fractures and osteoporosis in patients with ankylosing spondylitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Patients with ankylosing spondylitis are at greater risk of fractures and osteoporosis. This meta-analysis reveals their fracture and osteoporosis prevalence exceeds 13%. Two clinical indices, BASDAI and mSASSS, significantly correlate with fracture risk. These findings support early screening and targeted management to prevent skeletal complications and improve patient outcomes. Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) face an elevated risk of fractures and osteoporosis, which negatively impact quality of life and increase healthcare costs. This study systematically evaluates the prevalence

Comparative biomechanical analysis of pedicle screws versus cortical bone trajectory fixation in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis.

OBJECTIVE: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an inflammatory rheumatic disease, in which an imbalance between loss and formation of bone can lead to ligamentous calcification or osteoporosis. Patients with severe spinal deformities are typically treated with long-segment pedicle screw (PS) internal fixation after bone resection; however, issues with the operation, such as fracture and screw loosening or pulling out, might arise. For patients with low bone quality, the cortical bone trajectory (CBT) has been suggested and developed. METHODS: In order to cure AS, this study set out to look at the

Single-immunocyte transcriptomics reveal the role of natural killer cell-dependent exogenous antigen presentation in ankylosing spondylitis severity.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an autoimmune disease that can cause severe deformities, and the immunological patterns associated with its onset and progression remain poorly understood. Here, after recruiting healthy donors and patients in different stages, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing for peripheral blood mononuclear cells to investigate the cytotaxonomic and immunological hallmarks associated with AS onset, aggravation and remission and explore the intrinsic laws causing AS lesions. The results showed that innate antibacterial defense functions were generally enhanced in most cel

Adalimumab-Associated Sensory Neuropathy in a Young Patient With Spondyloarthritis: A Complication of Anti-tumor Necrosis Factor Therapy.

Demyelinating neurological diseases are important contraindications to initiating anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) biologic therapy; however, these agents can also rarely induce demyelinating conditions, including neuropathies. This immunological breakdown induced by anti-TNF drugs is a class effect and may be reversible upon discontinuation of the drug. In this report, the authors have presented an anti-TNF-induced neuropathy in an ankylosing spondylitis patient that reversed on drug discontinuation. With more frequent clinical use of anti-TNF drugs, especially with the advent of biosimilars,

Affinity between gut microbiota and ankylosing spondylitis: insight from causal analysis.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease with a global prevalence, primarily affecting the axial skeleton. While traditional therapies are often employed before surgical interventions, pharmacotherapy is typically reserved for cases of unstable AS condition. The gut microbiota has been implicated in numerous pathological conditions. However, its specific role in AS remains poorly understood. To address this knowledge gap, we applied Mendelian randomization (MR) to explore potential causal relationships between gut microbiota and AS. For this analysis, we utilized two large
