Contamination and subsequent retention of foreign bodies within wound surfaces may negatively influence healing following maxillofacial injuries. Larger foreign bodies that produce embedded or impalement injuries of soft tissues are easily detected. However, smaller contaminants, such as sand, gravel, food particles, wood splinters, and glass fibers, may not be easily identified in the initial examination, and their remnants may remain within the injury site even after debridement. Pyogenic granuloma is a benign nodular lesion occurring most commonly on the gingiva of females during periods of elevated sex hormones such as puberty and pregnancy. Possible molecular mechanisms responsible for the appearance of pyogenic granuloma in this demographic have been suggested. Increased incidence of pyogenic granuloma in post menopausal women on hormone replacement therapy has not been reported. A 49-year-old woman with preexisting titanium implant placement in the left posterior mandible presented with complaint of food impaction and slight discomfort associated with the implant.

Rejuvenation of the aging hand has gained recent popularity. I report on 3 cases with complications related to the use of Artecoll (a permanent filler composed of polymethylmethacrylate) in soft tissue augmentation of the hand. All 3 patients had late-onset granuloma reactions, and the acute attacks were successfully treated with local injections of triamcinolone. However, recurrent reactions and hypopigmentation at the injection sites were noted.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous granulomas after a soft filler injection represent one of the worst scenarios for both patient and injector.
OBJECTIVES: To present clinical and histopathological features of granulomatous nodular reactions induced by a new alginate-based dermal filler (Novabel(®)), and put it in context of the process of injectable soft tissue fillers approval and promotion in the EU.

Cutaneous mercury (Hg) granuloma is a rare disorder caused by the traumatic introduction of elemental Hg into skin or soft tissue. Typically, cutaneous elemental Hg deposits cause limited systemic effects. Prominent systemic toxicity may, however, occasionally occur. Herein we report a case of cutaneous Hg granuloma resulting in chronic painful local wounds and systemic toxicity in the form of abdominal pain, visual disturbances, and psychiatric abnormalities. The related literature also is reviewed.

PURPOSE: Cosmetic injection of paraffin into cervicofacial tissues has been practiced in the past, especially in Asia, resulting in foreign body granuloma (paraffinoma). The purpose of this study was to describe the computed tomography (CT) findings of cervicofacial paraffinomas.

Intestinal obstruction resulting from an intramural foreign body-associated pyogranuloma was diagnosed in four dogs. Vomiting and weight loss were the main clinical signs. On physical examination, a mass in the abdomen was detected in three dogs. Abdominal radiography demonstrated the presence of soft tissue opacity in three of the dogs and gas-filled dilated intestinal loops in all four dogs.
