A Case of Bilateral Cheek Foreign Body Granulomas Caused by Absorbable Filler.

The use of soft tissue fillers for cosmetic purposes has increased in recent years, accompanied by increasing complications. We report a case of foreign body granuloma after absorbable filler injection requiring surgical management. A subcutaneous cheek mass developed in a 60-year-old woman after hyaluronic acid and polycaprolactone-based filler (Ellansé) injection. The mass enlarged despite corticosteroid therapy, causing pain, sensory disturbance, orbital pressure, and visual discomfort. On referral, the lesion was at risk of skin invasion and was surgically excised. Histopathology confirmed

Siliconomas and Sepsis from Illegal Silicone Injections.

Illegal silicone injections for body enhancement can lead to serious complications, including the formation of siliconomas - granulomatous reactions caused by silicone leakage and spread through tissues and lymphatic drainage pathways. This paper presents the case of a 31-year-old transgender man who developed widespread silicone-related soft tissue deposits and sepsis following unauthorized silicone injections into the gluteal region. The patient presented with fever, hypotension, tachycardia, and multiple palpable subcutaneous nodules. Imaging studies, including computed tomography, magnetic

Lip filler-related granulomatous inflammation mimicking oral pathology: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Injectable dermal fillers are widely used in esthetic practice for lip augmentation and perioral soft-tissue enhancement. Although delayed complications such as foreign-body reactions and filler migration are described in the dermatologic literature, their manifestation as oral lesions during routine dental examination is less commonly recognized. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 67-year-old woman had multiple firm, white, elevated nodules on the right lower labial mucosa approximately 1 month after receiving injectable dermal filler in the lip. The lesions were nonmobile, with intact overlyin

Reactive Palatal Fibrosis Following Facial Dermal Filler Injection and Anfiye Inhalation: A Case Mimicking OSMF.

Anfiye is a traditional herbal remedy commonly used in Iran and several Arabic countries for the treatment of sinusitis and nasal congestion. It is typically administered as a nasally inhaled powder. Various formulations exist under the name Anfiye; however, the most widely used preparation contains root powder of Gypsophila struthium and seeds of Nigella sativa. Inhalation of Anfiye induces sneezing, which in turn helps alleviate nasal congestion and rhinorrhea, thereby contributing to the management of sinusitis. Modifying facial soft tissues volume and contours through dermal injection of b

Refractory craniofacial soft-tissue foreign-body granulomas after sequential multi-material filler injections: Imaging-based surgical management and filler-associated clinicopathologic analysis.

With the rising popularity of minimally invasive facial aesthetic procedures, injection-related complications in the cranio-maxillofacial region pose an increasing diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. We report a rare case of refractory delayed-onset inflammatory nodules in a 36-year-old woman with a self-reported allergic history following sequential injections of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), and polycaprolactone (PCL) based biostimulatory fillers in distinct facial subunits. More than one year post-injection, the patient developed progressive erythema, induration, ten

Case Report: Retained gallstone migrating to the chest wall after cholecystectomy presenting as chronic abscess, sinus tract, and inflammatory pseudotumor.

BACKGROUND: Gallbladder perforation and gallstone spillage are common during laparoscopic cholecystectomy, occurring in up to 40% and 6%-10% of cases, respectively. While most retained stones remain asymptomatic, 2.3%-8.5% of patients may present with intra-abdominal abscess, granuloma formation, abdominal wall sinus, fistula or a mass mimicking a malignancy (1). We report a unique case of a retained gallstone migrating to the chest wall 2 years after cholecystectomy, forming a chronic abscess, sinus tract, and inflammatory pseudotumor. Characterization of skin and soft tissue adverse reaction after saphenous vein closure using cyanoacrylate.

OBJECTIVE: Cyanoacrylate closure (CAC) is a minimally invasive, nonthermal treatment for varicose veins. However, regarding postoperative skin and soft tissue adverse reactions, their clinical characteristics remain poorly defined. This study compared adverse reactions after CAC and thermal ablation (TA) and characterized their features following CAC. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 511 patients treated for saphenous vein incompetence (300 CAC cases and 211 TA cases). Skin and soft tissue adverse reactions, defined as reactions requiring oral medication or surgical intervention, were eva

Novel Granulectomy Technique and Intralesional Triamcinolone for Liquid Injectable Silicone-Induced Chin Granulomas: A Long-Term Ambidirectional Cohort Study.

