INTRODUCTION: Increasingly detailed investigation confirms that the best management of those with non-traumatic wrist disorders (NTWD) remains elusive, and considerable potential for improvements to care exists. This study aimed to use a modified virtual nominal group technique (vNGT) to facilitate clinician stakeholder discussions to create consensus statements and recommend priorities for future improvements in the management of NTWD in the UK.
METHODS: We created knowledge-gap topic areas and developed statements to reflect these. Preliminary ranking, silent reflection and idea generation

BACKGROUND: De Quervain's tenosynovitis is a common cause of radial wrist pain, with corticosteroid injections providing excellent relief. Ultrasound guidance may improve anatomic accuracy and symptom resolution. This study investigates the benefits of ultrasound-guidance and its effects on reintervention-free survival time.
METHODS: Patients at a single academic institution between 2014 and 2025 with de Quervain's tenosynovitis receiving at least one corticosteroid injection were included. Patients undergoing traditional and ultrasound-guided injections were propensity score matched. Primary

BACKGROUND: Stenosing tenosynovitis is a common chronic tendon disease that seriously affects daily life and working ability. However, its treatment is very challenging and requires more effective treatment methods. A large number of clinical studies have shown that extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) may relieve the symptoms of stenosing tenosynovitis, but there are no published reviews or meta-analyses specifically and comprehensively evaluating its efficacy for this disease. Therefore, through conducting a meta-analysis, this study systematically evaluated the therapeutic effect of ESW

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to assess the impact of intracompartmental septation in the first dorsal extensor compartment on nonsurgical treatment of de Quervain's disease.
METHODS: Two hundred thirty-four wrists of 213 patients followed for more than 1 year were retrospectively reviewed on their final treatment outcomes. We compared patients' data at their initial visit including septal condition in the first dorsal extensor compartment assessed using ultrasound between 2 groups divided according to the outcomes. These groups were made based on whether they had surgery or not, and if patien

BACKGROUND: De Quervain’s tenosynovitis (DQT) is an inflammatory condition of the first dorsal compartment of the wrist that causes pain and impaired thumb function. High-power laser therapy (HPLT) has been proposed as a non-invasive modality for musculoskeletal pain management; however, evidence supporting its effectiveness in DQT remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of 1064-nm HPLT combined with thumb spica splinting in reducing pain and improving hand function in patients with DQT. DESIGN: A randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled clinical trial. METHODS: Twenty

Trapeziometacarpal (TMC) arthroplasty is a widely accepted treatment for osteoarthritis of the TMC joint. However, one potential complication is De Quervain's tenosynovitis and its cause post-arthroplasty remains unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether thumb lengthening, as measured by the Scaphometacarpal Index (SMI), is associated with the incidence of De Quervain's tenosynovitis following TMC arthroplasty. A retrospective analysis was conducted of 114 TMC arthroplasties performed between 2015 and 2022. Thumb lengthening was quantified using pre- and postoperative radiographs.

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) acts as an acoustic wave via momentum transfer and mechanotransduction in a plethora of regenerative ways. Scaphoid non-unions benefit from high-energetic focused ESWT. In lunate necrosis aka Morbus Kienböck focused high-energetic ESWT can reduce pain and improve MRI. In CMC 1 osteoarthritis focused ESWT appears to be clinically equal to intraarticular ultrasound-guided hyaluronic acid injection with more pronounced effects 6 months after therapy in the ESWT group. Tendinopathies of the hand can be treated with both, radial and focused ESWT, especially i

Background and Clinical Significance: This case highlights the management of chronic extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) tenosynovitis in a patient exposed to non-traditional wrist-loading activities. Exercise therapy rehabilitation is well established in shoulder and knee tendinopathies, although it remains less well described for wrist tendinopathies beyond De Quervain's disease. Moreover, the patient's active engagement in non-traditional, wrist-intensive sports such as handstands, slacklining, and yoga may have contributed to the development and persistence of chronic extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU)

Background/Objectives: The superficial radial nerve (SRN) is highly susceptible to iatrogenic injury during wrist injection procedures. This study aimed to identify the anatomical trajectory of the SRN using high-resolution ultrasonography and to establish a reliable "safe zone" for wrist extensor compartment injections. Methods: Fifty-eight forearms from 29 healthy volunteers (15 males, 14 females) were evaluated. Four anatomical levels were defined: the proximal and distal ends of the extensor compartment I-II intersection area (Levels A and B), and the proximal and distal points of SRN cros

