The increasing demand for cosmetic procedures in the orofacial area nowadays, results in a growing number of complications attributable to soft tissue fillers, including the development of foreign body granuloma. The purpose of this study is to present two additional cases of oral foreign body granulomas caused by liquid silicone and hyaluronic acid respectively and review the pertinent literature regarding the demographics, the clinical appearance, the histopathology and the treatment of these lesions. BACKGROUND: In cranial surgery, different foreign body (FB) materials are used and may be left intentionally or unintentionally in the surgical field after closure, inducing a foreign body granuloma (FBG). This is a rare complication in neurosurgery, but it may be a diagnostic dilemma, with sometimes medicolegal implications.
METHODS: We performed a systematic review of the English literature between 1965 and 2018 and found a total of 77 articles concerning 100 cases of FBG caused by retained material located within the cranium or surrounding soft tissues.

Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies are a heterogeneous group of potentially treatable myopathies. Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are heterogeneous disorders that affect the skeletal muscles. Polymyositis, dermatomyositis, and inclusion body myositis are major IIM subsets. Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy became recognized as a potentially new IIM subset. Soft tissue reactions to paraffin include inflammation, fibrosis, disfigurement, and granulomatous inflammation with foreign body giant cell reaction. The authors report the case of a 77-year-old woman with cutaneous marginal zone B cell lymphoma located on glabella, arising in association with underlying paraffinoma. While it is unclear whether the implant directly contributed to the development of lymphoma, this association has not been previously documented, prompting this report.

Foreign body granulomas can develop after the injection of various cosmetic filling materials into the facial area to flatten wrinkles. Clinically, reactive lesions are easily mistaken for soft-tissue neoplasms or cysts. This report presents a case of foreign body granuloma in a 52-year-old female patient complaining of a painless swelling in the nasolabial region. Both clinical and histological features are described, underscoring the diagnostic role of magnetic resonance imaging findings.