Background: Liquid injectable silicone (LIS) is controversially used for soft-tissue augmentation, frequently causing severe, late-onset foreign body granulomas. Complete surgical removal is nearly impossible due to silicone migration, with residues leading to high recurrence. Meanwhile, medical therapies alone do not address macroscopic structural deformity. This study evaluates a combined protocol of subdermal granulectomy followed by adjuvant intralesional steroids for chin siliconomas. Methods: An ambidirectional cohort study (2015-2025) evaluated 35 patients with LIS-induced chin granulom

What Lies Beneath? Using Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) to Identify Soft Tissue Foreign Bodies in Children and Adults: A Literature Review.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate and appraise the existing evidence on the use of point of care ultrasound (POCUS) for identifying soft tissue foreign bodies (FBs). METHODS: We searched PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, and Cochrane databases for prospective and retrospective studies evaluating the reliability of POCUS in identifying soft tissue FBs. Our primary intention was to review the paediatric-specific evidence base. However, due to a paucity of literature in this area, we also included relevant adult studies and case reports. RESULTS: We identified a total of 42 unique articles with relevance

A broken mercury thermometer in the orbital cavity.

INTRODUCTION: Elemental mercury exposure is an important public health concern. Direct soft tissue exposure to mercury is rare and can lead to local inflammatory reactions and complications if not promptly addressed. CASE SUMMARY: We report a 4-year-old boy with a foreign body intrusion to the left periorbital region after he fell onto a glass mercury thermometer. The thermometer head, containing elemental mercury, was embedded beneath the lower eyelid skin. Initial symptoms were minimal, but two months later, the patient developed swelling and a palpable mass. Fibrous tissue, glass, and leak

Late complication of cosmetic injectable treatments presenting to oral and maxillofacial surgeons: soft tissue filler granulomas.

Hospital-based clinicians have seen a progressive increase in complications following cosmetic treatments. A challenging late complication of soft tissue filler treatments is granuloma formation. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons have a key role in the discussion around this delayed-onset complication. We present a case of trismus arising from intramasseteric granulomas following soft-tissue filler injections. Collaboration between surgeons and aesthetic medicine clinicians is crucial to preventing and managing complications from treatments which remain largely unregulated.

Foreign Body Granuloma After Polylactic Acid Filler Injection for Penile Girth Enhancement: Three Cases Report.

Penile girth enhancement is achieved using a variety of fillers, including autologous fat injection, silicone, collagen, hyaluronic acid, polylactic acid (PLA), polymethylmethacrylate, and dextran. While PLA has a good filling effect due to its bio-stimulatory properties, it may cause complications in a certain percentage of cases. We describe three patients who developed granulomatous reactions at least 2 months after receiving subcutaneous injections of PLA-based fillers. In two of the three cases, surgical removal of the infiltrate was necessary due to insufficient response to conservative

Antiperspirant-related zirconium and aluminum-containing granulomas; histopathology and in situ chemical analysis.

The potential adverse health effects of antiperspirant use are of interest to patients, primary care providers, dermatologists, and pathologists. In rare instances, antiperspirants containing aluminum-zirconium complexes have been associated with granulomatous dermatoses despite being deemed non-sensitizing in experiments. In this case study, we present a detailed examination of an axillary granuloma in a 28-year-old female who had been using an aluminum-zirconium-based antiperspirant for several years and presented with a left axillary nodule that was excised and analyzed using scanning elect

Review of the Adverse Effects Associated with Dermal Filler Treatments: Part I Nodules, Granuloma, and Migration.

The increase in the use of filler treatments within minimally invasive cosmetic surgery has correspondingly escalated the variety and frequency of associated side effects. Initially, unregulated procedures led to primary side effects such as infections, foreign body reactions, and granuloma formation. However, severe vascular complications like skin and tissue necrosis and blindness have emerged as recognized risks. Side effects from filler treatments can range from mild to life-threatening, including edema, pain, tenderness, numbness, bleeding, bruising, hematoma, redness, erythema, pigmentat
