BACKGROUND: Necrotizing myositis is a rare but life-threatening soft-tissue infection characterized by rapidly spreading inflammation and subsequent necrosis of the affected tissue. The myositis is often caused by toxin-producing, virulent bacteria such as group A β-hemolytic streptococcus and associated with severe systemic toxicity. It is rapidly fatal unless diagnosed promptly and treated aggressively. INTRODUCTION: Epulis granulomatosa is a lesion which grows from an extraction socket. It can be misdiagnosed with lesions of the same clinical appearance such as: foreign body or pyogenic granuloma, or as a herniation of the maxillary sinus. The most common treatment is surgical excision.

Thorn injuries are common especially in rural areas. The diagnosis of such in children is always missed. An untreated retained thorn may cause late soft tissue and osseous complications. Herein, we report a case of neglected thorn injury mimicking soft tissue mass in an 11-year-old male child. The presence of the thorn was confirmed with ultrasound scan and computerized tomography. The child was successfully managed with removal of thorn with excision of foreign body granuloma.

BACKGROUND: A 39-year-old woman presented with a history of relapsing painful erythema and progressive fibrosis of the lower back. Cholesterol granulomas are benign lesions, rarely seen in the breast, which are indistinguishable from malignancy on anatomical imaging. The FDG PET/CT of a patient referred for melanoma staging revealed a mildly FDG-avid, soft tissue nodule in the left breast. This finding was felt unlikely to represent metastatic melanoma due to the relatively low level of uptake. The lesion was not seen on follow-up mammography. The injection material polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAAG; Ferrosan, Søborg, Denmark) is often used as space filler for soft-tissue defects. PAAG is a suitable alternative to the materials used for injection laryngoplasty. OBJECTIVES: Urological chronic pelvic pain syndrome includes interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS), a chronic bladder pain condition of unknown etiology. Interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome can co-occur with a number of associated conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and fibromyalgia. The purpose of this study was to estimate the heritability of approximately 20 associated conditions in first-degree relatives (and if appropriate, second- and third-degree relatives) of patients with IC/PBS to identify shared genetic contributions for the disease combinations.
