Infective Myositis with Guillain-Barré Syndrome in Enterococcus Infection.

Acute myositis and Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) occurring together in a single patient is a rare clinical phenomenon that poses both diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This article discusses the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of these two neuromuscular disorders. The simultaneous occurrence of infectious myositis and GBS is uncommon, and the identification of Enterococcus as the causative agent is even rarer. In this report, we describe a case involving a middle-aged female who presents with both acute infectious myositis and GBS.

Multifocal tuberculous myositis: a case series from a tuberculosis endemic region.

OBJECTIVE: Multifocal tubercular myositis is rare but important entity that often mimics autoimmune rheumatic or inflammatory muscle diseases. This study aims to collect and analyse cases of multifocal muscular tuberculosis (TB) reported in tertiary care settings in India. METHODS: This retrospective, multicentre, observational study was conducted at two tertiary care centres in India between 2019 and 2025. Patients with confirmed TB and evidence of muscle involvement at ≥2 non-contiguous sites were included. Muscle involvement was confirmed by imaging (CT, MRI, ultrasound, FDG-PET) with or w

Pyomyositis Caused by Streptococcus agalactiae: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Pyomyositis is a subacute bacterial infection of the skeletal muscle that is more common in the tropics. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common pathogen involved in pyomyositis, but Streptococcus agalactiae (group B Streptococcus (GBS)) can cause pyomyositis. We herein present a case of pyomyositis of the right gluteus maximus caused by GBS bacteremia (primary bacteremia). An 81-year-old man with a history of diabetes mellitus presented with warmth and painful swelling of the right lateral buttock. Computed tomographic (CT) images revealed swelling of the right gluteus maximus without an abs

Influenza triggered myositis in an elderly patient: An atypical presentation of influenza infection.

Myositis is characterized by skeletal muscle inflammation and weakness, often accompanied by swelling and muscle pain or tenderness. The etiology could root from autoimmune causes, infective triggers or secondary to systemic diseases. Viral infections are the most widely known cause of infective myositis, among which influenza infection has claimed majority of cases. Here we highlight a case of an unusual but clinically important case of influenza-associated-myositis presenting as an atypical sudden-onset weakness.

Influenza B-associated acute myositis in a child in Sri Lanka: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Myositis, characterized by inflammation and weakness of skeletal muscles, is a multifactorial condition caused by various infectious, autoimmune, and neuromuscular disorders. Among these, infective myositis is a rare but significant clinical entity, predominantly caused by viral pathogens. Viruses such as influenza, enteroviruses, rubella, and human immunodeficiency virus are common culprits, with influenza-associated myositis being a particularly well-documented phenomenon. Despite its self-limiting nature in many cases, influenza-associated myositis warrants clinical attention ow

Viral Myositis Secondary to Influenza A in a Preschool Child in Saudi Arabia: A Case Report.

Infective myositis is a rare complication of viral infection, occurring most commonly in children. Here, we present the first case report in Saudi Arabia that describes a four-year-old healthy female who presented to the emergency department with a history of fever associated with coryzal symptoms for four days and a one-day history of bilateral lower limb pain and an inability to walk without assistance. Lower limb pain was not associated with joint pain, swelling, or skin rashes. The respiratory virus panel was positive for influenza A, and she was found to have increased levels of creatine

The roles of PARK gene family in myopathy.

The causative gene family of Parkinson's disease, PARK, plays important roles in the regulation of skeletal myopathy and is also involved in multiple biological processes, such as the modification of motor neurons, the transmission of nerve signals at the nerve-muscle junction, the regulation of skeletal muscle energy metabolism and mitochondrial quality, and the expression of myogenesis factors. PARK gene family regulates skeletal muscle mass, functions through a multi-level regulatory system, and plays a key role in the occurrence and development of skeletal myopathy. In this review, we summ

Incidence and challenges in management of hemodialysis catheter-related infections.

Catheter-related infections (CRI) are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in chronic hemodialysis (HD) patients. In this paper, we share our experience with CRI in HD patients. We recorded 49 cases of CRI among 167 patients during a period of 40 months (January 2018-April 2021). The incidence of CRI was 3.7 per 1000 catheter-days. The revealing symptoms were dominated by fever or chills (90%). Inflammatory signs were observed in 74% of cases with respectively concurrent exit-site (51%) and tunnel infection (6%). The biological inflammatory syndrome was found in 74% of patients (average CR

Don't Forget the Flu - Determining the Etiology of Infective Myositis in a Child: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Infective myositis is an acute, self-limited condition, rarely occurring in children with recent viral infections. The condition is often overlooked by emergency physicians when endeavoring to exclude other diagnoses included in the differential. Diagnosis of the condition can be difficult when based purely on clinical presentation because it shares symptoms with much more concerning neurological illnesses. A few simple laboratory tests are indicated to reach the correct diagnosis. CASE REPORT: The following case report describes a three-year-old female diagnosed with a recent u

Infective myositis.

Myositis is inflammation especially of the voluntary muscles, characterized by localized or diffuse pain, tenderness on movement or palpation, swelling, and/or weakness. The two main categories of myositis include non-infectious and infectious. Infective myositis may be due to a wide variety of pathogens, including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. A brief account of the various pathogens causing infective myositis is discussed.

Infective myositis, an uncommon presentation of melioidosis: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Melioidosis is considered endemic in certain areas of the world. Musculoskeletal and soft tissue involvement are relatively uncommon presentations in melioidosis. We present a case of infective myositis in a patient with melioidosis in Sri Lanka, which is not considered an endemic country. Even though multiple cases of melioidosis have been reported with an increasing number in Sri Lanka, infective myositis secondary to melioidosis was not reported previously. CASE PRESENTATION: A 60-year-old Sinhalese man with diabetes presented with fever of 4 months' duration and a limp with a

MRI in necrotizing fasciitis of the extremities.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a life-threatening soft-tissue infection of bacterial origin, which involves mainly the deep fascia. Early recognition of this condition may be hampered by the uncommon nature of the disease and non-specificity of initial clinical signs and symptoms in less fulminant cases, making the role of imaging important. MRI is the most useful imaging modality in the diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis. The presence of thick (>3 mm) hyperintense signal in the deep fascia (particularly intermuscular fascia) on fat-suppressed T2 weighted or short tau inversion-recovery images is an

A case report on parvovirus b19 associated myositis.

Introduction. Whilst there are reports of viral myopathies affecting children and the immunocompromised, infective myositis is a relatively rare inflammatory myopathy in adults. The clinical spectrum can range from benign myalgias to more serious complications in certain risk groups. Case Presentation. We present two cases of myositis as a result of parvovirus B19 infection. Conclusion. Viral myositis and parvovirus B19 associated myositis should be considered in adults presenting with significant myalgia.

[The diagnosis of inflammatory muscular and vascular diseases using MRT with STIR sequences].

The role of MRT in the prebiopsy diagnosis of muscular and vascular inflammatory conditions was evaluated prospectively and an optimal method of examination was investigated. 92 patients with a suspected diagnosis of myositis (60 cases) or vasculitis (32 cases) were examined, in each case two extremities were studied using transverse T1 and T2 weighted SE sequences and double echo STIR sequences on a 0.5 Tesla (56 patients) or 1.5 Tesla magnet (36 patients; T5/S15 Gyroscan, Philips). The site of the biopsy depended on the MRT findings. In 41 patients the suspected diagnosis was confirmed histo
