This systematic review and network meta-analysis evaluated the comparative efficacy of various interventions for trigger finger relative to open surgery. A total of 24 randomized controlled trials involving 1,660 digits were included. In the short term, corticosteroid injection (SMD = -3.81; 95% CI: -6.09 to -1.53), hyaluronic acid injection (SMD = -3.13; 95% CI: -5.86 to -0.40), and percutaneous release combined with splint use (SMD = -3.07; 95% CI: -5.36 to -0.78) significantly reduced disease severity compared with open surgery. In the long term, corticosteroid injection (SMD = -4.49; 95% C

BACKGROUND: Aromatase inhibitors have been successfully employed in clinical practice for the treatment of breast cancer (BC); however, the accompanying tendon disorders has often been underestimated. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive empirical investigation and assess tendon disorders associated with third-generation aromatase inhibitors using data from the FDA's FAERS database. The goal was to provide a theoretical foundation for the rational application of these drugs in clinical settings.
METHODS: Reports of tendon disorders related to third-generation aromatase inhibitors were

INTRODUCTION: Trigger finger is a common tendinopathy with an increasing incidence in the aging and metabolically compromised populations. While corticosteroid infiltration (INF) remains the most frequently used conservative treatment, extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive alternative with potential long-term benefits.
METHODS: A prospective, non-randomized comparative study was conducted including 42 patients with Quinnell grade II-III trigger finger. Patients were allocated sequentially to treatment with either ESWT (n = 21) or INF (n = 21). Outcomes were assessed at ba

Molecular conformation in n-alk-1-ynes (CnA) is conventionally simplified to an all-planar structure. We report a comprehensive quantum chemical analysis revealing two near-isoenergetic rotamers at the acetylenic terminus: planar ( C s ) and skewed ( C 1 ). The high, symmetric rotational energy barrier ( ≈ 150 meV) arises from unique steric relief near the s p center coupled with electronic stabilization of C 1 . This creates a unique kinetic profile: a Quantum "Trigger Finger" ( α rotation) that enforces an ≈ 50 % : 50 % C s / C 1 ensemble, sharply contrasting

INTRODUCTION: The impact of sex hormones on connective tissue is controversial. Previous investigations found that female estrogen contraceptive therapy use may have simultaneous beneficial and detrimental musculoskeletal health effects, whereas males receiving androgen therapy had an increased Odds Ratio (OR) (3.6) of rotator cuff tears and higher Achilles Tendon injury rates. Furthermore, males receiving androgen therapy had an increased OR (26.7) for rotator cuff revision within a year of primary surgery.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our design involves an observational, retrospective study usin

BACKGROUND: Surgical disparities often stem from social determinants beyond underlying pathology. This study aims to examine how race, socioeconomic factors, and insurance status affect the management of trigger finger, one of the most common hand conditions treated in the United States.
METHODS: We retrospectively identified 2639 patients diagnosed with trigger finger using International Classification of Diseases and Current Procedural Terminology codes from the electronic medical record between 2015 and 2020. Descriptive statistics summarized demographic and clinical characteristics. Bivar

Background/Objectives: Percutaneous A1 pulley release effectively treats trigger finger, but the additional benefit of concomitant corticosteroid injection remains debated. Moreover, minimal clinically important difference (MCID), substantial clinical benefit (SCB), and patient acceptable symptom state (PASS) thresholds have not been well established for this procedure, limiting patient-centered interpretation of outcomes. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 80 patients (40 per group) who underwent percutaneous trigger finger release alone (PR) or with adjunctive triamcinolone in

Trigger finger is classically attributed to stenosing pathology at the first annular pulley, and the standard diagnostic and therapeutic approach is largely based on that model. However, some patients present with typical triggering symptoms despite normal distal pulley findings on physical examination and static ultrasonography. We report the case of a 25-year-old female cook with painful triggering of the left third and fourth digits. Examination demonstrated reproducible digital catching without focal tenderness over the involved A1 pulleys, whereas focal tenderness was present at the media