De-Quervain's tenosynovitis is a painful condition characterized by wrist pain and swelling at the radial styloid process due to inflammation and thickening of the tendon sheath of the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis. Conventional treatment includes rest, analgesics, corticosteroid injections, and surgical release. In Ayurveda, this condition is correlated with Snayugata Vata, where Agnikarma (therapeutic heat) is recommended. A 55-year-old female presented with severe left wrist pain, swelling and difficulty in performing household work for 20 days. Finkelstein's test re

The brachioradialis (BR) muscle is a long, large, fusiform muscle on the lateral side of the forearm. It originates from the lateral distal humerus and inserts to the base of the styloid process of the radius. The function of the BR muscle is to flex the elbow, especially with the hand in a neutral position, to pronate and supinate the forearm, and to support wrist extension, especially gripping or picking up something. BR muscle pain arises from repetitive overuse, sudden overloading, and direct blow. Common painful daily activities include putting a cup back down after drinking, opening door

BACKGROUND: Intralesional corticosteroid injections are widely used for treating various inflammatory and musculoskeletal conditions. While generally safe, they can cause adverse effects, including hypopigmentation, which may have psychosocial implications for affected patients.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report two cases of hypopigmentation following intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injections. The first case involves a 65-year-old man who developed a well- defined hypopigmented patch on the dorsum of his right hand following treatment for De Quervain's tenosynovitis. The second case describ

In the last 15 years, the US and UK have fought two major wars in the Persian Gulf region. Controversy has arisen over the nature and causes of health problems among military veterans of these two wars. Toxic exposures have been hypothesised to cause the majority of the long-term health problems experienced by veterans of the 1991 Gulf War. The assessment of these toxic exposures and the resolution of controversy about their health effects provide a unique case study for understanding how toxicological disputes are settled in the US. Neither clinical examination of ill war veterans nor scienti

INTRODUCTION: This study compares outcomes of open vs. single-portal endoscopic release in De Quervain's disease, focusing on functional results and complications.
METHODS: Forty-four patients diagnosed with De Quervain's syndrome and symptoms persisting longer than 6 months were included. All underwent surgical treatment and were followed for a mean of 41 months (range, 6-120). Patients were divided into two groups based on the surgical method: open (n = 15) and endoscopic (n = 29). Demographic data, preoperative evaluations and hand dominance were recorded. Postoperative functional outcomes

This protocol describes the standardized procedure for using a wearable wrist moxibustion device in patients with radial styloid stenosing tenosynovitis. The study is designed as a small-sample, exploratory randomized controlled trial. Participants meeting the diagnostic criteria for radial styloid stenosing tenosynovitis are enrolled and randomly allocated in a 1:1 ratio to either the control group receiving oral celecoxib capsules or the intervention group receiving the wearable wrist moxibustion device. The primary outcome measure is the change in pain intensity, assessed using the visual a

Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK-US) has evolved from a diagnostic tool into a key modality for guiding minimally invasive interventions across the musculoskeletal system. Its real-time imaging, portability, and absence of ionizing radiation make it a cost-effective and safe alternative to fluoroscopy and CT for numerous procedures, including biopsies, aspirations, injections, and percutaneous releases. Recent technological advances in ultrasound, including high-frequency probes, microvascular imaging, needle-tracking systems, and robotic probe steering, have improved precision and expanded its

Background and Objectives: De Quervain tenosynovitis (DQT) is a stenosing overuse condition of the synovial sheath of the first extensor compartment of the wrist. Open surgical release of the first dorsal compartment remains a standard intervention for DQT when conservative treatments fail. This systematic review evaluated the comparative efficacy of transverse versus longitudinal skin incisions for open release of the first dorsal compartment in DQT. Materials and Methods: Four studies with 259 patients were included in the review. Data from 17 patients were unavailable due to loss to follow-

Background: Thumb pain frequently arises from multiple conditions-de Quervain's tenosynovitis, carpometacarpal (CMC) osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, intersection syndrome, and myofascial pain syndrome-that often coexist yet are traditionally managed as separate entities. Fascial abnormalities, including hyaluronic acid-related densification and impaired interlayer gliding, have been proposed to constitute a shared pathological substrate underlying these conditions. Ultrasound-guided fascia hydrorelease (US-FHR) targeting fascial pathology has been used clinically for thumb-wrist pain;
