The influence of the pre-delivery stride on subsequent fast bowling technique in elite male cricketers.

Research in cricket fast bowling has primarily investigated technique from back foot contact onwards. This study aims to explore the effect of the pre-delivery stride (step pre-back foot contact) on technique characteristics previously linked with performance and injury risk. Six pre-delivery stride, and 16 performance or lumbar bone stress injury-related technique characteristics were determined for 29 elite male fast bowlers. Fifteen significant correlations were observed between the pre-delivery stride and the performance and injury-risk characteristics (p < 0.05). From a performance perspe

Finite element validation and short-term clinical outcomes of robot-assisted percutaneous microwave ablation plus cement augmentation and sacroiliac screw fixation for upper sacral (S1-S2) metastases.

BACKGROUND: Upper sacral (S1–S2) metastases frequently cause severe pain, pathological fractures, and neurological compromise. Conventional treatments, including open surgery, standalone ablation or sacroplasty, and radiotherapy, are often limited by high morbidity, insufficient mechanical stability, or delayed pain relief. This study evaluated the feasibility, clinical outcomes, and biomechanical characteristics of a robot‑assisted multimodal minimally invasive strategy for upper sacral malignant tumors. METHODS: This single‑center retrospective study included 10 patients with pathologically

Systematic evaluation of the biomechanical characteristics of PFNA, PFBN, and InterTan fixation for intertrochanteric fractures under gradient variations of proximal femoral lateral wall thickness and delineation of optimal fixation domains.

BACKGROUND: The proximal femoral lateral wall serves as a critical "lateral pillar" in the mechanical stability of intertrochanteric fractures, and variations in its thickness may profoundly influence the biomechanical behavior of different intramedullary fixation systems. However, previous studies have largely assessed the lateral wall in a binary manner, lacking systematic evidence based on continuous gradients. This study aimed to elucidate the biomechanical coupling between lateral wall thickness and three mainstream intramedullary fixation systems (PFNA, PFBN, and InterTan) using high-res

Immunomodulatory-osteogenic dual-functional nanofibers augment screw anchorage in osteoporotic bone.

Screw fixation remains the primary clinical strategy for osteoporotic fractures (OPF). However, impaired osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and limited cellular migration often lead by osseointegration failure and screw loosening. Inspired by the architectural concept of "column-interface synergistic load-bearing", we developed a polydopamine-functionalized coaxial electrospun nanofiber scaffold (S-MS-PDA) to address both biological and mechanical fixation challenges at the screw-bone interface. The scaffold's coaxial design enabled the spatiotemporal sequ

Multifunctional MoS₂-PMMA bone cement with enhanced strength and antibacterial activity to overcome limitations of conventional materials in orthopedic surgery.

BACKGROUNDS: The increasing incidence of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) necessitates the development of effective treatment strategies. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement, which is widely used, lacks adequate antimicrobial properties and poses the risk of postoperative infections. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) nanosheets, which are known for their antimicrobial and osteogenic potential, offer a novel approach. METHODS: We synthesized PMMA-MoS₂ nanocomposites by incorporating MoS₂ nanosheets into PMMA bone cement. The mechanical properties of the composites were eval

The biomechanical effects of different materials on the application of femoral external fixator: Stainless steel versus titanium alloy and healthy versus osteoporosis bone properties.

BACKGROUND: External fixation stabilizes fractured bones externally, ensuring proper bone union through optimal frame stability. Since different materials provide varying mechanical properties, this study investigated an external fixation system under two conditions: (1) fixator materials (stainless steel vs. titanium alloy) and (2) bone properties (healthy vs. osteoporotic). METHOD: A 3D fractured femoral bone model was reconstructed with a unilateral fixator and analyzed using the Finite Element Method (FEM) under stance phase loading. FINDINGS: The findings revealed that both bone and fix

Patient specific optimization and planning of vertebral augmentation in osteoporosis: Finite element and Artificial Intelligence approaches.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures (OVCFs) are responsible for significant disability, especially among individuals with low Bone Mineral Density (BMD). Although vertebral augmentation methods such as percutaneous vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty offer rapid pain relief and stability, the optimal combination of bone cement properties like volume, elasticity, and distribution remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to optimize these parameters using a hybrid Finite element (FE) analysis and Artificial Intelligence (AI) framework integrating Artificial Neural Networks

In reverse shoulder arthroplasty, selectively medializing the glenoid in higher-risk patients is associated with reduced risk of acromial stress fracture.

BACKGROUND: Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty has roughly a 4% risk of acromial stress fracture (ASF) and is associated with poor outcomes. Previous finite element analyses indicated that glenoid center of rotation lateralization significantly increased acromial strain; however, clinical studies have reported conflicting data with regards to implant position parameters on the incidence of ASFs. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether medializing the glenoid component in patients at higher risk of ASF was associated with a lower incidence of ASF. METHODS: A retrospective analysis w
