Schmorl Node Can Cause Increased 68Ga-FAPI Activity on PET/CT.

68Ga-FAPI is a newly developed tumor imaging agent with promising clinical applications. However, benign lesions may also show increased FAPI activity. We accidentally discovered that Schmorl node expressed FAPI activity in a patient with sweat gland cancer. Thus, greater awareness is needed that Schmorl nodes are a potential reason for false-positive uptake on 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT.

Effect of endplate reduction on endplate healing morphology and intervertebral disc degeneration in patients with thoracolumbar vertebral fracture.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of endplate reduction on the final healing morphology and degenerative changes in intervertebral discs. METHODS: Forty-eight patients with single-level thoracolumbar fractures with endplate injury were included. All patients underwent posterior reduction and pedicle screw fixation, and postoperative imaging was used to determine whether endplate reduction was successful. The healing morphology of the endplate was divided into three types: increased endplate curvature, irregular healing and traumatic Schmorl node. MRI was performed at baseline and at the last

Differentiation between spinal subchondral bone metastasis with focal pathologic endplate fracture and oedematous Schmorl's node.

INTRODUCTION: We aimed to identify imaging-based findings that can differentiate between spinal subchondral bone metastasis with focal pathologic endplate fracture and oedematous Schmorl's nodes that have been histopathologically confirmed. METHODS: Between March 2010 and April 2016, 11 patients who had undergone spinal magnetic resonance (MR) imaging or computed tomography (CT) with final radiologic reports that included 'subchondral bone metastasis with focal pathologic endplate fracture' or 'edematous Schmorl's node' and had also undergone percutaneous imaging-guided spinal biopsies were i

Schmorl's nodes: demystification road of endplate defects-a critical review.

BACKGROUND: Schmorl's nodes (SN) were the first vertebral endplate defects described. Debate continues about their epidemiology, physiopathology, and clinical significance. The purpose of this work was to summarize and discuss available literature about SN. METHODS: We have searched for relevant papers about SN until April 2020, with 104 articles have been reviewed. RESULTS: More than half of the available literature described the epidemiological aspects of SN or reported rare clinical presentations and treatment options. The lack of a consensual definition of SN, among other endplate defect

Lumbar Scheuermann's disease found in a patient with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) caused by a heterozygous mutation in COL1A2 (c.4048G > A): a case report.

BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heterogeneous connective tissue disorder characterized by increased bone fragility and a series of extraskeletal manifestations. Approximately 90 % of OI cases are caused by type I collagen variants encoded by the collagen type I alpha 1 (COL1A1) or type I alpha 2 (COL1A2) gene. Lumbar Scheuermann's disease is an atypical type of Scheuermann's disease accompanied by Schmorl's nodes and irregular endplates but without pronounced kyphosis. Although the etiology of Scheuermann's disease is unclear, genetic and environmental factors are likely. CASE P

Vertebral intraosseous plasma rich in growth factor (PRGF-Endoret) infiltrations as a novel strategy for the treatment of degenerative lesions of endplate in lumbar pathology: description of technique and case presentation.

BACKGROUND: Motivation and necessity to adopt minimally invasive therapies in the field of spinal regenerative medicine is increasing. Autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy has recently been used as an effective technological and biological approach to tissue repair and has shown to improve multiple conditions including back pain and degenerative disc pathology. In addition, it is well established that the anatomic elements of the spinal system affected by degenerative pathology include the intervertebral disc (IVD) and vertebral subchondral bone (VSB), which play a crucial role in mai

Using spinal activity-related osseous change in order to explore patterns of occupational stress in a Greek Contemporary Skeletal Collection.

Even though the relationship between occupational stress and entheseal changes has been extensively examined in modern skeletal series, less attention has been given in examining degenerative and plastic osseous change along the spine in relation to different professions. This paper attempts this investigation and is the first that explores the level of physical activity in female housekeepers of The Athens Collection. A sample of 65 adult skeletons up to 50 years old and 1653 vertebrae are examined for Degenerative Joint Diseases (including Schmorl's nodes) and spinal facet remodeling. The ab
