Feasibility and Preliminary Efficacy of a Telerehabilitation Intervention for Diastasis Recti Abdominis-A Pilot Study.

Background: Diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) is a common postpartum condition typically managed with rehabilitation exercises. Given its high prevalence and postpartum barriers in attending in-person sessions, telerehabilitation may offer a feasible alternative. This small pilot study evaluates the preliminary effectiveness and user satisfaction of a 12-week telerehabilitation exercise program for women with postpartum DRA. Methods: Parous women with DRA participated in a 12-week trunk stabilization program, including synchronous and asynchronous sessions, from April 2024 to May 2025. The prima

[Rectus diastasis in men].

Rectus diastasis is frequently seen in men above 60 years with BMI > 25 kg/m2 and physical inactivity. Men with rectus diastasis often present with a bulge during sit-ups, but besides cosmetic complaints, other symptoms are rare. First choice of treatment is weight loss and physical training with focus on activating m. transversus abdominis. If there is a symptomatic ventral hernia concomitant with the diastasis, the best surgical approach is probably minimally invasive, where the hernia defect is closed, and a mesh is placed to cover the diastasis to prevent recurrences, as argued in this rev

Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in the Evaluation of the Rectus Abdominis.

The rectus abdominis (RA) muscle is a key muscle in the anterior abdominal wall, contributing to motion of trunk flexion, assisting with stabilization of the pelvis, and maintaining intra-abdominal pressure. Its integrity is essential for posture, respiration, and functional movement, and it is frequently implicated in clinical conditions such as abdominal wall hernias, rectus diastasis, muscle strains, and postoperative complications. Accurate evaluation of the RA is therefore critical for both diagnostic and rehabilitative purposes. Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) has emerged as a valuabl

Surgical treatment of rectus abdominis diastasis with concomitant abdominal wall hernias-perioperative outcomes of 11,658 cases from the Herniamed Registry.

INTRODUCTION: Due to the paucity of data, the only recommendation that can be given in the European Hernia Society guidelines is that, to characterize the patient cohort with rectus abdominis diastasis (RAD), a recognized classification system be used and that defects > 1 cm be repaired with a mesh technique. Otherwise, further studies are needed. METHODS: As from February 2022, it has been possible in the Herniamed Registry to also record patients with rectus abdominis diastasis (RAD) and concomitant ventral hernias separately from those with midline hernias without RAD. The classification s

Anthropometric evaluation of trunk parameters in chronic low back pain: a comparative study with age- and sex-matched controls.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain (LBP) is a complex and multifaceted condition influenced by factors such as obesity, skeletal deformities, and abdominal muscle dysfunction, though the exact occurrence and interrelationships of these factors remain unclear. The aim of this study is to investigate the anthropometric differences in the trunk between LBP sufferers and healthy controls, exploring the association with obesity and respiratory function. METHODS: This cross-sectional study evaluated 50 adult patients with chronic LBP and 50 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Anthropometric parameters inc

Reply to the Letter Regarding "Impact of Abdominoplasty with Diastasis Recti Correction on Female Sexual Function".

In response to Verma et al. we acknowledge the limitations of our study, including the absence of a control group and the modest sample size, both influenced by ethical and logistical constraints. Despite these factors, improvements in FSFI scores were statistically significant. We concur that larger multicenter studies with standardized measures are needed, and we appreciate this constructive exchange fostering further research on female sexual health after abdominoplasty.Level of Evidence V This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. The Presentation Patterns of Tessier 7 Clefts.

Given its rarity, there are few large-number studies regarding Tessier 7 clefts. A review and classification of 81 Tessier 7 patients who presented to our craniofacial center was performed. The most common Tessier 7 clefts were middle positioned, followed by agenetic, superiorly rotated, and inferiorly rotated clefts, respectively. A total of 77/81 patients had simple macrostomia and 4/81 patients had macrostomia with muscle diastasis. The most common associated anomalies were craniofacial microsomia, skin tags, and ear anomalies occurring in 80%, 71%, and 37% of patients, respectively. In thi

Mesh repair versus suture plication for rectus diastasis: the results of meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Surgical treatment is recommended for rectus diastasis (RD) patients with obvious symptoms and open method is more prevalent due to better surgical view and fewer operative difficulties compared with laparoscopic surgery. Mesh repair and suture plication are main open approaches of RD. The aim of this study was to evaluate results of RD patients undergoing mesh repair and suture plication. METHODS: We did a literature search of PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library to find studies comparing the results of mesh repair and suture plication for RD. Seroma, infection, recurrence and dif

Urinary Incontinence and Abdominal Diastasis: A Detailed Analysis and Surgical Outcome in 100 Patients Undergoing Abdominoplasty.

BACKGROUND: Urinary incontinence (UI), particularly stress urinary incontinence (SUI), is a prevalent condition that significantly impacts the quality of life, especially in women. Abdominal diastasis recti, a separation of the rectus abdominis muscles, have been increasingly recognized as a contributing factor to UI due to its impact on core stability and intra-abdominal pressure regulation. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the pathophysiological connection between diastasis recti and UI and to evaluate the effectiveness of diastasis correction during abdominoplasty in alleviating UI sy

Optimizing Abdominal Contours: A Novel Approach to Abdominoplasty.

BACKGROUND: Abdominal contour deformities are a common concern for individuals seeking body reshaping procedures, often driven by cosmetic dissatisfaction and functional impairments associated with skin laxity, muscle diastasis, and excess adiposity. Traditional abdominoplasty techniques have evolved to address these anatomical challenges, yet optimizing both aesthetic outcomes and minimizing surgical morbidity remains a central goal in plastic surgery. METHODS: This study presents a refined abdominoplasty technique that emphasizes precise preoperative planning, preservation of vascular integ

The relationship between transversus abdominis and rehabilitation exercises for diastasis recti abdominis: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Physiotherapy is the primary management approach for diastasis recti abdominis (DRA). Most published research has focused on intervention types, exercise effects, and their evaluation, with relatively little work on how to design exercise programmes that are grounded in biomechanical mechanisms. One reason for this gap may be that changes in trunk mechanics associated with pregnancy have been overlooked. This scoping review explores the biomechanical basis for rehabilitation exercises for DRA, with a particular focus on the transversus abdominis (TrA). METHODS: We searched PubMed,

Gait analysis in bladder exstrophy patients in late follow-up period.

BACKGROUND: Bladder exstrophy (BE) is a rare congenital anomaly associated with complex urogenital malformations and musculoskeletal sequelae. Despite surgical advances, the long-term biomechanical implications of reconstructive procedures, particularly on gait and pelvic kinematics, remain underexplored. Previous studies have reported inconsistent findings regarding hip motion, pelvic tilt, and gait symmetry, and the influence of osteotomy on locomotor function is not well defined. This study aimed to investigate long-term gait and pelvic biomechanics in patients with BE following childhood s
