Effect of Inspiratory Plus Expiratory Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation on Diastasis Recti Abdominis in Postpartum.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of postpartum diastasis recti abdominis requires a comprehensive approach that considers the integrated function of the core muscle group, rather than focusing solely on the isolated stimulation of the rectus abdominis. PURPOSE: To investigate the effects of inspiratory plus expiratory neuromuscular electrical stimulation in patients with postpartum rectus abdominis separation. METHODS: Sixty patients diagnosed with postpartum Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA) were randomly assigned, using a random number table, to either a control group (n = 30) or an intervention gr

Abdominal wall contour and muscle changes after eTEP repair for small ventral hernias and diastasis: A quality improvement study.

BACKGROUND: The enhanced-view totally extraperitoneal (eTEP) Rives approach has gained popularity for ventral hernia repair because it aligns with modern principles of abdominal wall reconstruction. This study addresses unresolved questions related to changes in abdominal contour, rectus muscle behavior, and rehabilitation as part of an ongoing quality improvement initiative. METHODS: Forty-five patients underwent a standardized eTEP repair for small ventral hernias with diastasis recti. Structured core training and electrostimulation were implemented postoperatively for the last 15 patients,

Transcutaneous Radiofrequency Plus Therapeutic Exercise for the Treatment of Diastasis Recti Abdominis After a Twin Pregnancy: A Case Report.

Diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) is a common postpartum condition characterized by separation of the rectus abdominis muscles along the linea alba (LA). This condition can lead to significant physical and functional impairment. Conventional physiotherapy interventions, such as targeted abdominal exercises, have been reported to be effective in improving abdominal function. However, the transcutaneous radiofrequency diathermy (TRD) in the treatment of DRA has not yet been explored in this pathology. This case study reports on the treatment of a 29-year-old woman with a severe supraumbilical DRA

Interventions for Maintaining Pelvic Floor Health During Pregnancy: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Pregnancy is a unique life stage for women and is also an independent risk factor for pelvic floor disorders (PFD). Physiological changes during pregnancy can weaken pelvic floor support, potentially leading to common pelvic floor dysfunctions such as urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, chronic pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, rectus diastasis, and pelvic organ prolapse if left unaddressed. Early preventive interventions are recommended to reduce the overall incidence of PFD. This review aims to summarize various preventive health care strategies for pelvic floor

Long-term patient-reported outcomes after plication of rectus diastasis and simultaneous herniorrhaphy with HELP abdominoplasty.

PURPOSE: Midline hernias are common, and when associated with abdominal rectus diastasis, hernia guidelines recommend correction using mesh techniques. We present a retrospective series of patients with primary midline hernias and post-pregnancy moderate or severe abdominal rectus diastasis, who were operated using a comprehensive surgical approach without mesh. METHODS: We previously described the HELP (Hydrodissection-Assisted Extended Lateral Plication) abdominoplasty technique for rectus diastasis repair, with or without a midline hernia. In this study, patient records from 2013 to 2018 w