BACKGROUND: Trigger finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, is a common hand condition that occurs when a tendon or its sheath becomes swollen, inflamed, or degenerated, leading to pain, difficulty with movement, and sometimes a clicking sensation. Steroid injection is the first-line treatment, typically administered as a peritendinous or intrasheath injection. Subcutaneous injections are less commonly used; although they are simpler and generally less painful, they are infrequently performed due to limited supporting literature.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 79

BACKGROUND: Trigger finger causes pain and impaired hand function. Ultrasound and paraffin wax are commonly used but have cost and accessibility limitations; cassava wax may be a low-cost alternative, though its effectiveness remains unclear.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the immediate, short-term, and post-intervention effects of cassava wax immersion combined with ultrasound therapy on pain, pressure pain threshold, and upper extremity function in patients with trigger finger.
METHODS: In this single-blind, randomised controlled trial, 38 participants were randomly assigned to two groups ( n = 19

BACKGROUND: This systematic review aimed to evaluate prognostic factors associated with outcomes following needling and shockwave therapy (SWT) for RCCT rotator cuff calcific tendinitis (RCCT).
METHODS: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CENTRAL databases were searched for studies on prognostic factors in RCCT treated with needling or SWT that included multivariable analyses. The risk of bias was assessed using the Quality in Prognosis Studies tool, and the quality of each prognostic factor was evaluated using a modified Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) framework.

INTRODUCTION: Hand and upper extremity surgery is increasingly performed in ambulatory settings, placing greater responsibility on patients to manage their postoperative recovery. While the readability of patient education materials has been studied, the formats used and their impact on postoperative outcomes have not been comprehensively synthesized.
METHODS: A literature search of PubMed and Web of Science was conducted for eligible studies published between 2015 and 2025 that included patients undergoing or being considered for upper extremity surgery and who received an educational interv

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: In 2013, the first clinical practice guideline for subacromial pain syndrome (SAPS) was developed in the Netherlands to support healthcare professionals. SAPS refers to non-traumatic, non-rheumatologic shoulder complaints that are particularly painful during arm elevation. It includes conditions such as supraspinatus tendinosis, calcific tendinitis, and degenerative supraspinatus tears. Over 50,000 patients annually consult orthopedic surgeons for these issues. In response to new evidence and clinical needs, an updated guideline was developed. Part 1 addresses preventio

PURPOSE: Trigger finger is typically managed with corticosteroid injections followed by surgical release if injections fail. Office-based ultrasound-guided percutaneous A1 pulley release (USGPR) has emerged as a contemporary alternative that provides definitive surgical treatment in office settings, potentially eliminating both the recurrence risk of injections and the facility costs of traditional surgery. However, USGPR device costs and cost-effectiveness remain uncertain. Prior cost-effectiveness analyses do not include USGPR as a comparator and use reimbursement data from 2016 and earlier

INTRODUCTION: Calcific tendinitis is an uncommon disorder characterized by the deposition of calcium hydroxyapatite crystals in tendons, primarily affecting the rotator cuff and rarely involving the elbow. Misdiagnosis as lateral epicondylitis can lead to delayed management and persistent symptoms.
CASE REPORT: We report a rare case of calcific tendinitis in a 46-year-old female presenting with refractory lateral elbow pain, initially misdiagnosed as lateral epicondylitis. Imaging confirmed calcific deposits within the lateral collateral ligament. Given the chronicity of symptoms and failure

BACKGROUND: Smooth flexor tendon gliding depends on the structural harmony between the flexor tendon and its sheath. Because tendon dimensions and joint kinematics differ among digits, gliding dynamics may also differ, but in vivo assessment during active motion remains limited. The purpose of this study was to clarify whether the acoustic characteristics of flexor tendon gliding sounds at the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint differ among the index, middle, and ring fingers.
METHODS: Gliding sounds were recorded from 40 hands of 20 healthy volunteers using a digital stethoscope placed at the p
