Study DesignRetrospective cohort study.ObjectivesSevere neck pain has traditionally been considered a relative contraindication for cervical disc replacement (CDR) due to risk of persistent neck pain from the remaining mobile segment. However, recent studies suggest potential for neck pain improvement with CDR. This study aimed to compare postoperative improvements in neck pain and disability between patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and CDR.MethodsPredominant neck pain was defined as neck pain equal to or greater than arm pain preoperatively (visual analog sca

INTRODUCTION: Cervical intervertebral disc height is often used to score cervical degenerative disc disease (CDDD) and can also aid in pre-operative surgical planning. For this purpose, MRI and X-ray imaging are routinely used. However, the reliability and agreement with computed tomography (CT), the gold standard for linear measurements, remain unknown.
RESEARCH QUESTION: To assess the reliability and agreement of intervertebral disc height measurements between MRI, X-ray, and CT.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data was collected from all patients that received an MRI, X-ray, and CT within a timefra

PURPOSE: Cervical disc replacement aims to preserve cervical spine motion and reduce the risk of adjacent segment disease. The Rhine cervical disc is a non-articulating, viscoelastic implant designed to replicate the natural biomechanics of the cervical spine. To date, no explant analyses of this device have been published. This study presents the explant analysis of two Rhine cervical discs retrieved from a 41-year-old female patient who had undergone two-level cervical total disc replacement, C4-C5 and C6-C7, for myeloradiculopathy.
METHODS: The implants were removed approximately one year

INTRODUCTION: Compared with fusion for degenerative disc disease, cervical disc replacement (CDR) preserves motion. We report a rare case of posterior migration of a mobile core in an unconstrained device, underscoring the risk of severe complications after disc arthroplasty. CASE PRESENTATION: A 29-year-old woman underwent Mobi-C arthroplasty at C5/6 in 2016 for refractory radiculopathy caused by a disc herniation. After initial improvement, she developed recurrent neck and arm pain at age 38, accompanied by reduced neck flexion. Imaging revealed cervical kyphosis, displacement of the upper i

Introduction Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is considered the gold standard procedure for fixation of cervical disc degenerative disease. However, the optimal construct remains debated between zero-profile cages and bone graft with anterior plate fixation. Objective This study aims to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes of zero-profile cages with standard bone graft and plate fixation in single- and two-level cervical prolapsed intervertebral disc surgery. Methods This prospective observational study was conducted at the Neurosurgery department after enrolling patie

BACKGROUND: Spinal spondylosis - including degenerative disc disease, facet arthropathy, and stenosis - is a leading cause of chronic spinal pain. Regenerative biologics such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), and mesenchymal cell therapies are increasingly used, yet evidence remains inconsistent. This systematic review synthesizes randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating biologic injections for degenerative spinal conditions.
METHODS: MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane CENTRAL databases were searched from inception to September 22, 2025. Only RCTs evalua

BACKGROUND: In recent years, hybrid surgery (HS), which combines cervical disc replacement and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in treating multilevel cervical degenerative disc disease (CDDD), has emerged; however, its advantages over ACDF remain uncertain. This study aims to evaluate the safety, effectiveness, and reliability of HS and to provide updated insights into its clinical application and support surgical decision-making.
METHODOLOGY: This study included 20 articles that compared ACDF and HS in multilevel CDDD from January 2017 to January 2025. The following outcomes w

With recent advancements and growing literature on the treatment of cervical spine disease in athlete populations, there are new paradigms for treatment, either operatively or nonoperatively, to optimize return to play (RTP) and outcomes while minimizing complications. Although conservative management is effective in many cases, high-level athletes with persistent symptoms may benefit from early surgical intervention. Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion and cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) have shown high RTP rates, with CDA offering potential advantages in motion preservation and lower ad

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is considered gold standard for anterior management of cervical degenerative disease, yet traditional interbody and plate constructs often require substantial soft-tissue exposure and may be associated with increased postoperative morbidity and dysphagia/prevertebral swelling. Moreover, anterior plate prominence and prolonged retraction have been implicated in postoperative dysphagia and prevertebral soft-tissue irritation, motivating interest in low-profile fixation strategies. The goal of this paper is to introduce a novel zero-profile interbody

Background/Objectives: i-Factor™ Bone Graft is a composite bone substitute containing P-15 synthetic collagen fragment that has demonstrated noninferiority to local autograft in single-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF); however, direct head-to-head comparisons with demineralized bone matrix (DBM) using contemporary 3D-printed titanium cages are lacking. The aim of this retrospective study was to compare radiographic fusion rates, segmental stability, and clinical outcomes between i-Factor™ and DBM in single-level ACDF, with a particular focus on the early time course of fusi

Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) is a well-established motion-preserving treatment for cervical degenerative disc disease. The Bryan® Cervical Disc is among the most widely used implants with supportive long-term outcome data; however, late implant migration is a rare occurrence and can result in significant neurologic compromise. A female in her mid-50s with a history of C5-6 Bryan Cervical Disc arthroplasty performed 20 years prior presented with progressive cervical myelopathy. She reported a fall from a horse two years before evaluation. Neurologic examination demonstrated bilateral upper-

BACKGROUND: Cervical degenerative disc disease is a common indication for surgical intervention to stabilize vertebral segments and alleviate symptomatic radiculopathy or myelopathy. While anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has long been a standard procedure for these cases, more recently, cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) has offered a motion preserving alterative to potentially reduce adjacent segment degeneration (ASD). Although cost-effectiveness data exist for single- and two-level procedures, there remain no direct comparisons for three-level CDA constructs. This study retrosp
